Lisbethx reacted to UofTmath1 in NSERC C/PGSD 2019-2020
I heard today that I am off the wait list and awarded PGS-D2. I don’t recall my ranking now but I posted it earlier in this thread. I was committee 177.

Hi,
Last year, I was an awardee from the competition's short list of alternates. I got the first notification that I had been put into the waitlist at the end March. My committee was 'Computing Sciences' and I was ranked 62 out of 133 applicants (in top 46.66%) in my group.
I got the good news on the 2nd week of July that the funding had become available and they are going to give me the award.
Funding may become available from two sources:
1) Some CGS-D awardees goes to foreign universities and the award comes down to PGS-D,
2) Some CGS/PGS-D awardees declines the award, because they have better scholarships (such as, Vanair)
I heard that some applicants got the award notification (from the short list of alternates) as late as October for a given year. So, I would say, don't hold your breath too tight , if you are in the waitlist.
Relax, and wait for the magical moment of euphoria, which I had in last July. :)

Received the ranking today. My position is very marginal and I feel extremely lucky to get the award.

It looks like the percentages of applicants vs awarded are pretty comparable for each category, based on this data.
Not registered at a foreign institution: 38% awarded PGS D or CGS D
Registered at a foreign institution: 46%
Registered at a Canadian institution: 41%
Also even though more applicants are awarded PGS D or CGS D from U of T, they have a higher quota and the percentage awarded is still around the average percent for Canadian institutions (42% awarded at U of T).

In previous years how many people on the waitlist usually got accepted?

I think its definitely at least by committee cause that's how we were ranked, but I don't know about the institution balance...

Yea I would have been much happier if they could have sent an email on the 28 saying "offers of funding will be sent by email to succesful applicants on March 29. Non succesful applicants will be mailed information about their rankings"

Lisbethx got a reaction from LiquidEther in NSERC C/PGSD 2019-2020
I emailed today my school's graduate studies office (McGill) and they said that they got the results from NSERC on Friday but could not disclose it to students until we receive the result from NSERC ourselves. They said we should hear from NSERC "within the coming days"...
This is torture.
