  1. I had an application dream last night as well! I got into one of my schools, but then I was mute so I could not tell anyone I had gotten in. And my fingers stopped working so I couldn't accept. Strange.
  2. Finished mine last week and all my letters have been sent off as well!! Fingers crossed and prayers (for those who believe in them and want them) for all!
  3. Is anyone opting to take the GRE at all this year? Or is it just highly irrelevant and unnecessary to even attempt to send scores to schools?
  4. Just for anyone who is curious - the issue is resolved! Apparently they had some kind of technological issue where the GSAS option wasn't displaying on the application portal, but it should be fixed now for everyone!
  5. So the UVA Master's in English application was supposed to open today, according to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences website. I can't access it, and (this is a long shot) but I was wondering if anyone else had trouble with it? I emailed the designated director of admissions and got no reply. I'm just confused and want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong?
  6. It seems to me that Southern Lit is taken more seriously in the South! For example, Ole Miss has the Center for Study of Southern Culture. Big state schools such as UGA or LSU also have a lot of professors who focus in the literature of the region they're in. If there's a specific author you're interested in - say Chopin or Poe - look to the cities they called home and the schools in that area, such as New Orleans (Tulane, LSU, etc) or Charleston (USC, CofC, the Citadel) to find professors who focus on those authors.
  7. Do certain parts of the application matter more? Like the personal statement versus the CV?
  8. @WildeThing Thank you! I like to hope that schools want to give everyone opportunity, but with all the financial issues COVID has caused in the past year, I worry that an applicant's financial status will be given more weight than it ever should.
  9. Does not needing funding or money make schools more likely to accept you? Even if they claim financial status doesn't affect applications? *not coming from a place of privilege, but just curious if this makes an impact*.
  10. For most M.A. English programs, an academic writing sample of 15-25 pages. Would most programs be okay with 2 samples that add up to 15-25 pages? Or do they really just want one 15 page sample?
