  1. NYU sent out a mass email to everyone who was accepted yesterday (across all genres). To be completely frank (which I hope is helpful), the wording of the email seems to imply that everyone who was accepted received the email yesterday. Of course, I'm not omniscient here! And I have no idea where they are with waitlist notifications either. Best of luck to everyone!!
  2. There has only been one acceptance mentioned in Draft per genre as of right now, and I know NYU has a decent sized cohort. I think it's safe to assume there's still hope! Edit: there have now been two fiction, one CNF, and one poetry acceptance mentioned.
  3. I would add that CNF is often a form of storytelling. The author can sometimes be a 'character' in the traditional fiction-y sense of the word. Many of the principles that make for good fiction are also needed to make good CNF. In my experience, CNF places a premium on language (choosing words for their beauty/their effect on the reader/their aesthetic quality) that goes above and beyond pure journalism (not that word choice isn't also important in journalism. CNF is just more concerned with the artistic value of language and less worried about the need to be concise 100% of the time). All of this is super subjective. This is just my take on it (I'm a CNF applicant btw). Read some Leslie Jamison or Annie Dillard!
  4. Curious about opinions on this. I did a lot of research on *almost* every program I applied to. However, I didn't thoroughly look into the New School before applying and now that I've done some digging, I have some concerns. I get that it's private, doesn't offer enough funding, and has way higher acceptance rates than anywhere else. My question is, what's the reputation of the actual substantive quality of the program? Anyone know? All I can find online are people disgruntled with the price tag, and of course the New School's own website is hardly objective.
  5. Hey all! Just joined. Not sure if this helps anyone out, but if you're waitlisted at U of Minnesota, they'll tell you exactly what number you are on the list if you ask (I did). I'm not sure if this is the case with every program or just at some? This is my first time applying to MFAs!
