  1. UofT, last name V, no link yet. Not terribly worried yet though - these online systems unfold in mysterious ways. Earlier this year I got system-notified about a scholarship from the Alberta government at 8pm on a weeknight. That was a different system of course but I wouldn’t be shocked if we receive links and subsequent results at unusual times.
  2. You're right! My mistake. There are quotas but they are just for nominations by the institution. I was going by a comment from my supervisor that of the number that get nominated by the university, 50% are successful. I took that to mean what I said a few posts ago, but my supervisor might have been making an off-the-cuff estimate, or maybe those are the stats that U of T finds on average.
  3. Sorry, I should have phrased my post more clearly. Say U of T was (for example) given a quota of 100 SSHRC awards this year. The school then selected their top 200 applications and forwarded them to SSHRC for adjudication, after which SSHRC’s top-ranked 100 U of T applications get the awards.
  4. ? I’m deliberately frontloading my tasks this week so that I have time to wallow in sorrow if results day goes badly. Hopefully we have better odds than 20%, though. Direct applications might be a bloodbath since there wasn’t a first round for them this year, but I’m told that UofT forwarded double their award quota - so for UofT and probably some other schools it’s theoretically only 50% that will get axed. Not that I’d bet my life on those odds!
  5. Yes, although you're at the mercy of the institution's rules. Last year on Apr. 30 I e-mailed the school of graduate studies at UofT after seeing some folks on here having heard from their departments at the same school. I got a curt response that "results haven't been released yet" and "we don't release results directly to students." I think that sometimes people hear early from sources in their department (e.g. dean or whatever) that have access to the info but aren't officially supposed to say anything yet. Now that I'm not a direct applicant I'm hoping that will happen to me.
  6. Good to know. This actually aligns with what the user SpiderfromMars earlier posted, having found a now-deleted reference on the SSHRC site: "SSHRC Extranet for Applicants: Due to the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, SSHRC has put in place a new process to communicate results to applicants. This includes a new platform: the SSHRC Extranet for Applicants. This secure site will allow applicants to access the results of their SSHRC funding applications. Applicants will receive an email with information on how to activate their account. Once results documents have been uploaded, applicants will receive a subsequent email invite to view the results." So if that holds true, the "more detail" is likely an invitation to sign up for Extranet, after which I guess we have another unknown length of time to wait.
  7. Happy Monday everyone! We made it through the weekend and if all goes according to plan, some or all of us will finally have some SSHRC closure this week. ...in the meantime (largely speaking to myself here ?), let’s do our best to attend fully to the people, tasks, and self-care that will be with us long after the momentary adrenaline of our results arriving.
  8. Last year letters weren't mailed until Apr. 30 - some institutions may have had access to results through their own SSHRC portal before that, but I believe most waited until they knew the envelopes were in the mail to notify their applicants. If you look at last year's thread a number of people heard from their institutions on Apr. 30. I was a direct applicant so I didn't know until I received snail mail on May 5ish - any news we hear before that is ahead of the curve!
  9. I was relieved of the obligation to do TA hours, but I was still allowed to take on TAships and get paid hourly - the university framed that as their generous gift to me, but at the end of the day it didn’t make me anywhere close to the value of the OGS.
  10. It varies by institution. When I held CGS-M at Memorial University, I got to keep the $17.5k without affecting my existing funding, and the university automatically topped me up with a further $5k scholarship. ...however, now that I’m at UofT holding a doctoral OGS, my department was just like “cool, that’s 15k of funding that we no longer have to pay you, thanks!!!” I get the impression that the latter case is more typical in Ontario schools, but it would be worth clarifying with your particular institution. I didn’t realize the situation with my OGS until several weeks after winning, and that really sucked.
  11. If you log into the SSHRC application portal, there is now a "messages" tab at the top. I think that that wasn't there before (anyone recall?). I would hazard a guess that our results will be sent there - probably an e-mail will direct us to go check.
  12. Thank you! Yes, that's a good point and worth remembering if any of us get some less desirable numbers in the next couple of weeks. Keep the faith, everyone - the wait will be over so soon, and no bad luck at the hands of adjudicators will erase or invalidate the hard work we all did to get here.
  13. I was a direct applicant last year and received a physical rejection letter along with my "how the heck did I even get through to nationals" low score. ? It sucked, but it was clear.
  14. From what I gather looking at the other replies they've given to various tweets, the social media person's job appears to be to say "status quo applies/check the website/please be patient." Maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but I'd be inclined to believe what people are hearing from within the organization.
  15. U of T's OGS schedule always lags behind other schools, but my unit's OGS application deadline is this Friday, with results in mid-July. ? Good luck to those waiting for results or still applying!
  16. My jaw literally just dropped. That's good news from the perspective of not having to wait for arbitrary snail mail - but not so good for my self-isolation habit of checking my e-mail too much. ? Best of luck waiting, everyone.
  17. Same here. But in addition to my institutional e-mails, I also got an e-mail directly from SSHRC on Dec. 9, confirming that my application had been received.
  18. Quota applicant this year, but I can confirm that last year I received a letter telling me that my direct application was forwarded to national.
  19. Still waiting to hear from my unit at UofT. ? I assumed that I was just not successful, but my unit confirmed a week ago that all applicants would be notified of success or rejection this week, which is now ticking to a close. I find it puzzling how erratic OGS results schedules are, where some schools already announced a month+ ago.
  20. I'm sorry to hear that! Just wondering, which school was this at? I'm waiting on word from UofT now that the unit deadline has passed; I'm not very optimistic since I haven't heard anything from my unit, but I'm taking solace in the fact that they're notoriously disorganized and uncommunicative.
  21. Letter arrived in Edmonton! Direct applicant entering program in the fall. Unsuccessful, sadly, but looking ahead to other things!
  22. That makes sense too, and sounds especially good to me out west!
  23. Inasmuch as SSHRC hasn't actually announced the completion of mailing on Twitter, I'm wondering if the letters were/are actually sent out in waves, as opposed to all at once. I'm not sure how they would determine mailing order but that might account for anomalies like why Montreal heard but Toronto (mostly) hasn't, etc. ...of course, I'm saying this mostly to rationalize my hopes for getting a letter today in Edmonton even though those closer to Ottawa haven't yet. ?
  24. My understanding is that depending on your year/situation, you could be either. I would (will? ?) hold my award at UofT, which has a quota, but I was a direct applicant because I was not yet accepted to UofT (or otherwise affiliated with another institution) when I applied. Which means that, like the other direct applicants, I'm waiting for the postal worker! NB: if you're living in Kingston I think your odds of getting mail from Ottawa before the end of the week are better than most! ?
  25. I e-mailed UToronto after the above, and got the following (very prompt!) response: "SSHRC results have not been released yet. Once they do, they will notify you directly (email or mail). We do not release results directly to students."
