  1. I *think* if you want to accept an offer but also stay "in the running" for other schools, you have to select the "provisionally accept" option instead of the "firmly accept." When I firmly accepted my offer to UofT, my acceptance to Western turned into a "Declined: No further consideration." I would double check with ORPAS using SAM to be clear about these terms. Also, maybe consider contacting Dal or other ontario universities you were accepted to about how this works. Also, I do believe that by a certain date, provisional acceptances become firm acceptances - so maybe inquire about this as well as
  2. Hello! Personally, I don't think it matters at all! Its an accomplishment that you've worked extremely hard towards and one you should be proud of. I don't think sharing that news with friends/family online should be something one should feel shameful about doing
  3. I received a call as well but I missed it! I ended up firmly accepting my Uoft offer so I dont think Ill be hearing back
  4. I've been accepted to UofT and Western for their SLP programs!!! Congrats everyone. If any future applicants have any questions I'm happy to share info/stats I know I was lurking on this thread this time last year when I was planning to apply.
  5. Hey, I know you are referring to Dalhousie but on UofTs website they state you do not need an honours degree. That being said, I don’t think any of the schools require one nor would it make that much of a difference. I think programs generally put more weight on GPA and experience to inform their decisions but that’s just my humble opinion :)
  6. Wow! Amazing stats and congratulations. I am also in education and I also had the same concern of only psych/ling applicants getting in. This seems to be changing in more recent years which is amazing Speaking about education being the best foundation to SLP in your LOI is genius! I couldn't agree more and hearing your statement, I wish I emphasized that even more than I did in my own LOI haha. I only applied to Ontario schools so I am anxiously waiting to here back on April 1st but I am happy to see a fellow educator accepted into SLP! All the best
  7. I would say yes. I can recall from a previous forum someone who didn't get an acceptance asked what they could do to improve their application and the response from the admissions was to increase the prerequisite grades.
  8. I can remember from the forum last year that there were some people who got in with a sGPA in the 3.7's but I am not 100% sure if they got into UofT and/or Western. I do know someone who got into UofT for Fall 2020 with an sGPA in the 3.7's. Edit: I wouldnt necessarily say this is a cut off though! I'm not sure if the schools have a cut off as long as you meet their other requirements.
  9. ME. Ill literally catch my hands shaking throughout the day. I think its a combination of waiting for grad school and the world transitioning back to normal but we just gotta breathe it out and take it day by day
  10. Thats amazing! Did you need a CDA certificate to become an SLPA? Could you elaborate more on the differences in roles between CDAs and SLPAs?
  11. I see, nope I havent received anything like that. But I did get one from Western regarding setting up an account a while back. It's possible that UofT doesn't send one? As long as you got the ORPAS confirmation of the application I wouldn't worry Maybe a current Uoft student or past applicant can confirm?
  12. A confirmation email for what? I didn't know that we'd get any communication for UofT until April 1st.
  13. Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone could confirm that the UofT requirement for a mid-B standing in the last 5 full course equivalents means an overall average of 75% in those last 5 full/10 half courses? (not a minimum 75% in each?).
  14. Does anyone know when UofT and Western release their decisions on April 1st? I heard that Western is right at midnight but UofT can be a couple hours afterward. Can any past applicants confirm?
  15. Hey, I did notice the interview subheading on the UofT admissions page for SLP. I'm not sure if that was added to the website this year or if I just haven't noticed it in past years. Based on what the website says, it doesn't seem like they will be interviewing all applicants. I also feel like we would've heard some sort of larger announcement by now (i.e. via email) if those are their intentions. This is just my interpretation though! I guess we'll have to wait and see
  16. Thank you! This was really helpful It's interesting to hear some of the programs have similar labs. I'm also really glad that UofT has a component on parent training.
  17. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond so thoroughly! This definitely gives a really clear idea of what the clinical/lecture components look like at Western. It actually sounds really fun. Do you find that the group work flows well in the program? I feel like we can all relate to those awkward breakout rooms on zoom where no one wants to talk / have all had our fair share of difficulties with group work. Though, I do feel like it would be different during Masters programs because everyone has worked so hard to get in and are very passionate.
  18. Thank you for the information! May I ask what the labs at UofT usually look like? Are they similar in format/activities to what @CCSLP94 mentioned above which seems very hands on and collaborative? For easy reference, CCSLP94 said (copy and pasted): "Usually within the labs we are split into smaller groups of ~4 to work and then have a big group discussion at the end (depending on the topic of the lab). A lot of the classes do involve case scenarios but we do other stuff as well. For Anatomy and Physiology labs you would typically be going to the cadaver lab to learn about the different structures being discussed in class (since we were online when I took this class, we watched videos of the professor interacting with the cadavers instead). For Developmental Language Disorders, we had a few labs where we practiced administering and scoring language assessments. We had Audiology labs where we practiced giving each other hearing screenings."
  19. Hey! Thank you so much for responding When you say "labs" how do those typically work and how do they differ from the co-op experiences? Are they smaller classes with "Case study" type questions?
  20. You're welcome! I just spoke to a 2021 UofT SLP graduate and she said it was just one cohort. Maybe some current UofT SLP students could shed some light on the learning experience with 60 students in a class because that does seem like a large class but also not unbearable. Does anyone know the Western University class size for SLP? (I know they accept 50 people, but wondering if classes get split into two groups of 25?)
  21. UofT stated on this website: https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-toronto/#slp that they will admit 60 students to SLP for 2022. Also on this website: https://www.ouac.on.ca/guide/orpas-program-requirements/#toronto It says there were 337 applicants for UofTs SLP program last application cycle. You can also find information for Western and other ontario rehabilitation science programs using those links
  22. The programs I applied to mention 20 half courses/10 full courses so I'm not sure how to answer for credits or if credits are even relevant to the application process. Sorry! However, in my experience, the internship course which was a pass or fail grading got entered into my sGPA as a grade of 0 (odd because 1. ORPAS states they do not usually include internships in the calculation and 2. It was put as a 0 as if I failed but I didn't). After I mentioned on SAM that the course was an internship that I did indeed pass, it was removed completely from my ORPAS calculation and I no longer see that course listed. Hope this helps!
  23. Hey, those courses are not supposed to be included and I would bring it up to SAM as we have till February 16th (i think) to report any changes that need to be made. Here is what it says on the website: I had the same issue where my internship was included as a 0 (it was a pass/fail course which I passed so the 0 was weird haha). It brought my GPA WAY down. They were able to fix it within 2 days of me contacting using SAM when I messaged them last week while the GPAs were momentarily available. This may take longer now as based on the request number (i.e. of my request last week and another request this morning) it seems like they've gotten a couple hundred SAM messages since then.
