  1. I am hoping to use this thread to bring aspiring political theorists together to discuss admissions results from 2019.
  2. My honest feeling is that you would be better off going to UBC over Boulder. I do see that your interests seem to be very well aligned with the two theorists at Boulder, but the PT program there is very small and the political science program itself is not great. A degree from UBC will also open a career trajectory for you that simply would not be available to you after Boulder, and I think I read that you saw yourself living in Canada in the future, which seems to be another reason to go to UBC. If you were to choose according to your interests, it seems to me that Washington and John Hopkins would be good options for you, but I'm not sure if Brown or UPenn align with your interests well. At least Brown has a more analytic political theory track, and even if you would be able to find someone who would be willing to engage in a more critical approach I do not think your work would fit well with the political theory program overall. For full disclosure, I applied to Brown theory myself this year and have not heard from them either. I would keep in mind that representatives of lower ranked/weaker programs are more likely to reach out to you trying to convince you to come there - especially if you are an overqualified candidate. If you go to visit Boulder make sure you speak to several first year theorists about their experience. And if you do end up going to Boulder make sure you at least negotiate a competitive stipend based upon your other offers. If I was in your shoes I would definitely keep my fingers crossed for Washington and John Hopkins. I get the feeling that UCLA would have been a good option for your interests too, but I take it you did not apply there. These are just my views, and I do not actually know much about the theory program at UBC although I do know the department overall is excellent.
  3. Is Brown just completely off the rails?
  4. Also do you mind sharing which programs you're waiting for?
  5. Can you say a bit about what you're interested in within political theory? Boulder may be for you, but the political theory program is a bit narrow
  6. FYI: So far none of this has come true
  7. where might you go instead?
  8. Just wanted to add my interpretation of a few still unresolved programs. The bulk of admission decisions from Brown came out in 2017 and 2018 on February 13th-15th and waitlists appear to be notified later. So there is at least a chance that Brown applicants will hear by the end of this week. UC Davis admits are probably all out by now (again judging from previous years' patterns), but there is a chance that waitlists still need to be notified. While it is not certain, it looks like rejections have not been sent out yet from UNC. The only available rejection in 2018 was sent out on February 15th and if they stick to this pattern, people will be rejected by Friday of this week. UNC appears to waitlist quite a few applicants and these are typically notified the week (or two or three) after rejections are sent out - so sometime next week the earliest. Crossing fingers that at least some of these predictions are true.
  9. Oh sorry
  10. Congrats on Boston College?
  11. What do you guys think it means if you have not yet heard anything from UNC or Brown at this point (theory)? Is that a rejection you think?
  12. If these are your options, I would advise you to go to Wisconsin and not Colorado
  13. Does anyone know if notifications have gone out to those rejected from UNC?
  14. Totally agree! Goertz at Notre Dame is great too
  15. As far as I can tell, we have seen no UCSD and no UNC theory admits in these forums. Is theory in general slow on these things?
  16. What's your subfield if I may ask?
  17. I emailed them and they sent me a response 8 days later
  18. I got an email after 8 days from the email address listed when you login to your application and click 'view application' which take you to the application status. Hope that makes snese
  19. They told me they would send out notifications by late this week (guessing Friday) or early the next (guessing Monday)
  20. I'm waitlisted at two competitive programs currently, rejected from none and with 5 pending. So no, not yet - but hoping very much
  21. Congratulations! did not apply there myself
  22. Have any of the recent accepts been for theory?
  23. Mine said the same and was equally short
  24. You are assuming that when I use the words he or him that I am referring to a male.
  25. Well, I disagree with you. I am not pressuring or guilting anyone into anything, but simply encouraging a very worthy UNC admit to chose the best option available to him (it is clear that he agrees that UNC is the best option by reading his original post). The post that I linked to my original post explains the upside of withdrawing, and I clearly made my suggestion in good faith (while celebrating his acceptance) because I feel it is the respectable thing to do (and the admit appears to agree with this).
