  1. Sorry I disappeared to Morocco with no WiFi right after this happened haha. Since my next best offer was a full ride in a high cost of living city (LA) I went with Austin!
  2. Updating with final stipend info!
  3. second update for future reference - about 3 days before deadline I got bumped up to full ride and 43,248 stipend (!!!!). Mind absolutely blown. Didn't negotiate them at all. The waiting game worked out unintentionally I guess... So grateful
  4. Thanks! And cool- public transport is something I'm definitelyworried about. Also, the city and program being very whiteworries me too, as I didn't get a chance to visit. 31k split over two years!
  5. yeah they said full ride is the highest offer USC does, which blows. they sent me a long list of external fellowships but i'm betting they would only be helpful for year 2
  6. do most people come in with savings, or have parents help them out? I'm a first gen low income background so I'm a little freaked out with the idea of covering 45,000 estimated living expenses for two years at USC, and not sure how others do it or just whip out the loans..
  7. Hi, they offered me full tuition and 19k stipend originally. I'm not too sure why they increased as I didn't ask as it was a generous offer and it seemed tone deaf to ask for more!
  8. Can someone gut-check if I’m being stupid? in short - full ride USC versus full ride LBJ and a 31k stipend. 31,000 stipend feels insane to me, and they seem to want me I think, as they emailed me out of the blue to add 11k to my originally generous stipend. As a Latina New Yorker I am nervous of never having visited Austin. And I loved USC’s focus on Latinos and immigration.... I should take the stipend no?
  9. Just for future records - Austin unprovoked emailed me this Saturday to offer me an increase in stipend, bumping me up to full tuition and 31k stipend
  10. Any update on USC deferring by any chance?
  11. no advice but for future applicants, i emailed to reconsider in a very brief email and got bumped an extra 5k a year.
  12. did anyone get an "update" to their letter? so far nothing seems different except that now it has confetti scrolling down the screen lol
  13. Do you know of the logistics of deferring? Or deferring while keeping funding? I’m also debating USC vs LBJ
  14. Anyone who got into USC MPP could let me know when the admitted students dates are? I think I'm missing info by email or letter!
  15. Got in with 10k stipend non renewable. So stingy! Glad the wait is over though
  16. Nope just sending good energy into the world in hopes for an answer tonight
  17. In with 25k a year. Too low for me to attend sadly. The tuition is so high! Somehow the "total cost of attendance plus fees" per year is 62k when multiplying the credit hour cost by 24 is 56k.
  18. Program Applied To: (MPA, MPP, IR, etc.): MPP Schools Applied To: USC Price, UT Austin LBJ, Berkeley Goldman, Georgetown McCourt, GWU Trachtenberg Schools Admitted To: USC Price (full tuition), Austin LBJ (full tuition + 19k stipend), Georgetown McCourt (25k renewable), GWU Trachtenberg (22k renewable) Schools Rejected From: None yet Still Waiting: Berkeley Undergraduate institution: Swarthmore College Undergraduate GPA: 3.77/4.0 Undergraduate Major: Sociology/Anthropology & Educational Studies GRE Quantitative Score: 155 GRE Verbal Score: 169 GRE AW Score: 5.5 Years Out of Undergrad (if applicable): 2.5 years Years of Work Experience: 2.5 years Describe Relevant Work Experience: 2 years in child welfare research Strength of SOP (be honest, describe the process, etc): . Writing is a strength of mine so I was fairly confident even though I started about 2 weeks ahead of time. I linked my background (low income Latina) to my work experience (child welfare) to my future goals (ensuring immigrant children, particularly those going through systems, are supported and safe). I had one reviewer, a friend in an MPP program. I think it turned out great Strength of LOR's (be honest, describe the process, etc): I assume at least 2 were very strong and one could be good or very strong as well. Used a prof who I worked with a lot back in the day, my old work supervisor who really believed in me and had just finished a masters in policy, and a higher-ranking colleague at my work who was recently promoted to "director of policy provided each of them my transcripts, resumes, and a "cheat sheet" of schools I was applying to with deadlines. Other: I was very worried because I've never really taken an econ, stats, or policy/politics course in college, and my quant score was only about 50th something percentile. I also add well to the diversity mix - low income, first gen, immigrant latina
  19. ugh does anyone know if a LOR was submitted a few days after Jan 15, we don't get the priority deadline? that would be such a bummer. mine says the app was submitted Jan 22 but every other part was in by Jan 15..
  20. doing the lord's work ? i'm going to flip out today then, especially being 6 hours ahead I'm going to be out drinking at midnight and spamming my email refresh
  21. I totally agree - was not expecting such a generous offer and it's hard to turn down..
  22. fingers crossed were decisions released last year around the time of end of this week?
