I’m expecting to hear from Iowa’s Fiction program pleading me to grace them with my 800 page novel excerpt.
-
Really hoping there’s a bunch of decisions tomorrow like I’m predicting. This is so draining.
-
My advice for this is to look up the general TA/GA funding through the website and then cry when it’s not enough to live on.

February 1st is probably going to be nuts for a lot of people. It better be one of us or I’m gonna implode.
-
Y’know, for some reason I thought that the typical rules of Monday and Friday results would apply. I know that the day isn’t over, but I’m not as convinced that today is a notification day.

Honestly, this happened to me last year. I was constantly checking gradcafe every five minutes, I wasn’t concentrating on school, I was looking at my email waiting and waiting for something that never came. When I got rejected from everywhere I attempted to...well...Anyway, I know the prospect of not getting in on the first try is scary, but I feel like I learned more from trying again and recovering from my disaster application season. This probably won’t ease anyone’s anxiety (‘cause the majority of you are first time applicants if I’m correct), but take it from me. If all goes wrong this year, there is another year coming.

OMFG my mailed transcript for one of my colleges finally got processed at New Hampshire! My old college only does mail or fax (why?) and I was so stressed. I had a dream about it getting updated 2 weeks ago and was so disappointed that it wasn’t real. I’m grinning like an idiot for basically no reason.

You saved my butt. Thank you, this isn’t horribly far from where I live, and it seems like a realistic option.
-
So uh, I know a lot of you have backup plans that involve moving somewhere else / trying again. I hope I don’t need my backup plan, because it’s applying to U Delaware for a PhD in Linguistics (in February). Somehow this feels even more unrealistic than my current plan.

Anyone here get waitlisted at Tennessee’s PhD program?
-
@teasel @tippybug I couldn’t remember the name of the person that wrote Human Acts...until now...thaaaaaaaaaaaanks haha. What a nightmare.

Hi! Nice to meet you! And you never know if you won’t make it until you try. I’m a poet, but I really enjoy my fair share of science too, so I try and incorporate that into my poems. I was studying to become a genetic engineer back in my first years of college. And now I have an English degree. My favorite poets are Rosanna Warren (as you all know), Lorca, and Ed Hirsch. Unfortunately, a lot of my other favorite people are ancient and anonymous *shakes fist at sky*

If that’s correct, that’s less than usual. It does support my theory that there are way less applicants than usual, and that’s why we’re hearing back so early.
-
Ssssssh, this never happened.
-
There will be more soon. I bet something will happen by Friday (if not tomorrow)
-
I’m sorry, hopefully the next college sees what this one didn’t.
-
Oh dear, the rejections from Ohio have begun via website. Good luck to all of you.
-
Anyone here responsible for the new poetry acceptance or waitlist at Ohio?
-
That’s probably my plan too, but I can’t be sure. I’ll definitely apply again next year if this year doesn’t go well.

Same! I love birds so much, especially weird birds like Pesquet’s parrot or Silkie chickens. Every time I look either up, I wheeze uncontrollably.
-
BAHAHA I’m wheezing “faceless monster”. I love it! They’re very sweet animals and are very broody so they take care of other bird eggs as if they were their own. They also have black bones. I wrote a poem about them.
-
I got it awhile ago but it still cracks me up.
-
Agreed. Also, I appreciate your adorable profile picture. I’m not sure if you can tell, but mine’s of a Silkie chicken.
-
For reference, Texas never asked me for official transcripts. I emailed the program and they only required RECENT transcripts (like, obtained within a one year timeframe), even if they were unofficial. Also, I get you’re angry, this new information I gave you probably made you more angry, but there’s no reason to attack someone else’s religious views when they’re being positive and reassuring. I get it, Christianity wasn’t for me either, but please be civil.

Honestly, whichever deck speaks to you.
