  1. Maybe I'm too much of an optimist, but I fully believe this "new normal" won't last for an entire 2 years. So whatever choice you make, remember that it doesn't just apply to fall semester of your first year, but your entire MSW experience.
  2. Hi, I'm not sure how many people are waitlisted at this school, but I know for Portland State the current offers have to respond by April 15th. Many waitlisted candidates would probably not hear back until some time after that.
  3. Hi everyone, FYI I got my scholarship info today and it was e-mailed directly to me, I didn't have to login to any portal.
  4. Hey all! I read that Portland State doesn't let you choose your practicum sites (even in the Advanced Year). Is anyone familiar with their process for how they match you to practicums then? Because my understanding from other schools I've talked to is that your match to a practicum 2nd year is a huge deal because often people end up working there after graduating while gaining licensure.
  5. Oh man, I feel... I personally have been leaning towards uprooting and moving somewhere new (Portland State is where I'm thinking too!!), but I've been told that if you're thinking of moving, remember that you possibly won't stay there for only 2 years, but likely will stay an additional 2 years or so when gaining licensure. Yes, you can get an MSW in one state and then move to another to get licensure, but employment is more difficult to come by before you are licensed, and often times people's first jobs after graduating are within the same network of people where they did their practicum sites in their advanced year. Then again, grad school is the perfect excuse to move. When else are you going to have that opportunity sitting right in front of you? PS I noticed you said you fell in love with Portland's program, and I'm trying to gain more information about it before making a final decision. If you have info on the program, please feel free to message me!
  6. Hi all!! I received my acceptance to Portland State's 2 year program. Is anyone familiar with the best ways to find roommates/housing? Also does anyone know any current students there?? Thank you!
  7. This is fantastic information thank you! I will try reaching out to admissions. Do you happen to know how much their clinical training focuses on evidence-based practices, especially for youth/families? (i.e. CBT for children/adolescents, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, etc).
  8. Ha I just told the person above that if your concern is climate, you may want to look for places to live that are relatively close by to bus stops because that way you can avoid walking through the rain. If you want to have a longer conversation you can PM me.
  9. UW students get a UPass which covers all public transportation for "free" (it's covered in your tuition/fees), so using public transport is smart. Unfortunately my answer for areas to look for housing are honestly as vague as "whatever you can find that doesn't cost a ton" because cost of living is... very high. Wallingford maybe? That's super close by. As far as coming from a warm climate, you may want to consider places that are close by to bus stops because you'll be using transport and don't want to walk too much in the rain/cold. Nobody uses umbrellas here, walking through the rain is just part of life! You can private message me if you want to have a longer conversation!
  10. Hey all, I did my undergrad at UW and currently work at UW Medicine. I got accepted into UW's MSW and was able to talk to some people I know/work with about the program in a lot of depth. If anyone is thinking about moving to the area and has questions, I could probably help out!
  11. I just heard back yesterday! They might be doing it in waves because they asked us to reserve a spot in the next 7 days to indicate interest. Do you know much about the school/program or are familiar with anybody who went? I can PM stats.
  12. Hi all, I recently got accepted into San Diego State University's MSW program. I'm weighing it against some other options and would love to know if anybody has more information on it, like if they know a current student/alum I could talk to. For context I'm also considering: University of Washington Portland State University University of Hawaii at Manoa Thank you!
  13. Hi all, I applied to this program for Fall 2020 but I don't know all too much about it. Does anyone have any connections to current students or alumni who would be able to answer programmatic questions?? I'm weighing it against some other options (for context, University of Washington, San Diego State, and University of Hawaii if anyone has information on those as well). Thanks!
