  1. Thanks for the clarification! Do you know where we would find the copy of the transcript once its received?
  2. So does this mean that it wont say "received" on ORPAS until we submit the entire application?
  3. Is there a specific way we should be inputting prerequisites that are not on Western University's pre-approved prerequisites list? I spoke to Janet before enrolling in the courses and got approval from her but I'm not sure if there's any additional steps I need to complete on ORPAS.
  4. Oh great to know! I also assumed the first two were academic and last one was professional/personal. Just to be safe I made sure to put "SLP" in the position section and the SLP's Clinic but im sure theyll be able to tell who is who based on the content of the letters.
  5. I emailed Janet about this and she said that SLP's are allowed to fill out the professional/personal reference form as long as its from a professional/personal stand point and not a student clinician standpoint.
  6. Im a first time applicant so i'm not 100% sure but I think the referees get emailed all the information they need to fill out those forms/input the required information, letter, etc once you send the email through ORPAS. There is also a sample academic reference and confidential assessment form on Western's website: https://www.uwo.ca/fhs/csd/programs/files/ORPAS_sample_reference.pdf
  7. Thank you! Perhaps its just an extra measure to make sure people aren't faking their references. I've never heard about referees being mailed anything.
  8. Why does ORPAS need our referees addresses? Will materials be sent to them? One of my references lives in France but has a relative in Canada she gets a lot of her mail sent to so I was wondering which address would be best to put in. Or if this information is generally not that important and if either one would be okay.
  9. For the transcript request it asks for transcript timing. If you are currently enrolled (e.g. graduating in April) do you select "end of term" instead of "immediately" ?
  10. For those who have applied in the past: Is it okay to use your statement of intent for one school for another? Of course I would make some changes to match the different requirements but I'm wondering if ORPAS has some sort of plagiarism system and if this would make it ding.
  11. Thank you so much! Would you feel comfortable sharing your stats? Did they change from the 1st and 2nd time you applied from the 3rd?
  12. I think McMaster's 3.9 will either go slightly higher or lower. It's hard to tell. I do think that online school played a big role in increasing the cut off, maybe with a lot of school going back to in-person this semester that will bring it down? As for UofT and Western, I'm not sure how the GPA's differed but Western did get A LOT more applicants than UofT last application cycle. Also Western puts a lot more value on all aspects of the application whereas I think UofT puts more emphasis on sGPA. Recalling from last years thread I remember there were some people who got in with sGPAs in the 3.7's but I dont remember for which schools.
  13. I emailed Janet from Western and she said that the personal reference could be from an SLP but it had to be from a professional standpoint and not a student clinician standpoint. Personally, I think its best to get one from an SLP because it shows you were able to build a great and professional relationship in a clinical setting. Based on what Janet said, I would just make sure the SLP writing the letter knows to include a professional standpoint. It does kind of suck that she said "not a student clinician standpoint" because that is a large and detailed part of what SLPs could write about those of us who did get SLP related volunteer experience.
  14. All good. I think you go into account settings then signature should be in there. Yes, McMasters cut off last year was insane!! But I wish you luck and hope you get an acceptance this round
  15. LOL me too. I'm just so excited to apply. I hope thats the case and I can keep all of them! I have started said, "master" document and have already edited and edited/changed my SOI about 500 times LOL. I see that you're applying to all the schools I want to, do you have a preference / reasons for applying to each? I am still unsure if I will apply to McMaster but definitely will to UofT and Western and would love to hear other applicants reasons for choosing to apply to those schools. My top choice is UofT and kinda just applying to Western to not put all eggs in one basket but it seemed like last year Western was more difficult to get into.
  16. Thank you so much for your response and the heads up on the character count on section 2! I had no idea and have just been typing so much to elaborate on each experience. Nice to know things may have to be condensed. I have over 10 volunteer experiences so kinda worried about how I’m gonna make this work with a word count lol
  17. I had a question more directed to people applying for their second time/people already in the program. I noticed there are 2 sections for the UofT statement of intent: Section 1 being the actual letter and section 2 being a list of experiences with information about each. Is section 2 a new addition to the application or is this something I just missed many times in the past lol. Also are both sections something we copy and paste into ORPAS or do we upload as a pdf?
  18. Hi everyone! As a long time reader of the past years threads, I am so excited to finally be applying! This will be my first time applying and I plan on applying to U of T and Western. I am confident in my application but I am a little nervous because I have no research experience (i.e. Research assistant/working in a lab). I do however have 3 research courses under my belt and both my references will be from my research professors. Is anyone else applying with no research experience or knows anyone who has gotten accepted to either of these schools without research experience? Good luck to everyone and I am happy we can all support each other through this thread
  19. Hello! Future applicant here. Out of curiosity, was there still a place on the application to input volunteer experiences/ the amount hours or duration of the experience, even though the requirement was waived? The requirement is also waived for 2022 admission. I am still obtaining volunteer hours and am wondering if its even worth it at this point or if I should just free up my time and enjoy summer.
  20. Thank you for your response! Do the referees get an outline of points to hit for their letters or do they have full freedom and just upload prior to deadline? Any tips on topics I should let my referees be aware of? Also, when can you begin your application on ORPAS (September before application deadline?) and how does that whole process work?
  21. Hello! Could any former applicants let me know how the references work on ORPAS? Is it a letter that we (applicant) or the references upload? Is it a portal in which references are prompted to log in and answer a specific set of questions? Is it both a letter and portal type questionnaire? How early would you recommend contacting references? Any other recommendations for selecting references/making the process smoother for us applicants and our references? TIA!
  22. Hi everyone! First of all I wanted to say congratulations to those who have gotten accepted and send positive spirits to those who have been rejected and are thinking of ways to improve their application for next year! Regardless of where you stand, you have all worked so hard and all through a PANDEMIC. You should be extremely proud of yourselves for making it through the application process/anxiety of waiting! I will be applying to UofT and Western for 2022 and was wondering if anyone who has been accepted to these schools could share their stats? (sGPA, SLP clinical hours, other volunteer hours, research, etc). It would be greatly appreciated! Feel free to respond or shoot me a private message ?
