I had reached out using SAM to inquire about a couple things wrong with my GPA. They said what was shown earlier today was only briefly available for testing and to check back early next week for the information to be officially available.- 1,373 replies

Thank you so much for your response! That was my thought process so I did apply to UofT and Western (despite not receiving an explicit yes from UofT). I just wanted to post to see if anyone else was / knew someone who was in my position who could provide a little reassurance I'd love to hear your thoughts on the UofT SLP program as that is my first choice.- 1,373 replies

I was wondering if anyone on the forum (either current students or applying) knows of any bridge program students (i.e. students who obtained a university degree by completing 2 years of college then 2 years of university) who have been accepted to SLP programs in Ontario? I was told by Western they have accepted students who have obtained a degree this way in the past, but I still fear that despite what I think is a competitive application, this will cause admissions to maybe look at my application differently? I included the downloaded syllabi for all my prerequisites on SAM under the "course descriptions" category, as well as the links in the prerequisite section just to be safe but I'm not sure if uploading to SAM is actually necessary. I also asked Janet (Western U) about previously approved prereqs (i.e. via email) that were not on the pre-approved prereq list. She said to upload screenshots of the email from when I got the approval to SAM. I just titled them all "coursecode_PrerequisiteApprovalEmail" to make it as clear as possible for the admissions committee. Hope this helps- 1,373 replies

For those who are applying to Western and UofT for SLP: are you submitting the optional CV to Western? If you are, are you going to send it to UofT as well? (i.e. through SAM). I thought about doing this but just realized it says in bold "Do not upload any document not on this list" so I'm not sure if thats a bad idea or a harmless little "shoot my shot" haha.- 1,373 replies

No I am not submitting a resume. I am referring to the personal submission of volunteer experiences. It says "Entries will be sorted chronologically (most recent first) within each category." But I'm not sure if that means regardless of how we enter it, ORPAS will somehow sort it, or if we should enter them chronologically ourselves. Also I was able to find some answers the question I posted so Im going to post it here in case anyone else has the same issue I believe it should be chronologically organized by end date- 1,373 replies

Does ORPAS organize the volunteer experiences in the correct order for you? Im not sure if the most recent to least recent order should be by the start date or end date. I have overlapping dates for volunteer experiences so I'm a little confused what to do. For example I have one volunteer experience that went from April 2021-September 2021, but another that went from January 2021-October 2021. I'm not sure which would be considered most recent.- 1,373 replies

Thank you for your opinion I feel like he is definitely more recognized in the audiology community. He also is affiliated with McMaster but, with Western being a little further away I'm not sure if they'd know of him.- 1,373 replies

Hey everyone! I was wondering if you could give me advice on a small detail for my SOI. I recently found out the head of the research lab I work for is affiliated with the SLP program at UofT (so amazing!) I decided to swap out “I work at ____ university’s auditory research lab” with “I work at __professors name’s__ auditory research lab” do you think I should make this same swap in my SOI for western (I.e. professors name instead of my university’s name)? The head of the lab has done some really important work in the field of SLP/Aud so it could definitelty be an advantage in my application that I work alongside him but I’m not sure if this will be weird if the faculty at Western have never heard of him.- 1,373 replies

Not sure which schools/programs you are referring to but at Westerns program preview day for SLP/AUD they spoke about this. They said it was not required but we have the option to attach one to your application. This is something new they added- 1,373 replies

Hey everyone, I thought I'd make a little post about Western's program preview day today for anyone who may have missed it but is still interested in Western for SLP/Aud. Most of the information provided was on the program websites, but it was lovely to see the director of communication sciences and also have a Q&A session with students who are in their first and second years in the programs. I think the main shocker to me was that there is a mandatory cadaver course. So, you will have to take a course which uses human specimens from individuals who are deceased and have donated these body parts for science. I had no idea about this and I know some people may find this unsettling so I wanted to mention that here to give a heads up. The students during the Q&A portion said that it is normal to feel uncomfortable and you work through it together as a group- 1,373 replies

Hey, I just looked and my prerequisites show up as "Entered" in the personal submissions tab but when I click on it, it still gives me the option to add more as well. I wouldn't worry about it if yours says "entered" and you've included all the prerequisites under the correct categories but you could always try asking SAM as well.- 1,373 replies

Hello! I'm wondering if we are allowed to put work experience in the volunteer experience section. I have work experience in an auditory research lab, tutoring and working with children in various settings. I feel like this is relevant to the profession of SLP and would love to include it on my application but I'm not sure if I would be penalized for this. TIA- 1,373 replies

The character count includes spaces. The second section is only 150 characters for the description I believe (You can go on ORPAS and check under the personal submission --> volunteer experience). Hope this helps!- 1,373 replies

Hey Thank you so much for this! I actually have only taken 4 courses most of my semesters since I have co-op which doesn't count towards the GPA & have taken summer courses. Do you know if they would take an average of your most recent semester, average of least recent semester, or an average of a full year (e.g. all of 3rd year if you're applying in 4th year since we're not done the winter semester yet).- 1,373 replies
