I also have a quick question that I figured I'd ask here before I email Columbia admissions: if we are accepted for a particular concentration/specialization, are we able to switch tracks following acceptance?

I believe it depends - and you would have to email the dean and write a short letter on why. If they have the space they will let you. If not, you may have to switch your electives to adapt.

Hi! Haven’t really posted in here but just wanted to share that this morning I woke up to an email from NYU saying that there had been a status update on my application page and received an acceptance to the regular 2 year program! I am so excited and hope more of us receive the same good news today as well!

Congrats!!! Thank you for sharing :)

    Hi again!

I submitted my application on November 16th. I just called and asked for an application status and they said “it’s still under review”. :( I’m getting so nervous! Did anyone else apply by priority deadline?

I applied 11/7. Ahh do not worry too much! I think they may be behind.. My portal didn't change with my specialization until just a week or two ago.

Yeah so I called UChicago and they transferred me to Theodore Barnes, the Assistant Director of Admissions. I had to leave a voicemail for him. I kind of chickened out and left a very awkward voicemail saying he didn't have to call me back because I'm sure he is very busy. It was not my finest moment hahaha. I was just so flustered that they sent me to someone so high up. I assumed I would be talking to a student worker or something.

Oh my goodness haha! Well no worries - it may be a small dept, and don't worry. When I reached out to CU several times in Dec, I didn't realize I was emailing the assistant director the entire time! Sometimes those are the only people with access to our admissions decisions, etc.

Mine changed the same day to show my concentration and specialty as well. International Social Welfare and Services to Immigrants and Refugees.

AYEE! I chose the SAME  path :D

P.S. I applied 11/7/19 and mine just changed within the last two weeks.

    Congratulations !!!!!!

I have an interview with Michigan next Tuesday, did you by chance get asked to interview? I have no damn idea what they want from me.. No one else I have spoken too was asked to interview so I am stressing.

If you applied for one of their scholarship initiatives - that may be why they are interviewing you.

I called as well just now. If  your application has already been reviewed, you will hear in the next few weeks. My application had not been reviewed yet so the woman said i would hear back by march 1st which means i could hear any time between now and march 1st. I am sure if I called tomorrow and my application had been reviewed already she would have told me I would hear in the next few weeks. Seems like she's giving pretty consistent answers its just based off if your app has been reviewed or not.

    Yes that must be it!

That is slightly shady feeling on their part. Now I wonder what criteria it is..

The only thing I can think of, is if they are possibly releasing generic "march timeline" statements to callers, unless a candidate asks for the application status (which I did). Apparently a decision has already been made on my file.

ya'll I just got phone call acceptance from UMich! I was totally stunned I thought it was a spam call lol. Sounds like they're backed up in processing/posting things right now though so won't be official for a bit and I'm not sure about funding, but if you're still waiting they're definitely still rolling :)

    Also @Zayah what happened???

SO I definitely feel they are releasing decisions based off some type of criteria. After looking up my file, I was told I would know in the next week or two and typically decisions are released after business hours.

I tried to press for more information (for other candidates), and asked what the time frame in general was for those who applied for ED (Dec 1) . And they said "around march".... But then why would I hear back in the next week or so if I applied for ED as well, but others won't hear back until March? Sorry Y'all I was really trying to get more info for everyone!

    And Congrats on UMICH!

Yes! I called and said my first name and the person I spoke to said that my application had already been reviewed so I would hear anytime in the next couple weeks. I thought maybe I was getting brushed off because I knew I hadn't given them my last name, so that explains it.

I say don't worry about calling multiple times! They go through this every year and know that a bunch of stressed out applicants (us) are going to call with questions.

Well that's a great sign then!! GOOD LUCK :D

When I called CU in December to confirm my application was received, they already knew who I was as they picked up. I asked how they knew, and with caller ID  they had looked up my name/application at that moment. I'm wondering if they're giving different responses based on application status. I'm worried to call back for this reason. Anyone else have a similar experience?

That makes so MUCH sense. WHAT number are guys calling? They haven't answered when I called.

Top choices are UChicago and Michigan, but I am still awaiting news from both. I was given $40,000 to BC--dispersed over two years, but they did ask for an answer by Jan. 10 (which I requested and was approved for an extension). Funding is a big concern for me as well--If I don't receive funding from the other programs, I'll probably end up at BC. Stats: I graduated from cum laude from a Top 30 undergraduate program with a Sociology degree (WGS minor). I'm on my second year of AmeriCorps service to income-qualified residents--where I do energy audits, education, and minor home repairs. Best of luck!

Did you apply by Dec 1st? If so - we should start hearing back over the next two weeks!

Stats - are awesome! Thanks for sharing, that is a very generous scholarship amount, I am sure UC can match that. I am unsure how much UM typically awards.

    I didn't say my name.

I thought we'd start hearing around now until February also. I have a feeling that they just said March and that we might be hearing back sooner.

Gotcha. Honestly I've ruled out Columbia as an option, but the hype is making me anxious too LOL. Well i'm sure the minute someone finds out - it will be posted here!

I've also read - decisions are posted at 5pm, from previous years threads.

Re: Columbia - the email I got after I applied said that I would hear by February 2020. Not sure if that means by the end of February or before the month starts, but because of that email, I'm dubious of them waiting until March to notify us if we applied by the priority deadline!

I'm curious if people are giving their names when calling? That is the only reason I think someone would be told different information. Some decisions may be ready for certain individuals vs. others.

Ex, if you get waitlisted, etc.

I was told by an admissions contact (back in Dec) - that decisions would be coming out starting Mid Jan until Feb.

The person I spoke to said I should hear back by the end of January so just a little while longer! Thank you so much ❤️

Gotcha! Will if they told you by end of Jan, then you definitely will hear by then. They are pretty good about giving reliable info.

    And yup!! NP

Thanks! This gave me the courage to call-- my application has yet to be updated :( I think it is taking a little while longer because I applied close to the final deadline. Hopefully I hear something in the next two weeks or so.

Awe!! Well I am glad you called, did you ask when you could call back to check again? I hope you hear back soon. I know they have been reviewing since sept, so they aren't super behind. Hoping your back in the next week or so! Good Luck Anna, I HOPE you get in!!!
