  1. Almost 5... doubt we'll hear back from Northwestern. ?
  2. A bit off topic, but does anyone know how a PhD in Canada affects your job prospects in the USA? For example UBC has a great reputation, and is probably equal to the #25 to #35 range in the USA. But if you get your degree there, will it make it harder to find a job in the USA? Haven't heard back from UBC yet, but it's something I'm considering.
  3. Hope you're right, but Northwestern usually sends rejections out late, weeks after acceptances.
  4. I agree. It's not that hard to start a career after completing a BA in political science. I went to school in D.C., and plenty of my friends went straight to think tanks, nonprofits, or government jobs after graduation. Within 10 years I'm sure many of them will be making six figures. If you want to money, you're better served doing a BA, or possibly an MA, and then moving straight to a job. A PhD to me comes from a genuine love of the subject. Yes, I need to pay the bills for the rest of my life... but if I can get paid to do what I love for 6 years, at the highest level, why wouldn't I? 6 years of assured income is no joke.
  5. Also claiming a rejection from Johns Hopkins.
  6. Yeah, at least I know my status now! It was a response from the Graduate Program Coordinator. I called and left a message earlier, and she got back to me personally. She said there are 11 people on the wait list. I'd email her if I were you. I don't think BU sends wait list emails unless you ask them about your status.
  7. I applied to York. I just checked the application portal, and it says no decision has been made yet.
  8. I'm basing it on the Gradcafe results page for JHU's political science program.
  9. I applied to JHU. Based on previous years, it seems they send out results between February 15th and February 28th. Looks like we have a bit of waiting.
  10. Yeah. My partner started a PhD in English literature recently, and she had to take TOEFL to prove competency in English, just because she is an international student. ?
  11. I'm curious why there's a radio silence from some programs that released acceptances quite a while ago (like UMich and BU). If I was put on the wait list, I'm sure they would have told me, like others. Not sure what to make of it.
  12. Northwestern usually sends one or two rounds of acceptances over like a week. But with it being so competitive this year, I'm not very optimistic. This could be all the acceptances for this year, but I hope I'm wrong.
  13. That was last week though. Today two people on the forum claimed acceptances from NW.
  14. Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, UC Irvine, possibly Cornell, etc. (I looked for schools specifically with a more qualitative bent, so most of the ones I applied to lol).
  15. Congrats! I am sure our friend of 'high caliber' would be interested to hear you got into one of the top schools. ?
  16. Would it be a bad move to email one of my interviewers a week after the interview? Still haven't heard back, and I'm curious.
  17. My roommate introduced me to this music recently. A fusion of Persian and West African music. I've been listening to it today, and it's helped take the edge off my anxiety. Very relaxing.
  18. Another day ends. Congrats to everyone who received acceptances!
  19. It varies from place to place. Sometimes they share the acceptance rate on the FAQ section, and sometimes you have to dig around in the broader graduate studies stats. For example Northwestern's graduate school has the stats for all the different programs. Their poli sci department on average accepts somewhere between 9 and 11% of applicants a year. Meanwhile Santa Cruz straight up tells you on their poli sci department that they accept 15 out of 75 applicants, so around 20%. But COVID has seen a huge spike in applications... not to mention tight budgets. So there's no telling this year, although it looks much more competitive than usual.
  20. Agreed that good fit is more important than anything else. I got accepted to UC Irvine because of strong fit but got put on the wait list for UMass, which is lower ranked.
  21. I feel this so hard! I've been waiting on tenterhooks for BU for so long...
