No, I wasn’t. It was a rather bizarre email, and I didn’t get an official offer. Not sure about a timeline but they seemed to indicate that they’d have the final funding decisions in the next couple of weeks.

Got an email from Indiana Univ. HPS saying that their admissions process is moving slowly, that I am one of their top applicants, and that they are trying to work out funding details. They asked if I am still interested in the program. I plan on telling them that, while I appreciate their generosity, I have already received four offers elsewhere...and so I would rather withdraw the app and give someone else a shot at a funded offer there.
-
I didn’t get anything from them either. It’s either (1) because I’m not the best fit for them and/or (2) because of how I responded to some of the questions on the application...damn that app was weird. I refused to answer the question about how I dressed and just said it was an inappropriate question. Great school, so still disappointing.

Ugh, I’m sorry to hear that!

They sent the official letter with the funding details; I got it yesterday afternoon and it was a fairly standard-looking package.
-
That would be me and, no, they haven’t given me any details on funding yet.

Everyone who attended the UC Irvine LPS interview weekend (myself included) has been unofficially accepted via email.
-
Accepted to Carnegie Mellon.

Lol I am not quite sure what GradCafe expects us to put under ‘Program,’ either, so I just wrote my AOI. And yes, I’m excited about this acceptance.

Accepted at Duke with a generous funding package.
-
Same! Feel free to send me a DM if you’d like.

I’m still waiting on Duke. No email or update to the portal. Anyone else? Also, I’m waitlisted at ASU.

I’ve received confirmation that this event is more of a meet-and-greet, and any questions asked will just be to get to know us. We don’t need to show up expecting to get grilled.... Also, they are expecting about ten students to show at this event, and they typically enroll about 8 a year.
-
Same, and I have all of the same questions. Although I’ve heard (from a very reliable source) that the interview invitation is more or less an acceptance, and that the interviews are just mandated by the university as part of the applicant screening process. Will update the thread if/when I hear more.

I’m sorry to hear that! Hope you get some good news soon.

Does an Academia.edu page make any difference?
Eheydon replied to Coconuts&Chloroform's topic in Philosophy
Just got a notification from academia.edu that someone googled for my profile, in a town near one of the schools I applied to. So yes, they are looking. -
In at Univ. Minnesota.

I mean, my sleep/diet was already messed up from staying up late to submit all these applications, but....

For me, the decision wasn’t really solidified until the fall of my 4th year. (I ended up switching to an undergrad philosophy track to graduate in five years, instead of four.) At the time, I was pursuing a science degree in the biology dept. at my university. I loved it but really couldn’t see a future in it...especially because, around that time, things started getting tense with my lab advisor (still not sure why, as I worked very hard for him), and I knew that he would never write me a decent letter of rec allowing me to get a PhD in biology. I was simultaneously working with [big name philosophy prof] on a philosophy project that required my scientific background. I was getting good grades in the philosophy stuff, and I found it a lot more enjoyable. So I decided to switch career paths. Of course, this led to a lot of upheaval in terms of paperwork and graduation, as I transferred out of the college of science and into the college of arts and letters four days before I was supposed to graduate from the college of science. It was a radical decision, yes, but I have exactly zero regrets.

I would like to formally introduce myself as the ‘person on FB.’ Hello!

I know that for me, taking the GRE was very very stressful due to a psychological disability (ptsd) beyond my control. I scored well on verbal, but only 160 on math because during one section the test proctor literally kept yelling at me and triggering me...also I neglected to practice with the stupid four-function calculator, which ended up wasting me a lot of time. I’ll try to re-test, but not sure if I’ll be granted disability accommodations this time, as the paperwork process takes up to three months! ETS claims that they accommodate disabled test-takers but they really don’t. If they won’t process the paperwork in time, I’ll be stuck re-taking without accommodations. Sigh. But according to ETS this is my equal treatment under the law. So yes, while I think GRE scores can be a good measure of intelligence, they are also costly and not too accessible for lots of people, including people with disabilities. I’d like to see more schools make them optional.

I saw the same thing, and I am wondering if perhaps many of the initially accepted turned down the offer (prompting an extension of the waitlist)? edit: typing in class

Waitlisted at UVA. Seems like it must be a pretty long waitlist? At least ten, maybe twelve of us? Nevertheless, my Starbucks offer still stands.

I had the same issue and I Googled it. Apparently it’s a common problem with their system. I called the graduate admissions office because I was really stressed out about it, and the lady was very nice and sent me a screenshot of what she saw on her end (that my app was “complete” and they had received everything).

I think we’ve talked about this before ? All this stress + lack of sleep + flu (or whatever this terrible thing I’ve come down with is) is really not a good combination for me right now. If I may ask, what is your AOI, and what type of program (bachelors, masters) are you applying out of?
