I'm getting that too...it's killing me! I want my decision to be available, UNC! Come on! -
What is your method of madness??
mscongeniality1 replied to Oh the waiting game's topic in Waiting it Out
In a word: yes. I do all of these things. It drives me, my friends in my major, and my friends outside of my major up the wall. -

I favor Pandora stations while studying; random is good for me for whatever reason. Some of my favorite artists (which are my stations): Black Violin Bollywood John Williams Lights Escala Vitamin String Quartet Kate Voegele Owl City Mae Colbie Caillat Pink

Can prospective grad students count to 25?

I'm going to hold your tongue with this piece of gauze while inserting the scope in your mouth. Just try to relax and say a nice clear "eeee" sound" for me. -
What are you doing for Valentine's Day?
mscongeniality1 replied to HyacinthMacaw's topic in Waiting it Out
Running a subject in my research lab, turning in my first British Novel paper, studying for my adolescent development test, making my pediatric aural rehabilitation PowerPoint, going to two dance practices, and (hopefully) making time for dinner with the boyfriend. Neither one of us is very keen on the holiday though. -
Ha. I've been doing this because I'm taking all my paper from past English classes and submitting them to my school's annual literary contest. I figure what the heck, I'm graduating, English is not my major field, and you get cash prizes for winning. On a semi-related note, over winter break I read a "where will you be in 1/5/10 years paper" that I was required to write my freshman year of HIGH SCHOOL. Back then I wanted to earn my Ph.D in clinical psychology at Stanford. I had high hopes as an adolescent...

I'm doing this too! And I, too, am looking at Penn State and noticing how expensive it is for such a random rural area! A definite con for PSU in my book.

I totally agree with this! People at my school in my major ooh and ahh over my GRE score (which isn't anywhere near perfect but I will say that it is over the supposed "golden 1000-point line" that exists in our field's admissions) and I just want to tell them "But...but...it doesn't matter if I'm not a good fit for their school!" No grad program (especially in my field--speech-language pathology) wants a robot that is good at taking tests and nothing else...you need people skills too.

I know! A friend of mine found out she got into MIT (nuclear engineering) so now I am all WHERE ARE MY LETTERS?!?! Other than that, I have only heard of one person in speech/hearing that has heard back. A friend of mine got into Indiana's AuD program. No word on SLPs yet (though a buddy got an invite to St. Xavier's open house...we overanalyzed that one to death). -
22! 23 in September My age is coincidental, I guess...in order to get a job in my field (or at least the job I want), I have to have at least a master's degree...hence the mad rush of all my peers and I submitting our apps!

Coping with Waiting. Last night, I had a nightmare.
mscongeniality1 replied to Waves's topic in Waiting it Out
I had a dream I flew out to one of my "top schools"...with my school's basketball team. Not really a nightmare but really weird nonetheless. And I'm 22 and STILL love the greatness that's Full House. -

The degree of my happiness will probably vary depending on which school accepts me. Regardless, I'll be excited, but here are some of the things I'll do if I get accepted to my top choice: 1) Read and reread to make sure I didn't misread the letter/email. 2) Cry a little. 3) Call the 'rents. 4) Call the boyfriend. 5) Dance. 6) Go out drinking with my girlfriends the first night possible (shots shots shots shots shots shots...EVERYBODY) And if I get funding to my top school I will simply fall on the floor and die of shock.

How much did this process cost everybody?
mscongeniality1 replied to ElectedSilence's topic in Applications
My word, I thought I was being extravagant in my application process... $692 for 6 schools. App fees: $352 Transcripts: $48 GRE: $252 Eeeek...I forgot it was that much -
I am feeling the senioritis as well! I'm taking a courseload which puts me at full-time status (13 hours) but none of my classes are really required for graduation...I should have graduated last semester, but I digress. Anyway. One class is jazz dance, one is British literature but I'm taking it pass-fail, one is a pretty straightforward adolescent development class, and the last is a grad-level class in my department...that ends at the 8 week mark. I'm busy now with those things and my lab work and extracurricular activities, but still I am not too motivated to do much else, and once my grad class ends, I only have Tuesday and Thursday class. Granted, MWF will become hard-core lab days, but still. I'm bored and constantly thinking about my impending letters so don't worry, you aren't alone, OP.

Time from now till August (when you join grad school)
mscongeniality1 replied to garibaldi's topic in Waiting it Out
Well, I still have to finish up my pesky undergrad, which includes finishing my remaining 5 1/2 novels for British Lit and finishing up a research project in the lab I work for. I also have tickets for Spamalot and Blue Man Group--both of which are coming to my school, so I'm looking forward to that. After graduation (!!!!!!), I need to work like there's no tomorrow so I can finance my grad school adventure. -

GPA is 3.98, same GPA for speech/hearing. GRE was 1270 (590 V, 680 M, 5.5 W). Research experience in speech/hearing department for...5 semesters? I think this will be my 5th semester. Not a lot of shadowing/clinical experience though, just the 25 observation hours required for my clinical class plus a little extra. Good luck everyone! -

Weird...I must be the only person that had a good dream about admits...dreamed one of my top schools admitted me and then said they were sending me to Australia for vacation. Bizarre but hey, ridicule free. -
For every rejection letter I receive, I plan to treat myself to one drink and one Red Mango treat. If I get waitlisted, I get two drinks and two fro-yos (since I weirdly am dreading waitlists more than rejections).

Mmmmm...I love Von's. One of my minors is English, so every semester that I take an English class, I get to wander the store. LOVE. Yes, I was (am?) an SLP undergrad. Guess I should have been more clear
