As an addition to my post above (apologies for the double post, but it won't let me edit for some reason), I was wondering if people could comment on the following buildings/the areas that they are in please: 1. 1201 N Charles 2. 26 Calvert St 3. 611 Park Avenue They're each a bit more than I was hoping to pay, but the N Charles and Calvert street options both have a washer and dryer in the actual units, which may not be a big deal to some, but is a huge deal to me. I haven't had a non-private W/D since my sophomore year of college and that's just one of those luxuries I'm not prepared to give up if I don't absolutely have to ?. 611 has a laundry facility, but reviews make it seem like the prime area. N Charles and 611 appear to be on opposite ends of Mt Vernon, so mostly wondering what the difference is between the "closer to downtown" vs "closer to Mid-Belvedere" ends. Thank you so much!

Hi! Looks like this post is a little dead, but hopefully someone sees and can help please. I have been accepted to JHU and will be on the East Baltimore campus for my PhD. Through this thread and other forums I've been on I know to steer clear of living in that area, but I am torn between Upper/Fells Point and Mt Vernon. I will have a car, but I've been told parking by the East campus is pretty much impossible, so hoping to stick to buses for getting to and from class. It sounds like Mt Vernon is a bit better in terms of restaurants, groceries, and general walkability, but Fells Point sounds more... lively(?), and it would certainly be closer. I don't do well with roommates, so basically need the cheapest studio possible as I'll be on student loans. I'm female, 26, and look forward to exploring the city. My ideal area would be upbeat but nothing crazy. Thanks so much for the help!

Personally, school #2 sounds like the better option. I think the research fit is the most important factor when deciding on a school. Plus, if the first two years' funding is guaranteed, that gives you time to figure out years 3 and 4. I've also never heard of anyone not having to TA/RA while in school, so that sounds pretty great if you can get a fellowship and then have the option to not do either of those if you didn't want to. Regardless of how far away, can you see yourself living in city #2 for 4/5 years? Just my two cents, but I hope it was helpful! Good luck and congratulations!

After 3 applications cycles, 14 applications, and 12 rejections, I am FINALLY going to my dream program! I got a call from JHU GDEC Friday afternoon and I received my acceptance letter/saw portal changes a few hours later. DREAMS COME TRUE LADIES AND GENTS YOU CAN MAKE IT OFF THE WAITLIST! Seriously though, thank you to this forum for all of the support and well wishes. Congrats to all!!!

I think you say just that - you’re still considering their school, but you have another offer pending and don’t want to make a final decision until they come back. If they’ve given you until April 15, they can’t make you decide anything before then. All these schools have to know what a mess and a half it is between offers, funding, waitlists, and all of the other intricacies applicants have to figure out when all of these schools have different timelines but the same final decision date. As long as you’re polite and transparent, no reason not to be honest!

You’re very welcome! It’s not a guarantee that the school will give you the extension of course, but then in that case, you can always accept and then retract. To be honest, I’m not sure what the nuances of retracting AFTER April 15 are... personally I feel like a retraction is a retraction regardless of when someone does it, and as long as it’s done politely and transparently, there shouldn’t be a reason for bridges to burn. I’m actually in a similar boat! Waitlisted for my number one, accepted elsewhere. I’ve reached out to the program I’ve been accepted to in order to ask for an extension on my decision deadline, which they gave me (May 15). I do know some people accept and then retract, but personally, if you can get the extension, I think that would be the better route. Where are you waitlisted? If you don’t mind me asking! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for both of us!

Ahh. Well dang, I'm sorry it's taking so long and you haven't been able to squeeze any information out of the Café community. You're not alone in the waiting boat though! Not that that's much of a consolation.... but at least you only have this week left! Crossing my fingers you get good news when you finally get it!

Have you tried reaching out to admissions? At this stage in the game, if you haven't heard anything (acceptance/rejection or waitlist), then I think it's fair to ask when you can expect a decision either way. Especially since you're sitting on another offer and will need to be able to give them an answer.

Does anyone know anyone who was accepted to JHU International Health other than the two posters on this thread? Obviously I'm not looking for names or anything like that, but the results page for this program is so darn sparse, it's making me a little crazy. I know it's possible that all those people don't know or care that this website exists, but the three or four results compared to the ten or more offers admissions told me they made doesn't jive. Not that this information really helps anyone, but with us being so down to the wire I'm a bit starved for movement on this forum and for any little tidbits. Happy Monday to all!

Try ASPPH’s website! They have a ton of information on financing your public health degree... and it’s a LOT easier to find scholarships for masters programs than PhD programs. Good luck!

Has anyone made/declined any offers yet, or is it still too early? I know Pitt's admitted student day is next week, but looking at the above posts, I guess there are still a lot more to go than I would have thought!

Have any of the schools offered you any financial aid? Tuition scholarships, etc? As someone who got a scholarship for her MPH and STILL had to take out loans, which I am still paying back, save money where you can!

If the DrPH is funded that well, and they'll work with you so you don't have to give up your full-time job, I'd be hard pressed to see a reason why you should go with the PhD at Hopkins instead. The only difference between the two is really just "research heavy" vs. "practice heavy" - they're both doctorate degrees. Does the DrPH program give you opportunities to do research/focus your studies the way you want to? I have a friend who was accepted to a DrPH who says they've let her tailor her courses to where she's basically pursuing a PhD in Epi minus just two or three super advanced methods courses. She says she's very excited and doesn't feel like she's missing out on anything. The only reason I could think of why you might consider waiting to hear from Hopkins is if you'd prefer something super research-focused like a PhD, but the DrPH is more "applied/leadership/etc" (that kind of flavor, ya know?) and won't let you tailor. Hi there! I was told all offers should have been made by now, because faculty had to submit their funding packages for students they intended to take last Friday. I know some people received a waitlist notification Friday, but if you haven't heard anything then I would definitely reach out and ask.
