Minnesota moved it online

This doesn't seem methodologically sound. Which university ranking? Which political science ranking? Reputation based on what? There are a lot of problems here. One can't, for example, place UT-Austin and Minnesota in the same category as Pittsburgh. Look at the placement records.

I don't think it's fair to place UCI and IU in the same general grouping, or to suggest all of those in the top 20-50 are similar. Even if one goes off of USNWR, IU is at #29 and UCI is at #45. That's still a pretty significant gap.

Congrats!

Just a heads up to those still waiting to hear back from UNC (if there are any), my portal was just updated to reflect my acceptance.

I declined my offer at Indiana last Friday. Hopefully this helps.

I officially declined my offer at Indiana University a couple of minutes ago. I hope this helps someone on the waitlist!

I took two undergraduate courses in research design (we covered regression analysis, spatial modeling, factor analysis, programming in R and SPSS, and data visualization). As an MA student, I took a course on inferential and descriptive network analysis. I think these courses may have compensated for my less-than-ideal quantitative GRE score.

If anyone here is on the waitlist at Indiana University, I will likely be declining my offer later this week.
-
Thank you! And yes, it was more generic than the email I received last week from a professor in my subfield.

For those waiting to hear back from UNC, I just received an official admission letter. The email that I received last Thursday was an unofficial notification.

Is there a list on here somewhere of programs that hold a math camp before the beginning of the academic year?
-
UNC usually sends out applications over a long period (i.e., over the course of a few weeks). I emailed the department yesterday and was told that decisions have been made (and I heard back yesterday, as I mentioned above).

I feel like it would be pretty difficult to drop below a 3.7 GPA in a graduate program. In my experience as an MA student at a major R1 institution where MA and PhD students take the same courses, it is pretty difficult to get below an A- in a class. Not sure how things work at UCLA, though. There are, obviously, exceptions and some professors do grade quite aggressively.

Thank you! CP.

Claiming a UNC acceptance. I just received an email from a professor in the department.

Florida State University - What are your thoughts?

I've heard that there's an emphasis on quantitative research there. -
Would it come off as pushy to write to UNC and ask when decisions will be announced?
-
Mine shows the same thing. Is this just a glitch?
-
This is a really interesting question. I've been advised by faculty to not attend a program outside of the top 25. It probably depends on how far removed from the top 25 one is, though.
-
No worries! Best of luck to you!
-
What is the rank of the program? If you click back through this thread, you should be able to find an answer to this question.
-
Are you on the right forum? (I notice that your profile says you're in social work.)
-
I think you're absolutely right. Fit, at least in my case, seems to have mattered more than many other aspects of my profile.

Not sure what's going on at UNC. I'd be really shocked if (some) decisions are not announced this coming week.
