  1. I didn't apply to Brown but if y'all don't want to be a bother for them I will call them later today about when they're releasing their admission results because I have no stock in this fight and have nothing to lose from doing this. (This is admittedly a half-joke but in all honesty if you haven't heard back via email I would call/ask an obnoxious person like myself to call if the thought of that gives you anxiety).
  2. Ran out of hearts to give but thank you so much ahhhh
  3. I believe that it is just a thing Cornell does. I talked to my Latin prof about it and he said his wife had the same thing happen to her from there (she applied to the Comparative Literature department and was instead offered admissions at Hispanic Studies)
  4. I was rejected from Cornell's Comparative Literature program but had my application forwarded to Medieval Studies and ROSE FROM THE ASHES LIKE A MF PHOENIX, LADIES AND GENTS WITH THAT ACCEPTANCE FROM THEM! Super thrilled about this offer even though I made the DGS uncomfy by sobbing on the phone at him when he told me.
  5. Idk who needs to hear this but my 19 year-old sister told me tonight that even though everything feels like it's coming down all at once that "you are in control of everything you are doing rn and that you are doing a good job" and felt inclined to share it with others because it made me feel tremendously better about everything here's to hoping for more good news for everyone tomorrow!
  6. Not sure quite -how- connected the admissions process is between the English and Comp. Lit. departments is at Columbia but my guess is that they release their decisions around the same time (their English program for sure usually notifies around this week historically). I also applied to Princeton and am a little skeptical of the acceptance on the board but regardless, it looks like the rejections typically come around this week as well. I didn't apply to NYU so I can't speak to when they release their picks but I hope that this helps console you a bit! Hopefully we both hear good news from these programs this week
  7. I applied to Cornell's Comp Lit program and figured that I had been rejected awhile back when I saw other folks get in but I was just emailed asking if I would be okay with the Medieval Studies program considering it and now I'm flipping out because I'm not sure where I stand or -how- good of a sign this is?!?!?!
  8. I have not but that sounds fascinating (to me at least lol). I'll see if I can get it from my library and do some reading over Spring Break
  9. Of course not! I'm a medievalist with an emphasis on classical reception
  10. I feel this so hard. My boyfriend and I are making (at the expense of sounding like a Southern stereotype) biscuits tonight so I can stress-eat my problems away on V-Day
  11. Out of reactions but congrats! What area are you in if you don't mind me asking? I was accepted there and will be talking to my POI next week but unless it goes very well I see myself turning down this offer.
  12. I know some people including myself still have nothing in their UCLA portal and wanted to share some comments one of my profs had about it. I told him what was up and said that I suspected someone was going through and manually updating them and that within a few days mine would just be a rejection but he suggested that some schools have an 'internal waitlist' where they won't tell you that you're on it but they have you on the hook just in case (isn't that fun?). Not sure if that's the case but it is something that happens apparently.
  13. Cornell's Comparative Literature program still hasn't updated the portals to reject/waitlist people (even though they started accepting people weeks ago), and while I think it's a bit irritating to have not heard back for so long it makes me appreciate programs that at least will respond to you quickly if you are waitlisted/rejected
  14. Idk if anyone else feels like this but my motivation to keep up with classwork and orgs has just plummeted since this semester has started. I finally got around to doing a horrific amount of laundry and feel a sense of self pride/dignity restoring but last week when I was in the thick of most of my decisions I kind of dropped the ball with some of my coursework. Thankfully I only have two programs left that haven't responded back yet to anyone (and quite frankly I'm not sure if I'll be getting into either) but it's nice like someone else was saying to be so close to the end of the application cycle. Good luck to everyone who still has a bunch of unknowns left to go through and try to take care of y'allselves in the meantime.
  15. Thanks! It's probably the top program in terms of prestige/rankings but my financial offer I got from them was the lowest of all my offers (nothing could be so simple with picking I guess) but I've been in touch with DGS and a grad student there to evaluate the funding offer better.
  16. Just found out I got into Indiana's Comparative Literature program! The email also had specific details about faculty I should message in my field/fellowship information so if you have not heard back yet I would say don't panic because they might just be waiting to email some people til they have all the funding details ironed out (this is just my speculation)
  17. @Glasperlenspieler I totally get that. I mostly made this because I know not all of us will get the opportunity to go on the campus tours and talk to the grad students at their prospective schools in person. I thought that if people wanted more in depth information from anyone who posted on here about their experience at a school that they would just DM them and ask more privately.
  18. I sure hope so, I'm starting to feel like applying to any Comp. Lit. programs at all was a mistake for my research focus and Indiana is the last of those programs I have yet to hear back from. Really should have listened to my medievalist profs over my classical studies profs on whether or not to try for a comp. lit. PhD but oh well
  19. I called Indiana and the woman on the phone said that decisions will probably be sent out this week if anyone else is waiting on them rn Edit: Looks like people are already being accepted (one was posted in the results page right after I called)
  20. If I don't here from Indiana's Comparative Literature program I'm gonna lose my damn mind
  21. Some of y'all might have seen this in the other thread but I made a doc for if any of y'all want to share the works in your field that really get you going that you would recommend to other people that aren't familiar with them. Please feel free to edit and leave a little comment (or none if you want) on your entries The link for it is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s6FpFX04Nz2mHm1aSal-zr-6VXEmWdQYt0ZjB8Wg3H4/edit?usp=sharing
  22. I made a doc that y'all can edit if you'd like for different books/sources that you really enjoy! I'll probably post it in the other thread about what people are reading and then just let it do its thing and not pester y'all about it unless someone asks for the link again. I only put primary sources because I didn't want to go overboard but y'all feel free to do either: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1s6FpFX04Nz2mHm1aSal-zr-6VXEmWdQYt0ZjB8Wg3H4/edit?usp=sharing Best of luck to everyone next week and try to get some sleep!
  23. So I know this thread is more about the application cycle in and of itself but would any of y'all be interested in making a google doc or something like that with a series of primary/secondary sources that y'all think are most important/entertaining for the field you're in? I have taken a grand total of 8 classes related to medieval lit (not even counting my Latin training) and only one class in another period of literature which was a fun-filled course on 20th century literary theory. I know there are some online lists compiled already but I'm curious what works made other people here want to study what they are studying and try to read through some of them during the summer.
  24. They sent a very generic email to check the portal which had a multi-page attachment about funding and such. I have no clue how many people they usually admit overall but I hope you hear back soon!
  25. I'm still up in the air about going to OSU's campus visit because money is kind of an issue. I'm in the awkward space where I could afford to go but then I'd be a few hundred dollars down which might not be so great down the line from now.
