Yeah, that's some Zen monk level will power!
-
? Already 12:20 central time. Where are the results?!
-
Good luck tomorrow everyone!
-
I feel like Monday will be a day when we hear back from several schools. Feb 1 just sounds like a good time to release decisions
-
Maybe a silly question but how formal is too formal for a Zoom interview? Is a shirt and tie being 'extra?'
-
Well guess I'm not hearing back this week from any schools. Sigh
-
Congrats to BrownSugar and NeedAMormon!

3 pm Central time and no word from BU, kill me already. ?
-
Wow, got so many responses to my question about where people are applying. Best of luck everyone! I applied to to UC Irvine, Johns Hopkins, Boston University, Northwestern, UC Santa Cruz, University of Virginia, University of British Columbia, University of Michigan, UMass Amherst, Cornell, University of Colorado-Boulder, and York University.
-
When do you think we can expect to hear from BU? Been waiting anxiously for this one... ?
-
Where all did y'all apply?
-
Ugh, so much anxiety. Here I am trying to read Grundrisse and I get intrusive thoughts every 30 seconds about grad school admissions lol
-
I also called NW and can confirm, they said they expect to see them around Feb 15th.
-
Where did you learn that BU is having a smaller cohort?
-
I'm in the same boat. Applied 12 unis and no word back yet...

The beginning of March? Most years Northwestern sends out admits by the last week of January. Did they say that they are sending them in March this year because of COVID?
-
Wait programs are doing interviews this year? I thought that usually only STEM programs do interviews.
-
Ah well, I'll keep up my hopes then. On another note, do you think not including a GRE score hurts your application? I have a BA and an MA. I took a GRE test before starting my MA and my score was 165V/155Q/5.0AW. I didn't submit the score to my PhD applications for this round because my Quantitative score is mediocre. Then again I want to specialize in theory, so maybe it didn't matter. Hope the adcoms don't assume I'm a marginal application because I didn't include the GRE.
-
Damn, well, guess I'm doomed. If Northwestern and other top schools actually have only a 1 or 2% acceptance rate because of Covid.... Christ.
-
I was wondering how COVID will affect the timing of the admissions offers. It seems like most people are saying that fewer people are applying this year to PhD programs, but that the programs also have fewer spots open. Does that mean we can expect to hear back earlier, since there are fewer applications to review? In normal years, programs seem to send admits around early or mid February.

OP has a strong app with their GPA and their letters. I should have listed those positives instead jumping straight to the GRE score, which is within range, so in that sense you're right. I apologize to the OP.

I think you have a good shot in UCSD, Illinois, Ohio State, UC Davis, and maybe UW Madison. The others (Yale, U Chicago, Northwestern, etc.) are hard to get into for anyone. Your Verbal GRE score is on the lower end for this tier IMO (the average is around 164-165), but 161 isn't bad, and it won't automatically disqualify you.
