Congrats! I've been lurking on the forum but haven't posted yet. I was also waitlisted at Dal (first time applying). Did you find out today, or earlier in the week? I'm half hopeful I'll get off the waitlist, but have a plan in place and will re-apply next year if I don't... fingers crossed. Would you by chance be willing to PM your stats?

Hi! I found out this morning! I will pm you!

  2. I e-mailed Dal SLP admissions for some more information on waitlist movement and they couldn’t tell me much but did tell me “We may be sending out additional offer letters soon (late May or early June), after we’ve heard back from our first round of offers” so there’s still some hope.

Does anyone who was accepted know when the deadline to accept Dal SLP by was?

  3. Hi there! I scored 163 on verbal (93rd percentile), 149 on quant (34th percentile) and 5/6 for written (92nd percentile) so I’ll speak only to verbal and written LOL.  Honestly those flash cards were super important in helping me score well in my verbal section, I got the app on my phone and studied them in any given free moment and then just practice questions to get used to the format. I never actually did a proper full practice exam or a practice written section, I just reviewed the examples of what a high score in the GRE practice book were considered and did a few practice timed verbal sections. I’d say three months is a good amount of time if you don’t want to rush/ if you have other commitments (I had work). I started studying in September and I scheduled to write in November but I did postpone mine by a month because I was freaking out on how little math I had practiced but then didn’t end up having much more time to learn it anyways. My friends who scored very well on the math section told me practice questions were key because they use such a similar style in their exam that it’s just about getting used to solving that style of problems.

    Hope this helps, good luck!

Has anyone who was originally placed on the Dal waitlist been accepted since for the 2019 year? Just curious how long I should keep my hopes up/ if it's been fruitful for anyone!

I had a friend who was accepted off the waitlist as late as June 5th last year (she declined because she got into U of A) and another friend of mine was accepted off the waitlist two days before classes started two years ago (obviously not ideal and she had already chosen a school abroad by then) so try not to lose hope! But I totally feel your pain especially since their waitlist is so mysterious in terms of size and where one is on it.

I was informed of my waitlisted position at Dal on April 2nd like the majority of folks on here. I responded and received a confirmation that they were updating my filed to confirm my spot on the waitlist. However, my online application status still reads "incomplete items outstanding" and "written decision to follow" even though below it shows that I've completed all the requirements on time. Anyone else have this issue? Just makes me worried when there are inconsistencies in the online system.

Hi, I had the same issue and so I e-mailed their office asking about this inconsistency and they responded assuring me I was not missing any items and even if I were, they would notify me by e-mail should I be accepted off the waitlist. I just replied to the initial e-mail informing me I was waitlisted!

Do those of you who have heard back from Dal still have this listed on the website?

    Application Status: Decision Made
    Decision: Written Notification to Follow

Mine actually says "Incomplete items outstanding" next to application status and I was waitlisted on April 2nd so maybe contact them?

Congrats on being put on the Dal waitlist! I was waitlisted in the audiology program before being accepted in May.

I don’t know how many people are on the waitlist. But Individuals are seperated Into two sections: maritime and non-maritime. If someone from the maritime decides not to attend they will find someone one on the waitlist from the maritime’s to replace them. There tends to be more movement on the non-maritime list.

One SLP student last year got accepted a week before the start of school. (But that does not happen often) All the others I know  about got in before August.

Accepted students usually have 1-2 weeks to accept their offer. When a spot opens up it can take time before one is contacted off the waitlist.

Every year is different. This year, there may be a lot of movement on the waitlist or only a couple of spots opening. It’s very hard to predict. Best to hope for the best but make plans to do something else in the fall.

    Wishing all of you luck!

    Thank you for the information!

    Goodluck with Dal!

Did you get an email from them? I havent heard anything at all from Dal yet...

    Thank you!

Yes, I got an e-mail from them on April 2nd, I would maybe reach out to them in a few days if you haven't received anything? They told me I need to let them know if I want to keep my spot on the waitlist by April 15th. I am also a non-maritime applicant for reference.

Congrats on the waitlist for Dal!  Did Alberta directly tell you that having pre reqs still being completed is an disadvantage then?  I got accepted into Alberta and am currently still finishing 2 pre reqs as well.  I hope Dal works out for you!

Hi! Congrats on getting in! Yes they did they did tell me that specifically along with the other criteria they look at when deciding on applicants. They also emphasized having more than one incomplete pre req wouldn’t bode well when I went to an information session for prospective applicants. My incomplete pre reqs are also linguistics/phonetics courses so that may have been a factor. I’m sure it was a mix of other factors as well, I just thought I’d at least have been on the waitlist.

Good luck to everyone else waiting, fingers crossed!

  13. Hi everyone,

Just discovered this forum. I switched from wanting to do OT to being an SLP after starting my job as an OTA and realizing how much I enjoyed the SLP side of things.

I applied only to U of A and Dalhousie and was heartbroken when I received a rejection from U of A because it's where my home is. I thought I would at least be waitlisted but I am still completing two pre-reqs (one in an evening class and the other in spring because I work full time) and they told me that puts me at an automatic disadvantage.

On the upside, on the same day as my rejection, I was waitlisted to Dalhousie. My friend who is in her first year of U of A SLP told me that the Dal waitlist moves a lot because everyone applies there due to no pre reqs and then turns them down if they get in at home. She also told me she was waitlisted at Dal and heard back as late as June 5th that she got accepted. I'm trying to keep my hopes up but I am also looking to applying to SLP programs abroad as back ups since I have a friend who was waitlisted at  Dal but ultimately went to London for her SLP degree and is now writing her certification exams.

Does anyone know how large Dal's waitlist as well as how many students they accept or any general acceptance/waitlist stats?

Edit: for those still waiting to hear back from Dal, I heard back tow days ago on April 2nd through e-mail so maybe make sure to check your junk mail?
