It's 3:00 pm here near D.C. Government workdays *can* be a little strange - I used to work 5:30 - 2:00 pm. The 7:30 - 4:00 pm day was very popular with people.
Huh. Odd. That's kinda early still. I guess I can't do math though. Somehow I calculated now+1 = 3:00

One hour left for the Systems Plus workday!
They leave at 3:00?

Sorry I meant that bar thing at the top that says 2020

edit: No rudeness intended. Sorry. That's just where it was first noticed.

I wasn't a computationalist before the quarantine, but I am now apparently. Managed to learn how to use STAR CCM+ relatively quickly for lots of CFD, only to learn that our lab group wants to start switching to Fluent...
My group does combustion, fuels, engines, etc. so we use Converge CFD. It's been an interesting learning curve. I went from project engineer using SW for pipes and the occasionally low-quality duct flow simulation, to jet fuel combustion lab research, to CFD, in less than a year. What a ride.

Pays to be a computationalist
Sure does right now. I've got some spray burner simulations running in support of my lab work that I can work on but those take forever to run. I was hoping to get the NSF grant so I could get XSEDE access to run those.

The next huge question I have is.... What do we do with all this free time when we're not constantly refreshing webpages?
Easy. Drink beer and work on our research (except the poor bastards like me who don't have enough data yet to do anything with and are locked out of their labs).

Still stands that it would be a grossly impolite thing to not release it today. Anyone want to email robert?
It's only a little after noon on the coast, and they are clearly doing something - I think we should see how today plays out.

Let's make a rule similar to that of imageboards: pics or it didn't happen
Seconded.

Also still under eval. Curious to hear from thel or SFS; they are the two non-lurkers to get 4/13 updates.

Protoss almost exlusively. I'm just getting back into regular matches, haven't played in eons. I normally just play squadron tower defense or Mafia in the arcade section.
I'm silver 1 at my absolute best with terran so no terrible threat. LeadJunkie#1170

My guess is that it definitely means the dates in April don't have any real meaning. It's still possible that earlier dates could have meaning (i.e. those who made it past the first review panel and into the DoD reviews).
I also don't believe that SysPlus is just blaming the DoD for their slowness. Call me naive, but I don't think that they'd just try to shuffle off blame on someone else just because they can. It would be very easy for anyone in the know at the DoD to clap back at that and call them out later on.
Best guess? We'll be waiting a while yet If anyone wants to play some SCII or League of Legends let me know!
You play SC2? Race/league? I'm down

Based on what I saw here
on slide 36 it says that the fellowship class is announced on May 4th.
So if they need 14 days of buffer, the last day they would send out emails is next Monday.
We may have a bit of a wait still.
That is a gold mine! I'd buy you a beer if I could.

Fingers crossed for tomorrow I guess?
Guess so. It's COB now on the east coast and we're no more enlightened today.

Totally understand. If someone wants a cc, I can send. just pm me an email.
Honestly, I'd more lean towards the "CYA" theory of their reply to you. I've worked with them before, and I absolutely wouldn't put it past them.
-
Or they're just saying that to get us to shut up and leave them alone, which is also quite plausible...

I'd argue that it means nothing for the dates in general, if they don't know who won then why would they be updating the decisions?
Good question. Maybe they know the finalists and are getting every finalist set up so that they can easily activate the acceptance forms for whoever the DoD picks? It's what I would do if I didn't know who actually won. Also, this is taken with a grain of salt because we don't know the veracity of alcoholistic's report (no offense), or whether SysPlus is just covering their asses by blaming the DoD for their own delays.

Emailed the PMO and got a message from the NDSEG saying "I don't have any further information available. The DoD hasn't released the decisions, and I cannot promise the time they will release. We will get them out as soon as possible after they release the decisions."
My guess is the ARO, specifically anything decision science/math related is probably the hang-up as they are working crazy hours for COVID response.
Man, if even SysPlus doesn't know who won, that sure as hell puts a nail in the coffin of our "the dates mean something" theory, at least for the different dates in April.

No, I'm sure that dude is just laughing his invisible head off. "I don't need to condemn grad students to hell. They do it to themselves!"
