Hello! It's really exciting to see your post. I also applied for the IBSC program at Purdue but haven't received any update yet, would you mind to sharing some information about this program, e.g., when did you take the interview and did you contacted specific professor before applying? Thanks a lot!
Hi! I kind of "interviewed" at Purdue last winter as part of their Graduate Diversity Visitation Program, and was looking at Biochemistry/PULSE/IBSC and associated faculty, although I only interviewed with one faculty member in BME. I was accepted in early January and flew out last weekend for their interview weekend for students that were nominated for internal fellowships, so I got the chance to interview with a few more faculty members in the program! This was for both BME and IBSC students, but all the other prospectives I talked to were BME -- IBSC is much smaller in comparison. I am not sure if they have sent out all acceptances, or are waiting for the results of the fellowships to determine how many other offers to extend. Either way, best of luck!

Any word on UCSD BMS invites? Anyone know approximately how many more invites will be sent out through mid-February?
None here (((((:
I am considering emailing the adcomms, but I'm lowkey scared to because when I emailed the adcomm at UCSF I got rejected a day later
Random aside - I guess in 2013, UCSD BMS sent out waitlists/rejections at the end of January, so hopefully we will hear soon!
"I am writing on behalf of the Admissions Committee for the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program. Due to the overwhelming number of exceptional applications we received this year, we are unable to offer you an interview at this time. However, because you were ranked very near our cutoff, we would like to place your name on a short waiting list of qualified applicants.
This year the BMS program received over 300 applications for fewer than 30 places, so competition was fierce. The committee was impressed by your research and letters of reference and scored them highly. This score and your GPA and GREs are taken into account to generate the final ranking of students. Students are invited to interview according to their rank order. We are sorry we are unable to offer an interview to all qualified applicants, but we will add students to the interview pool from the waiting list if and when space becomes available. Based on previous years, it is likely that we may make further invitations from this waiting list, so there is still a possibility of a place in the BMS Program.
With your impressive background, I'm sure that you will receive offers from many other programs. If you decide to accept any of those offers, please contact the BMS Program so that we can take your name off the waiting list." -

Howdy everyone! I was recently accepted into UC Berkeley's chemistry program (yay!!) and my potential PI informed me that the stipend should be around $36,000. Is this a livable stipend for a year at Berkeley? It seems like too little to me but I was wondering if anyone else can chime in with their experience.
Also, if you have been accepted into Berkeley and will need a roommate please let me know :))
Thanks so much!
Same here! I can't answer for Berkeley specifically, but I find it to be a pretty decent offer as I'm currently surviving in SoCal on a similar yearly budget -- but the biggest costs for me are definitely tuition and rent.

Someone posted a rejection from UCSD BMS via the postal service?! Meanwhile my portal still says "Your application is complete and under review!" ((((:

Thoughts on whether MIT BE will send out any more invitations to interview? I applied to CSB as well, and they were supposed to release decisions today...but I guess not LOL

Hi guys!
I am a nervous reck because I have not heard from any of my schools yet and I don't know anyone that has applied for a PhD before, so I have no one to ask. Has anyone applied/heard back from the following schools? Do you have any info. on when we might get a reply?
Thank you....
- Johns Hopkins University BME
- Boston University BME
- University of Southern California BME
- UCB/UCSF Bioengineering
- Stanford Bioengineering
- Purdue BME
I applied to Purdue BME (through IDGP) as well. They asked for my official transcript today ASAP (oops), so I am guessing that they are working on reviewing apps and we should hear soon!

Congrats on your invite to UCSD BMS! Does it seem that they're still sending any invites out? (Crossing my fingers as this seems it's going to be my only chance to stay in CA lol)
-
UCSF CCB just dashed my hopes...top choice ?
-
I was offered an interview for Scripps FL campus. However, the only PIs and centers I mentioned interest in on my application are associated with the CA campus...There is one group in my area at the FL campus, but I'd imagine I would just be rejected if they don't have funding available. I've heard that other applicants were given an option between the FL and CA campuses, so this result almost seems like I was sent the wrong email template...
Would it be appropriate for me to ask the adcomms why this decision was made and if I am still eligible to interview at the CA campus? I am scared to do so because I feel this will indicate that I am inflexible and result in closing what is (so far) appearing to be the only option for me, but I also feel like I am setting myself up for failure.
-
Still waiting on UCSD too!
-
Interview invite from Scripps FL campus. Only mentioned faculty/stuff about the CA campus in my app, so I'm not sure why adcomm thinks I am a great fit for the FL campus lol
Still planning to attend, though! ? It's an amazing program but an invite from FL was super unexpected

Undergrad Institution: UC Santa Barbara
Major(s): College of Creative Studies (basically a small honors college separate from L&S) Biochemistry
Minor(s): N/A
GPA in Major: 3.8
Overall GPA: 3.8
Type of Student: Domestic, female/nonbinary, I think I'm technically considered a minority because I am disabled (?)

Any Miscellaneous Accomplishments that Might Help:- Stressed in my SOP that my "main" research project has been pretty much independent (PI runs upper-div biochemistry lab so he has no time to help most of the time)
- Lots of unofficial programming experience
- I was able to fit in 2 summer research "experiences" last summer by choosing a program that started while my school was still in session, then did a local program after the first program ended....and still did decently in my classes, so I'm hoping this will show the adcomms I have work ethic
Special Bonus Points:- Spoke to POIs in person due to diversity visitation programs at some universities
Any Other Info That Shows Up On Your App and Might Matter:- I accidentally ended up with 5 LORs because my PI decided he was going to submit his super late *sigh*

Might be because people are reporting their results under BME, but IBSC BME is a pretty small sub-population of BME. I was not assigned an advisor in the admissions letter, but had an assigned faculty host for the interview/visit. With regards to rotations, I'm pretty sure that there is no formal rotation system.
