  1. Anyone still waiting on Penn State? Anyone heard anything at all for the Oxford MPhil in Socy and Demography? They're the only ones I'm still waiting for before I make my decision!
  2. I’m still waiting on Penn State, UPenn, and UNC for anything definitive. UChicago hasn’t reached out, but I hear that’s normal for rejections. And I’m also waiting on Oxford which hasn’t released anything at all. So, 5/14 programs still to go...
  3. Can confirm OSU acceptances went out. I know some rejections did to. Not sure about a waitlist, but OSU's admitted students day is Friday so I'm guessing they've reached out to everyone already about that?
  4. I emailed to ask since I have a week of spring break and could go for a visit then, but wanted to know if I need to hold the time. I'll let you know what they say. With Penn State, according to the results board acceptances were released in batches last year. I live ever hopeful that it's the same this year.
  5. Anyone still waiting on UPenn and Penn State? I feel like I've been ghosted by all of Pennsylvania!
  6. I am also in this boat! From what I hear, they've only rejected/accepted people that they interviewed. Historically they wait to reject the rest of us until later in March. I'm hoping that's not the case, but preparing as if it is. Set expectations low and you'll be pleasantly surprised, right?
  7. Switching topics slightly, is anyone still waiting to hear from Penn State? I'm getting antsy.
  8. Yeah. Everyone’s like “there’s still a chance!” For the schools that haven’t notified me, but I’m also realistic that most of those schools have already accepted who they’re going to accept. I’m waiting on 6. Only one of which hasn’t released ANY decisions yet.
  9. Landed two rejections from sought after programs today. A bit heartbroken but trying to soldier on.
  10. Currently flopping around aimlessly because I still haven't heard from Columbia. GAH.
  11. Another quiet Friday in February. Guess it’s time to enjoy the weekend and put this out of my mind for a few days.
  12. I still haven't heard anything from Columbia. Assuming bad news there. I've only heard final decisions from 4/14 schools. I just want the waiting to be over!
  13. Woke up to a Duke rejection. What a lovely way to start the day!
  14. That's always a really exciting stage! Moving from theory to action is a nice boost for the academic ego And it's so important to do so! I truly believe we have a duty to work with and draw attention to historically overlooked populations.
  15. Has anyone else been watching their phone obsessively? I wish everything was via email! I'm worried I won't be coherent over the phone because I'll be too excited!
  16. Woohoo! Social sciences! I have a MacBook Air from 2015 that I loooooooove and has done well by me. It was very much worth the investment since I've had so few issues with it. In addition, because I got Apple Care, the only issue I did have was completely covered. I chose to custom build mine through Apple's website which was great because it has the specs I wanted without upcharging me for thinks I didn't want. If you go this route, make sure to future proof your machine by bumping up processor and RAM. I always say your Hard Drive space can stay fairly small since we have external drives that are huge for much less money. Your internal hard drive should be large enough to house your media and essential docs but probably not much else. Soon, I'll probably need to get a PC solely to run ArcMap on (*eyeroll*) for grad school, but I'm not going to shell out beaucoup bucks for that. In terms of making your choice, at least 8 GB of RAM, solid state or fusion drive (preferably solid). Make a list of things you want the computer to do/have and what you don't want. Take into account size and weight and longevity. Then, see if you can test any of the computers you're considering. Stop by a best buy or tech store to give them a run for their money. Leave the store before buying and then once you've made a choice you can place your order with no hesitations.
  17. I've got a spreadsheet going where I'm tracking everything. It's not pretty... Probs getting a reject from Chicago as well (not a surprise) since they've sent out interviews.
  18. That's been my mentality as well. I knew it was coming for Austin and I'm expecting rejects from UNC and PSU too
  19. Since a bunch of us are just sitting here twiddling our thumbs, I thought it might be fun to shift the conversation to something a little more fun! If you're currently researching or hope to start soon, what excites you about your work? For me, I just found a HUGE data set that I'm really thrilled to run through my analysis! On a larger scale, I enjoy that my research may have practical applications for the people I care about! ETA: As an aside, this thread does have the ulterior motive of reminding me that the waiting is worth it and that the work can be fulfilling!
  20. Following because I'm in the same boat. I've got a lot of "in reviews" that are contributing to the sinking pit that is forming in my stomach.
  21. I feel like my Feb is going to go poorly since people heard acceptances from schools I applied to weeks ago and I heard... crickets...
  22. Worries: I recently reread my personal statement and it was a lot more disjointed than I remember it being. Also, at the start of the process I got conflicting information about reaching out to potential advisors. Now I fear that my inaction on that front has eliminated my chances. I fear my GPA worked against me because I was a stupid freshman who once took premed classes. Excitement: I have one offer and another interview. I'm super excited about both! It's nice to know that I definitely have a plan for next year no matter what happens going forward.
  23. Had a heart attack when a call came in during class today. Almost stepped out to take it but rationalized that I could call back after class. Finally listened to the voicemail and it was just the fake IRS telling me I owed California money... I feel like my anxiety is going to be at an all time high until 5pm today.
