  1. You have to keep in mind about the second one, MGH's actual website is saying that they want to aim for a class size of 60 students, but Edfind is saying that they accept 225 people. These are different things because no everyone accepts their offer, so class size is probably around 60 students for them. The first one, I'm not sure, so as the person above said I wouldn't take either of them has a strict guideline or anything.

    Hi!!

I'm just seeing this (I'm the worst) but I am an undergrad at ISU and usually have the most up-to-date ~tea~ on the University and the speech path grad program admissions!   We talk about it a lot in class as everyone is making their decisions and all.

As far as interviews -- I believe we moved back to not real interviews but rather campus visit days for admitted students to check out the University and the clinic.  If you were not "invited" or they just did not mention it in your email, I would encourage you to reach out to the department head Dr. Vicki Hammen and express interest/get information about potential visit days and come see us!   This will make you look great to the program and the staff. :)

@zach2sawc - 5 of the ladies from my cohort have already accepted their spots at ISU.  I can hook you up with them if you want!  DM me!

Hey, I'm stuck between Elmhurst and ISU, and I would like more insight on ISU would it be cool if I Dm'd you some questions?

  3. I got accepted there and they did a little online open house sort of thing where they just posted videos about the campus and some current students answered some FAQs. It is a beautiful campus and people have said that the faculty is extremely nice and helpful. You only go to class 2 times per week, but its for like 6 hours and then you have clients on the days you don't have class. There's a private clinic on campus, a preschool they work at and the convent with the nuns. Its a Catholic school, so if you're Catholic it will be perfect. The program is also 5 semesters, which is nice and you start clinic right away. I believe you get to pick your externships. The only downsides are that its in South Bend and idk if you're from Indiana or are familiar with South Bend, but it is not the nicest area, although where the campus is located it is a nice area, just other parts of South Bend are not. The other downside is that it is extremely expensive. Let me know if you have any other questions and I can try and help!

You probably are still on it! I think to be removed you had to fill out that survey they sent in the waitlist email. I'd hate to be annoying by emailing them again but I'm thinking about it.

Yeah, you're right. I filled out that I wanted to do a Skype meeting and wanted to stay on the list. I'm just baffled that they haven't said anything about it... I ended up emailing them and asking if they are still planning on doing these meetings and the timeline for the waitlist to come out. Hoping they respond soon.

I don't think so!! Tbh they seem pretty slow at responding to emails in general anytime I email them I never receive a response except for when they reached out to me to tell me my video link wasn't working. I just want to know where I am to see if it's worth staying on the waitlist

Ahh, hopefully they start responding soon. I want to know where I am too, if I'm even still on it

Does anyone know when the waitlist will be available on Indiana State's website? I've emailed the program director a week ago and still haven't recieved a response, and their website says "Check back after 2/20"

I'm wondering the same thing... I requested to set up a Skype interview instead of going to their open house on their survey thing, but I haven't heard anything back... I'm wondering if that last open house on March 13 actually got cancelled and they're now overwhelmed because a lot of people couldn't come then.

That's an actual class where you learn about clinic, SXU has it too so that's how I know! I took Elmhurst off just because it's further from my house, and I got into schools a little closer and I figured I could probably stay on the waitlist for the schools that are closer by (30 minutes) and most likely attend. It was nothing about the program, I'm sure it's great. It's just the distance wasn't for me.

Ah okay thank you! I guess I won't have as many days off as I thought because clinic will probably be then, oh well. I'm just really sad I can't go visit it yet and maybe won't get to. Their virtual tour does not help much.

I have friends that went there for grad school and undergrad! Most of their clients are language and articulation but they still have a mix of everything so you still get the hours you need. Half the cohort is usually from their undergrad due to their direct admit, they don't really overload you with clients it's about 2-3, smaller clinic but it's on campus which is nice, they have a multicultural emphasis which is cool, 3/5 of the professors are very nice the 2/5 are either indifferent to you or are kind of cold (from what I've heard but take it with a grain of salt since everyone has their favorite/least favorite professors). They have a partnership with Gigi's Playhouse so one of your placements might be there (at their main site near campus).

Overall it's a good program will get you your CCCs/where you want to go and prepare you. It just has it's pros and cons like every school. I can ask my friends that currently go there any questions you have if it'll help!

Thank you! I'm glad that they don't have many clients, I don't want to feel overwhelmed! Do you know if we see our clients during the class "clinical practicum" or is that an actual class to learn about clinic? Sounds like a stupid question, but some colleges have it as learning and not for actual clients. If that's when it actually is that sounds nice because I have a couple of days off which I was looking for. I agree with the professors, each college is going to have the ones that aren't so helpful, but every person has a different experience. If you don't mind me asking, I see that you took Elmhurst off your list, why was that?

Thank you! I was just worried because a professor at my undergrad kind of scared us and said Aurora University had a program bt shut down because it couldn't get enough professors to teach or something

I'm sure that wouldn't be the case for a lot of colleges, especially one that is new since the school already knows how many professors they need. I doubt if they didn't have enough from the start they would still have a cohort for the fall.

  10. From what I heard as long as the school doesn't get in trouble they won't lose their candidacy status and that rarely happens. Just because the program is new doesn't mean its any less than somewhere else. Everyone has to start somewhere. I honestly do not think that employers would care if you're school is in candidacy or not because you will still get your C's just like everyone else.

  11. Okay so I was accepted into SIU-C and waitlisted at Indiana State, but I still want to know about Indiana State since they want me to go to an open house and I feel like I have a good chance of getting off the waitlist. There seems to be a stigma at my university about Indiana State and no one will really say why... I like it as an option because its close-ish to home and the tuition is not bad. Basically for both SIU-C and Indiana State I would like to know:

    1. What are the pros and cons of each program?

    2. What is a typical schedule like? How many classes per day?

    3. Do we get clients right away?
