Y'all, I had a dream last night that I was accepted to Denver...my anxiety is really getting to me lol

Bahahaaha. That was me a few weeks ago! That I got accepted into CU and I kept telling my spouse that. He totally brushed it off. But it came true!

I just took a look at my UChicago essay and found 2 grammar mistakes. English isn't my first language, and I'm so scared that the admissions would think I'm bad at it now.

Hmm, is it an obvious mistake? Or small? I doubt a school will reject you over 2 grammatical errors. Especially if it’s something easily missable.

Finally submitted my Penn app!!! And that's a wrap on applying! I'm going out to celebrate! Huzzah y'all.

It definitely wasn't as well written as my other apps due to total exhaustion but I did have a works cited so maybe that will earn me points lol.

I felt that way with half my essays!

hi everyone! i have been following along and have found the forum to be helpful, so decided to jump in. congratulations to everyone hearing back!

i applied to u.mich (12/1), u chicago (12/1), UNC (12/10), and u maryland (in progress - waiting on those last recs to get uploaded)

i got the call from u.mich on 1/13, but no updates to portal/formal acceptance letter yet

heard back from u chicago on 1/24 and got 30k - curious if anyone has talked to the office and heard explicitly that these awards are renewable in the same amount for year 2?

my final decision will ultimately depend on $ and total COA bc debt gives me the scaries!

I personally emailed them and was told it was renewable in year 2.

given you maintain a good academic record.

I did get a scholarship! Honestly, not sure where I'll end up considering the high living costs--which may outweigh the scholarship's value in the long run. I was most excited to hear back from Chicago and Michigan, so I will probably wait to hear my financial aid package from Michigan before making any decisions! I'm starting to realize how large the debt burden will be, which is a little scary... I do plan to visit both Michigan and Chicago--since I'm in driving distance of both.

Can I ask how much you received?!

Yes it’s so difficult to go into debt for a MSW, that’s why I applied to state schools as well. But at the same time there are so many pros/cons to each and we’ll have to just weigh it out. And if a program really caters to your speciality, definitely may be worth the debt in the long run.

Ann Arbor is pricey - but not as expensive as chicago. Ypsilanti is 20 minutes away, and is a lot cheaper to live in as well. And I’ve looked in Hyde Park, not terribly expensive if you can find room mates. But definitely would be a funner experience than Ann Arbor. Both programs are amazing, so I don’t think you make a bad choice either way. I had a friend in the UMICH program and she loved it, she got a job at a hospital for medical social work immediately after.

I wish grad schools also offered scholarships for living expenses.

But all in all - I think everyone should always consider what their 5 year plan is and if grad school and loans are worth it in the long run. I know I really went back and forth while applying, and remember saying I’d never go to UC or CU, that’s way too expensive for the same education id get elsewhere. But the more research I’ve done and the speciality area I want to work in, I realize it was an investment I was willing to take. Although I wouldn’t take without scholarships. Because I can’t imagine paying back $100k (even if this were a different field). So just depends again, what you’re going to do with your degree and how much the schools program is worth to you personally.

When you go to visit either or - I can list a few fun/cool things to on campus if you’re interested.

    Good Luck!

oh that's very good to know! wow i feel really lucky. i know i've worked hard over the years but i know they get so many qualified candidates that also deserve that level of financial support. thank you, i appreciate the kudos.

For sure, enjoy it :) and good luck with the program you chose! Keep us posted.

I would of went crazy without this forum by now.

Hi! Thanks for the reply! We are on the same boat here. I attended two undergrad colleges because I transferred. My gpa at my first college was around 3.26. The cumulative of 3.76 is just for my current school. I think usually they place much more attention on the last few semesters, and since we both improved our grades over time, I hope we both get in!

My GPA was the least considered factor for my application. So I agree with your post! It all comes down to a combination of your SOP,  LORs and Experience. As long as y’all paint a clear path of what you want to do and how the school can help you make that happen, I’m sure you’ll be fine!

Definitely stay hopeful! I don't know how their process works, but the way they release decisions may be either a) more random than we might expect or b) based on some criterion we wouldn't expect

I was surprised by this as well!

Not sure yet! I have an interview next week for the full-time MBA program at UW-Madison, and I'll need to wait for their decision before making my own. I plan to do some more talking with each of the programs I'm accept to to help guide my choice. I only applied to programs that I know I want to attend, but the reason for each is different. It's going to be tough no matter what!

    What about you??

I’m highly considering it! It’s between CU and UC! Just depends if CU offers a scholarship as well! But I’m not sure how generous they are, as I’ve heard UC awards tons of scholarships.

I so thought I was going to get rejected from CU, so I mentally crossed it off. And now I’m considering it - so we shall see! They’re both amazing programs.

    Good luck on your interview!

I also applied on 1/15, if it makes you feel any better I have several Ws on my transcript from sophomore and junior years, most of which are  from a medical leave. Your cumulative GPA is much better than mine though! And I think they will mostly care about how well you did in your last few semesters or if there’s any trend of improvement. Though my cumulative gpa is a 3.48, my last four semesters of school I had a 3.72. Best of luck to the both of us!

curious if everyone hearing back from UChicago applied earlier than the 1/15 deadline? I imagine less than two weeks would be a quick turnaround time for decisions, for those applicants who submitted day of

The decisions currently being released are for those who applied for the Dec 1 deadline. I applied 11/20

Can I ask if any U Chicago people have a separate portal to check? I received an email from Michigan to create my friend account, but with Chicago the only page I have access to is my application. Is that all there should be?

Yes same portal,  it appears below your application submission date in the portal at the bottom of the page. Sorry you didn’t hear back yet - but I’m sure you will! There’s still a ton of people waiting. This year has been so interesting as decisions have been released completely different than the last couple of years.

I did! $31k...but it looks like it's only for the first three terms...?? I was a bit confused by the wording. I am less interested in macro and I think that is a strength of the program. I have a better offer at Wash U and cost of living is expensive in Chicago so I don't think I'll end up going there... Did you?

Yeah it’s for your first year and then renewable for the second! And yes I got a scholarship as well - but yours is more than mine! That’s actually a very generous offer as I’ve read throughout the years they range from $10k-$30k.

UC only offers full rides for one or two students, based on a pamphlet I read from the school.

So $31k for two years - is $62k scholarship. Now thats amazing!! Congrats, you must be a very special candidate and have Alot to bring to the table :)

I applied 11/29, so perhaps they're releasing them based on date? Guess we will see!

I’m honestly not sure! But I wouldn’t fret - as decisions are being released throughout the weeks!!! So maybe yours is coming up. I know our apps go through multiple review processes. (I called). Also - maybe those with scholarships will hear back earlier than later? That way if they decline, they can offer that to someone else with admission?

    I have no idea!

Eep! Did all of them get released at midnight? I am a nervous gal, but I will keep telling myself that no news is good news until told otherwise lol

My email came at midnight! Which is so weird, they usually come after 5 on a Friday!

I still haven't received the pdf version (also heard via phone and email confirmation on the 14th). Pretty frustrating if they are only sending PDF acceptance letters and not including financial aid/merit scholarships! I have to give BC an answer on my scholarship by mid-Feb, and would really love to have some idea of Michigan's cost in order to make a decision. ? Hopefully Chicago sends scholarships as well if they do end up releasing decisions tomorrow!

Scholarship amount is In The decision letter!!
