  1. Hello. I applied to Columbia Systems Biology which is part of CMBS. Got a rejection. I emailed the program coordinator and got a reply saying unfortunately I'm not chosen. Have yet to receive the official rejection from the school itself.
  2. I have a strong feeling this will be me. Haha! Anyway I plan on getting research assistant positions for two years. I'm in no rush and I want to really, really be sure first in my own capabilities. Like this cycle, I know I want to get a PhD but I'm not too confident of my skills and fit and all that jazz. Learn a lot from this experience though. The only thing is that I'm way past the OPT application (graduated 2020) so I might need to apply for H1-B which I doubt will get much support ($$$) or look for RA positions in the UK, Canada, etc. My country has no opportunity for biomedical research in the topic of my interest so I don't think I'll be able to move forward if I were to stay here any longer.
  3. Just received a rejection from NYU Vilcek. I think I'm going to get rejected from all schools. Que sera sera ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
  4. Yea, I'm assuming rejection from UChicago too. Looks like they've sent out all interview invites. Also, unrelated, but I like your username!
  5. Hi! Where on the portal did you see the result? Mine just has confirmation of my documents, application and fee.
  6. Hi! Has anyone heard back from Boston U, NYU Vilcek, UMich PIBS and UChicago Biosciences?
  7. Just received rejection from UNC BBSP. Congrats to those who got invites!
  8. Hi! I'm also an international applicant and still waiting to hear back from all programs that I applied to. So far, I've just been doing and trying a lot of hobbies - sewing, crocheting, making videos, cooking, baking, gardening. Since you mention you want to improve your English and academic research, maybe you can start a blog and write about biomedical science. It'll improve both your writing skills and integrating information (which is important in research). Good luck!
  9. Hi! I am a Master's student at UMich. When I was applying, my personal statement was so much more different than my statement of purpose. My SOP focused on previous research I've done and my experience in the field I'm applying for. It's closely related to my CV but with more content to it. Whereas my PS was something along the lines of, "I am passionate about science and I want to be a scientist" kind-of tone. I think the prompt for the PS does a good job at distinguishing the two - "This [personal statement] is not an Academic Statement of Purpose, but a discussion of the personal journey that has led to your decision to seek a graduate degree." Hope that helps!
