  1. Have you compared the classes? I think when you look at the program's offerings you'll see the distinct differences. https://calendar.carleton.ca/grad/gradprograms/publicadministration/#courseinventory https://calendar.carleton.ca/grad/gradprograms/internationalaffairs/#courseinventory
  2. Honestly no idea, but I can't imagine it's anything good.. Logically, the school you want wouldn't rescind the offer even if the school you rejected tells them (but even then, how would they know). But, I can also imagine that the world of IR/poli sci is quite small, and you would probably never get an admission to that school again (phd, etc), but that's just my guess. I wonder how often this happens? I know a close friend of mine had an offer to a med school in the states and had to pay a deposit of a few grand, but said if she gets accepted to the top choice in Canada she would rescind and come here instead. She asked about the deposit, and that would be non-refundable. She told me it's not THAT uncommon in the med school world, but idk if that converts to the world of IR
  3. Trust me, you're preaching to the choir. I think it's just the idea of buyer's remorse, or 'the grass is greener on the other side' mindset. I'm sure at a certain level the school doesn't as much as other factors. I remember when I was applying to undergrad and I was debating between my Schulich, Queen's, and Ivey AEO offers and thinking what I chose would dictate my life. I ended up choosing political science instead after visiting those schools and just not feeling it, but I'm sure you can imagine my friends' reaction, and my parents' at the time. Everything always works out in the end, eh?
  4. Maybe that's the case. I don't believe the people I know who chose Munk last year (or the people who were wanting it this year) want to work for the government. I think they just want an international type of job. It's the Master of Political Management program. Looked at some of the people who graduated from the program and it piqued my interests, then saw some of the classes (political marketing, government relations, strategic communication, etc) and figured in a worse case scenario, it would still give me some breadth of knowledge if/when I pursue either Munk or NPSIA next year. Is it just me or was choosing an undergrad so much easier to do than a masters? ?
  5. This was early in first term, so I forgot most of the conversations, but the gist of it it was the location, and I think the general perception (whether it's correct or not), is that NPSIA is kind of fading in glory compared to Munk. I remember all my friends were talking about job prospects out of masters, and they were saying how its getting harder to get those top tier jobs from NPSIA than before (at least compared to Munk). idk if that's the case, but one of my profs who graduated from an ivy league school in the states told me to choose Munk... but for whatever it's worth, I was still on the fence with NSPIA and Munk, but I got a full ride to another program at Carleton so regardless of if I get admitted to either I'd be deferring/rejecting them until next year. Looking back at the people I knew from my school, I think a fair bit chose Munk; maybe my school is biased towards Munk (I don't go to U of T, nor do I live in Toronto btw) idk
  6. Just basing it off talking to my friends who applied this year; most of them said they would be accepting Munk over NPSIA. So I wouldn't be surprised if they had more people this year, however idk if that would be their reason; they could have still done rolling, or first and second round. Also considering every school I applied to had a round around Feb 27 except Munk, this means that everyone has an offer that expires mid-March. If people are dead set on Munk, imagine how many people will rescind their acceptances to NPSIA, SIDGS, etc.
  7. I was asking Munk last week so I could accept my other offers that have a deadline in Mid-March. Munk told me they would be sending in late-March early-April.
  8. Wow, kinda getting regrets for not doing my undergrad near Ottawa now. Definitely reaching out!
  9. Damn! That's stellar. As someone who's not in Ottawa for undergrad, when people say govt work experience, what kind of things are they talking about? What kind of of govt jobs does an undergrad with no masters get? Would people need connections to get them? Or are they actually posted places?
  10. Little surprised NPSIA hasn't gotten back yet. Last year they sent acceptances out last Friday. Maybe they had a more competitive pool this time?
  11. Got a verbal offer of admission a few days ago from the director of Carleton's MPM program. It was my second choice to NPSIA, so regardless looks like i'm going to Carleton. Hoping the NPSIA gods are on my side next week when their offers get sent out.
