  1. Thanks so much for clarifying this! I am relieved now. I got some questions about what next: 1. Does anyone know when you start hearing about the decision? I am referring to the...bad news...rejections. This is my first time so Idk much yet but some of my friends who are applying for the 2nd or 3rd time said that some schools announced the rejection in a week or two. (I am assuming via application status?) 2. How common are waitlists in psych phds? The only school I know for sure does it is U Minnesota.
  2. Hey all! I submitted all my applications today and noticed that some schools show my Official GRE score as “verified” but some others don’t. I sent the scores during 12/19-12/21 and the “verified” schools received them between 23rd-25th. I am not entirely worried cause some schools say it may take 48 hours until the official scores show up after submitting the application. But I am still worried, you know ? Anyone knows what usually happens? Also, is anyone applying to Michigan Ann Arbor? I sweat that I didn’t see anywhere on App Checklist/in the actual online app to upload my unofficial GRE reports. But in the preview-your-application-pdf thing, the last page had a section about uploading unofficial GRE scores?! I will call the psych department on Monday but am freaking out.
  3. Hi all! I asked this in Dev psych thread but wanted to reach bigger crowd and hear more opinions. I am contemplating between two sets of GRE scores: V 159/Q 167/AW 3.5 vs. V 155/Q same/AW 4.0. I did NOT expect AW 3.5 for the first set and scheduled a second set asa I got the first scores but apparently I suck at writing stuff under 30 mins. - Undergrad GPA 3.5 from one of the most competitive schools - 3 co-author publications, 1 first-author manuscript in progress (will submit the draft as academic writing sample), 5 first-author posters - Extensive research experience from undergrad + 3yrs post-bacc in a psych lab - 3 letter writers explicitly promised strong letters I truly believe that my AW scores do not represent my writing skills. So I've initially considered sending the first set, hoping that my other materials will show beyond the AW scores. But I am now worried if the schools have "hidden" cut-off scores and will drop my application wo giving a proper review? All of the schools that I am applying to indicate that they have "no minimum or cut-off scores for GRE" but I am also hearing that the admissions committees still have some "hidden" cut-off scores in mind. What do you guys think? Which one should I submit?

  5. Thanks for the responses! I am still debating on which set and need to make up my mind in the next couple of days...Will try to ask in the bigger forum!
  6. Thanks for the response! I am leaning towards the second set now. I think verbal score of 155 can be easily covered with other qualifications but 3.5 in writing may raise red flags... I did think about sending both scores but am worried that the two might look questionable side-to-side (drop in the verbal score and tiny increment in writing).
  7. Personally, I think there is no harm going with the second score. Especially if you have a good writing sample to submit or some publications?
  8. Hi all! Reading about everyone's GRE concerns made me want to ask what you guys think about my situation. On the first exam, I got V 159 (83%), Q 167 (90%), AWA 3.5 (39%). I did not worry at all about the essay score so that came as a huge surprise, so I took a second exam asap and got V 155 (68%), Q same, AWA 4.0 (57%). I figured that I suck at standardized writing under 30 mins. - Undergrad GPA 3.5 from one of the more competitive schools - 3 co-author publications, 1 first-author manuscript in progress (will submit as academic writing sample) - Have extensive research experience from working at a psych lab for 3 years since graduating in 2016 - 3 letter writers explicitly promised strong letters for me And now I am contemplating on which set of scores to report...I initially thought of going with the first set because I truly believe that my writing materials and letters will show my true writing skills. However, I am also wondering if going with the second set and looking rather mediocre overall (than below-average for writing) may be better...What do you guys think!?
