Ah yes I got a rejection letter from northwestern too. Feelings are hurt but then again it was a stretch anyway

Got my first official rejection letter earlier from UMSL. Good luck to everyone else who’s applying there! Actually still kinda bitter about this and I'm pretty sure it's just some sort of type 1 error but darn they dont seem very keen on accepting international applicants. Most of those getting accepted to whatever PhD program at UMSL are American with U.S. degrees, so, I dunno

Haha heard back from MSU around the same time! Whew what a relief I finally don’t have to worry about not getting into any PhD program now! And MSU is one of my first choices!

Not so sure about the AW score. The majority of social network pieces I’ve read are ethnographies so my opinion is biased - but 3.5 seems a little low. You have nothing to worry about though, like others said, if you’re aiming for programs w strong quant focus you should be fine. For TOEFL, what’s your speaking scores? If it’s 25+ you should do alright.

Yo I got waitlisted by Rutgers too but for admission and for a different program (even skinnier chance of getting in I guess).

Question. If Rutgers does not offer funding, will you actually consider going still? I mean, it’s NJ, it’s a pain to afford living there

Totes. MSU’s a great fit for what I wanna do so... I’m also doing Rutgers PSU UMSL for their crim where else are you applying to?

My profs told me these "objective measures" aren't that important so I went ahead with my suuuuuper low GRE scores (<320), guess I'm pretty much over. Based on the results board i think being international really isn't bad but if you have not studied in the US it might be an issue...

said they're gonna publish results some time mid-Feb so... fingers crossed

That gave me a heart attack too lol International student here - did do my undergrad and master in the states though so hopefully them schools will still consider me... asked a bunch of people I know and apparently schools are concerned about money issues and legal issues (documents and else), plus Chinese students are being considered less cuz of that political tension and whatnot so... *shrugs who knows

Hey folks, Didn’t really see much on 2020 apps so I figured I might start one? Applying to UMSL MSU Rutgers and Penn State for their CCJ programs and Northwestern for their Soc. Super anxious about it lol

Meh I had someone from the city jail (in China) I volunteered for write me a LOR and he only has a B.A. degree (not even in criminal justice or criminology - he went to school for computer engineering) and I still got accepted into some nice programs.

That was super helpful... I took my tests in 2017 (application for AU18) and did not study at all lol. My quant was fine (165) but I totally screwed up on Verbal (154) and writing (4.0). Hopefully I'll do better this year

Hey everyone, new here so not sure if this has been asked. I'm curious how many international students are studying criminology and criminal justice in the states... In my program there are like, a couple of international students and I checked some other schools and the numbers are pretty low too.
