In other news I got waitlisted by SLU literally this morning. Idk what took so long. Still hoping I get off the waitlist into UNC, but if that doesn't happen I'll probably go to FSU. Hard choices

Turning down my waitlist at Cincinnati sometime today or tomorrow. I hope that helps some of you! Now I'm just waiting for some of you Arizona and UNC folks to decline haha

Not something I've heard of for waitlisted people. Hard to say how it could affect your chances. Obviously, if it goes horrendously then that could hurt you, but I don't know how much a positive meeting would help you either.

Do not pursue philosophy as a career if you would not be happy teaching it at a community college someday. Professor jobs at R1 universities are very, very, very difficult to attain and the job market only gets worse every year. However, if you're a crazy person like me, then the other people are right -- sounds like an MA Philosophy is the way to go. Funded would be great, but those are few and far between. If you could swing the MA, that could bolster your CV substantially, especially if you don't have much philosophical education already in-hand.

Could go either way. I've made it my own policy to assume rejection in cases like this and let myself be pleasantly surprised if I'm wrong.

Just got waitlisted by Arizona this morning. If they pull through I'll definitely decline Baylor and FSU.

Welp I got rejected by Virginia and Duke, which sucks. Meanwhile Chapel Hill waitlisted me. Pretty stoked about that! Hopefully a few decide to go elsewhere---UNC is a top school for me. All of that makes the count: 2a/1w/5r/10p. Considering I was sure I'd get shut out I'd call this a victory so far.

Nothing yet. Also waiting. Meanwhile haven't heard a peep from Duke ?

I have the same issue with 3 or 4 other schools I applied to. Some have hidden waitlists, which is just to say that you might not have been outright rejected, but you may be low enough on the waitlist that a school is reluctant to inform you thereof. Hard to know what may be going on otherwise. Every program is different.

An update: Just got an offer from Florida State this afternoon. Three rejections from Northwestern, Chicago, and Wisconsin-Madison, respectively. I'm stunned that I wasn't shut out. Very excited that I'll have a choice between Baylor and FSU. Hoping for more! 2a/0w/3r/13p
