  1. I've yet to decide whether I will send an email, but I'll let you know if I do. My hunch is that decisions will likely be released very soon. Last year they released decisions over a fairly long period (i.e., February 4-February 28), if I recall correctly. I've also read that POIs are the ones who typically contact admitted students.
  2. I have not. I'm contemplating sending the graduate coordinator an email.
  3. The Political Science Department at Northwestern is, in my experience, very unresponsive to potential students. I've also heard this about another department in the CLAS.
  4. I was told by one POI--before I even submitted my application, actually--that the department is very supportive and tightly-knit. And yes, I will be attending! You? The financial package is also a nice touch. It seems like more than enough for Minneapolis, especially if one has a roommate.
  5. This is very good to know. Thanks! I've received emails from several faculty members, and they've all been more than willing to chat. The department's placement record is also pretty strong (a combination of SLACS and research universities), so that's also pretty comforting.
  6. I just had an excellent conversation with a POI at Minnesota. I have a really good feeling about this department.
  7. For what it's worth, a current graduate student at Northwestern posted on Twitter last week that admitted students are visiting this week.
  8. I would be surprised if Chicago doesn't announce acceptances by tomorrow.
  9. I've already been admitted, though. I've been told that a conference presentation on a CV won't make or break an application, so I'm not sure that the dept. in question will really care.
  10. I have a random question. When I submitted my applications in the fall, I had paper proposals under review for presentation at MPSA and at a smaller conference. I'll be attending the smaller conference, but I don't think I can justify going to MPSA now, in light of my thesis writing and defense, travel to a visiting student day(s), etc. Plus, I'm no longer working on the paper that I would present on. Would it be wrong to not attend the conference? I don't want it to look as though I just submitted a proposal to make my application look good.
  11. Michigan -- Sometime around Feb 7/8 UNC typically releases decisions in waves, sometimes over an extended period of time. We could probably hear back anytime.
  12. Also, did it seem like a form letter with your name attached?
  13. Sorry to hear about that. What is your regional focus?
  14. Sorry about that! What's your field, out of curiosity?
  15. Although Northwestern may not care as much about the GRE, the department's website notes that a GRE V score below 160 means the likelihood of admission is low. Yes, exceptions can made made--and probably are--but we're talking about a score of 148 here, not a 158 or 159.
  16. Northwestern doesn't usually announce all decisions at the same time, so don't lost hope!
  17. Perhaps Indiana will send out decisions next week.
