  1. I'm not sure about affordability, but as everyone has mentioned, the west coast states are INSANELY competitive. I'm native to California and I have decent enough stats, but I haven't gotten into any schools in California, Oregon, or Washington. Had I realized how unlikely it was to get in, I might have saved the money on application fees, LOL. If you're looking into the western states in general, there are some outstanding programs in Montana, Idaho, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, and Wyoming! My advice is not to give up on the west coast, but to spread out your applications to a wide array of schools!
  2. The price difference is $25k-$30k. I feel silly even typing out that price difference, but I guess I just have major FOMO about grad student life in a nice college town. Does that even exist? Or is everyone everywhere just fully absorbed by their workload?
  3. Hey everyone, I'm so beyond excited that I've been accepted to two programs. I'm in the process of trying to decide between them. One is lower-cost, but it is in a really small isolated rural town a few states away, and the other is much more expensive, but it's in a bustling hip college town. I'm leaning towards the cheaper option (since I LOVE the program itself), but I'm not sure if I'm feeling the town its in. Is grad school so busy that you won't even have time to spend off-campus and outside of clinic? Should I even worry about anything other than the school and program? Is anyone else going through a similar decision? I'd love to know everyone's thoughts!
  4. I've been accepted too, and I'm super excited! Is anyone else going to the open house on April 1st?
  5. I am still in the process of completing my post-bac classes, but I have been admitted to a couple of programs based on my grades from previous semesters, on the condition that I "demonstrate similar academic achievement." By the time I complete my post-bac program, my GPA will have gone down a bit, from a 3.85 to around a 3.5 or 3.6. One program is especially competitive, and I'm worried that my updated GPA will take me out of the running. Am I in danger of having a conditional offer of admission rescinded? Has anyone heard of this happening?
  6. I have recently been admitted to a couple of my top choice SLP programs, but unfortunately they are both unaffordable for me without some sort of funding. I have reached out to both schools asking when these decisions about funding will be made. Both of them replied by saying that offers of funding, GA positions, and TA jobs will be granted AFTER the April 15 deadline, possibly even as late as the first semester of grad school. I'm just feeling very frustrated because the price of a school is a very important factor in my decision, and I don't know how I could possibly commit without knowing what the financial situation will be. Has anyone else encountered this? How are you all dealing with this kind of situation?
