Yeah, I fulfilled my last graduation requirements last semester. I’m definitely in a weird space trying to remind myself I have to work ahead so I can actually enjoy my interviews and visit days!
Hi all! I applied to a bunch of PhD programs this fall (and one school that requires you to complete their masters before going on to the doctoral level *eyeroll*). I'm at the point in the process where I'm questioning if materials were actually any good and am so very much enjoying the waiting. Plus, it's super hard to be motivated for my last semester when I'm so focused on what comes next. Has anyone else had this experience?
I'm at an undergrad institution that actually still hoods us. If you have a family member who's an alum they can hood you, other wise it's a faculty member/administrator. We're small (~450/class) so we do the entire class, alphabetically, and they read your name, major, honors status (for theses), and and laudes you may have earned. I'm a W so I'll be bringing up the rear in May!
It's kind of hard to believe it's basically February at this point... I'm getting antsy about UT. Anticipating rejection from Penn State and UNC since they've been sending out acceptances already...
In describing this process to my friends who didn't apply, I've found the easiest analogy is dating apps. We swiped right on all of these schools a month ago. Some of them have left us on read (no news yet), some have swiped left (rejection), some have matched with us (accepted), some have super liked us (accepted with bonus fellowship/funding), and some have started a conversation (interviews).
I hope my poor performance history on dating apps is not indicative of how this process will end up...
I’m going to try and make it but I might have a conflict with the Saturday since I’ve got some pre-existing commitments. I’m waiting on Northwestern (and a bunch of other schools because I was very nervous going into this process). I look forward to meeting you!
That’s such a mood! I will say I’m a little less stressed since I know there’s a plan after graduation, but the uncertainty of knowing exactly where I’ll be this time next year is killing me.
Are you planning on going to the OSU visit day?
Hey all! New here (tried to stay away in worries of jinxing myself) but now that I have an offer in hand I'm happy to chime in!
I'm one of the lucky Ohio State acceptances and I have an interview at Rice (over Valentines Day! How romantic!) Just got a rejection from Madison as well, @markhame! It was definitely one of the nicer rejections I've received!
Still waiting on 11 other schools. I was very freaked going into applications and may have over submitted... Ah well!
