Anyone receive acceptances through snail mail?
mscongeniality1 replied to doozer's topic in Waiting it Out
Three of mine were snail mail. Three were website/email notifications. -

Haha, thanks! I would have considered it slightly more successful if I had received funding from a couple more places, but I guess I will take what I can get. Right now I'm seriously looking at Vandy, UNC, and Mizzou (simply because they gave me an assistantship, though I don't really have more details about it thus far). I'm going to go visit Nashville at the end of next week and I'll be at UNC's open house the weekend after so hopefully visiting those schools will help me decide which to accept. PS Congratulations on BU -

Yep, same here. I just looked at the status check and it still says "your application has been forwarded to the Graduate Committee for review". Granted, it is still 7:30AM there, but whatever. -

I applied to UT Austin and I have nothing yet still! I have been checking their status check site like crazy and I'm going to check my mailbox one more time before I drive off for my OWN spring break I only see 1 acceptance for 2011 on the results board though, and SLP_419 mentioned her friend who got an acceptance to UT, so maybe they're just rolling out letters very, very slowly? I have a feeling I'm going to come back to school with a Texas letter gathering dust in my mailbox. -

It went to my current address (aka, my dorm, not my house 2 hours away). Might want to double check with them if you don't hear by the end of the week? -

...mmm, yeah, maybe. I don't know. I know I will start wanting to know and begin to get anxious tomorrow regardless. -

Eh. I figure I'll hear when I hear...they've been taking their sweet time up until this point. What's a week or two more really going to do? -

Totally agree with this. Funding rocks...and I have a feeling Vandy was particularly cutthroat this year. I really, really hate that everyone can't just get into their top choices. -

My letter came today to my home address (which is in southern Indiana about an hour from Louisville). I would have never known about it had my dad not texted me and said "Uh, you got this letter...want us to open it?" And thanks for the info on Texas, everyone! I have all but ruled it out just based on difficulty of traveling to/from my hometown (no direct flights at any of the three airports within an hour away...bummer) UNLESS I magically get funding. -

I live in Northwest Indiana (West Lafayette) and the postmark says March 4th. Thanks everyone! I hope y'all get good news too. I am floored (and sort of disappointed in a way because they were sure to 1. tell me I probably wasn't getting a scholarship and 2. tell me exactly how much their program costs, which as you all probably know is a LOT). -

Also, I think clinical placement can be an issue too. There are lots more opportunities in the cities, I think, but out in the middle of nowhere there are fewer schools and hospitals and private clinics, so it can be hard to provide appropriate practicum for students without overcrowding the clinical site with students. -

The prof here on our adcom that always speaks at our NSSLHA meetings says that personal statement is most important to him, followed by rec letters, followed by GPA, followed by GRE. He pretty much said to all of us "As long as you're topping 3.5 and 1000 GRE, you should have a decent shot to go to grad school". He also said that high grades and GREs don't often help a student as much as bad GPA/GRE can hurt a student. People thought I was crazy for starting my personal statement over the summer and told me that I should have spent more time studying for the GRE but I think it paid off I think we forget, too, that sometimes it's just about school fit and personal fit. Maybe they are looking for people with certain interests/backgrounds, so what it comes down to in a rejection/waitlist is not "He/she wasn't good enough", but "These other people might be a better fit for our program". Not really very comforting I guess to everyone, but to me it works. -

Got into University of Missouri AND have been selected to receive an assistanceship! Very excited but this makes my decision making so complicated...what do you do when you have to choose between money and your dream school?! I will just enjoy the accomplishment for now and worry later, I guess. -

Don't lose hope! That's exactly how I felt when I was waiting to hear from UNC...checking my phone nonstop for 3 days because all the acceptances were getting calls. As my dad told me, "Sometimes they save the best for last"! (not to diminish anyone else's accomplishments...everyone here is awesome ) Good luck! -

Ah, yes, that seems consistent, since I have an S last name. My friend with the 4 emails has a P last name. I think I'm just being silly and reading into it way too much! -

Hmm...mine was all blind (I can't see any recipients) and I only received the incorrect email, not the correction. Maybe I should take that as a bad sign? My friend who also replied to Vanderbilt received 4 emails from Penny Welch in 10 minutes. It was bizarre. -

Personally, that would turn me off hard-core toward that school (surely you can't be the only applicant flying across the nation to be interviewing for that program), but I do understand that they can't make individual accommodations for every applicant. My suggestion would be to maybe try and get a lot done on that trip (make other school visits on the East Coast, do a tour at Loyola, see family out there if you have them) so it isn't like you're just blowing $700 on 20 minutes. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! Definitely not an easy situation -

Nope, still waiting. Hoping they'll say something by the end of this week or the middle of next week. Hey Purdue applicants, I'm pretty sure decisions went out today. Good luck to everyone who applied! -

Well...the week isn't over yet! Plus it looked like things were received in the mail, so maybe they just sent things a little later, hence the delay... The 630 app number freaks me out and makes me wonder what is so great about Emerson anyway?! (haha, just kidding. I looked at Emerson as a potential school for a very, very long time.) I thought "over 400 applications this year" (according to the Vandy grad secretary) was bad! Oh, and the grad student I work with on a regular basis said she came back from spring break to pretty much all her letters. Our spring break always coincides with St. Patty's Day, so that would be the week or later that I'm expecting to get most of my info (though GradCafe results seemed to indicate otherwise for me). I guess if I don't hear from people after then, I'll get a little more concerned. -

Agreed. My spring break plans sort of depend on whether or not I need to make a visit to Vanderbilt. The bright side of rejection is I might be going to Disneyworld instead.
