Yes, I had success with appealing to Columbia! I sent their financial aid office a pretty extensive email detailing my financial situation, how much I would be able to contribute in exact numbers, and how much I would need from them to be able to commit. They then had me fill out a form online (as did Penn, though I haven’t heard back from Penn yet). Ultimately my sense is that what made the biggest difference was my competing offer from Michigan, because the number that Columbia ultimately offered was exactly the same as Michigan; they matched it. The offer went up from $36K (for two years) to $50K after the appeal.

Feel free to DM if you have any follow up questions!

THANK YOU! This was so helpful, I've been lost where to even start. Congrats on Columbia and with the appeal, that is amazing!!!

Has anyone who got into NYU successfully appealed for a larger scholarship?

It seems like it should be an option, and NYU makes it fairly easy for undergrads to appeal for more money, but I'm having a tough time finding out how to do it for grad programs / Silver.

Would love advice on this as well, struggling with the same thing.

Oh awesome! Are you in the group me? we can private message there if you'd like! I am still narrwoing down what I think the best program would be. I think maybe the direction I want would need a -macro focus.

@MSW.K @sweetater hi both!! just read through your comments thought I'd give my two cents!  I am considering NYU and HOPEFULLY will be admitted to columbia soon and be in the same boat! I  also did my undergrad in nyc  so can help if yall have questions about NY. as far as the programs go, i've also heard columbia is better for macro and nyu is more clinical but IMO, kind of feel like that is outdated because it seems like you can cater each program more to what you want to focus on through electives etc. field placements are probably very similar, so I don't think that carries too much weight for me in differentiating the two. i can't remember how columbia does field placements - I know NYU basically chooses yours the first year and you have more say the second year. Would love if you know about columbia's process bc i think field placement is super important and i have heard that a lot of first year students at NYU aren't thrilled w how it's worked out. aside from that - both also have incredible faculty and almuni network but maybe one program has better resources for what you are interested in than another? like a research lab or specific faculty member you want to work with /learn from? then of course, the $$$.   to be completely honest though, i don't think one program is significantly better than another enough to go further into debt.  sorry this is so long hahaha but would love to hear your thought processes for making your decision/ any tips from anyone else on this thread!!

Same! I really thought I would've heard by now and it's making me super anxious. I feel like it has to be soon though because Feb. 15 is President's Day so their office is probably closed... so I think by the end of next week we should've hopefully heard

Ugh sorry youre in the same boat but also glad to know I'm not the only one. I attended so many information sessions this year and I could have sworn they said 6-8 weeks if you apply by the priority deadline. I guess they don't include the time it takes to go under review? good luck though and def post if you hear anything next week!

I got in on January 13th. I received an email saying admissions made a decision and to check it on the portal. I received the email around 2:45 PST. I applied around November 22nd. I expressed interest in the advanced clinical sw practice, and the dual MPH program. Luckily got into Mailman’s population and family health department too. I don’t want to look at where I might live though until I get financial aid packages lol. I’m waiting to hear back from Boston U, UC Berkeley and UT Austin. Looks like these school don’t start releasing decisions until February though :(

hey!! oof. I applied to the dual in pop fam too!!! AHH I am so jealous and eager to hear back. If you don't mind can you share stats? and congrats again!!

Hey! Heard back from Columbia and was accepted. Did you hear back from them as well?

Omg, CONGRATS!! I found another forum and heard people are getting their acceptances!! I haven't heard anything and no changes to my portal. I've been checking my email like crazy. What time did you hear back? So exciting :)

    Hi there!

I applied to MPH programs in Epidemiology or Epidemiology/Biostatistics at Berkeley, Columbia, WUSTL, and UMich. I've been accepted at UMich and have not yet heard back on the others.

I also applied to MS programs at Harvard and Drexel and PhD programs at Harvard, BU, Brown, NYU, JHU, and UNC. No word on any of those either.

Hey!! Congrats on acceptance to Michigan. We overlap with Columbia, although I applied to the Population and Family health. Also applied to NYU, UCLA, USC, Brown. Was hesitant with UMich...maybe I will. Also considering BU! Anyway, good luck- let me know when you hear back! Super eager to hear from Columbia.

I sent my application on December 28th I believe and they emailed me on January 5th saying my application is complete. I'm thinking that I didn't get in now... @OrangeJuice14 When did you hear back from NYU if I may ask? I heard they're pretty fast with sending acceptances.

Yes I was shocked with the quick turn around. I heard back on the 13th. I wouldn't be too worried, after reading through forum's from past years it seems like its a mixed bag on when admissions decisions are sent out. I totally feel your eagerness though, but try not to stress, I'm sure you'll hear back this week. Also, for what it's worth, I know a lot of admissions offices were closed during the holidays, so I'm sure applications sent in between Dec 23- Jan 4 are lumped in with the batch sent in early Jan. Good luck I hope you hear good news soon!

  9. @MSWCY Of course, and thank you so much! I applied on January 5th. They emailed saying there was an update to my portal, and I saw the admissions decision there. A couple days later they sent an email saying congrats on getting accepted etc. If it makes a difference, I applied as a full time on campus student. Good luck to you!

Hey @OrangeJuice14 ty! congrats to you too. I thought I was gonna hear from other programs yesterday too lol. As far as columbia, I applied on November 19th. They sent me an email saying that their decision was ready to view on the app portal. They sent me this around 2:45 PST.

gotchaa! I applied Dec 1 so guessing I'll have a couple more weeks of waiting, good to know. thanks for the info, good luck with the rest of your apps!

Congrats to you as well! I am not too sure, hopefully within the upcoming weeks we hear something.

heyy! @aqueeroz @ColeMSW congrats to you both! if you don't mind me asking- when did y'all apply, and did they email you or did it come up in the portal? also did you hear about the two year campus? I thought id hear this week but nothing!!!! I did hear an acceptance from NYU though :D ! anyway LMK very eager

Yes I applied for Fall 2021 on campus 2 year program. I must have submitted the application sometime in October or November. I have not decided yet. I applied for a Coverdell Fellowship as a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer and I have yet to hear back about that decision! Hopefully I'll have made a decision in a month or 2.

Hope that helps and good luck to you!

Gotcha. I applied to CSSW on Dec 1st, so I am hoping to hear back later this month or early February. Good luck with the fellowship!

Hi there. I heard back from Columbia about 2 weeks ago with an acceptance decision. Hope that this helps!

Ah, totally! Congrats, how exciting! Did you apply for Fall 21 on campus 2 year program? If so, when did you apply? Thanks so much :) Have you decided where you're going yet?

Whoa 4 weeks - where’d you hear this? That would be awesome if they got back to us that soon but it seems like (at least from the old forums) that mid feb to late feb is the usual time ppl get their decision. I feel your eagerness though!!

I attended a lot of info sessions the last few weeks with Columbia and they said they will try to get out the responses to applications submitted by Dec 1  in 4-6 weeks:)

Thank you so much! Good luck!
Have you already applied? I applied for Spring initially but they said the classes were full so they extended their offer to Fall. My gpa from my English degree was 3.15 and the gpa from my psychology studies was 4.0. I also have work experience in teaching and tutoring. What are your stats like? Will you apply to other schools? Are you looking into online or on site?

I have not applied yet, hoping to apply for Fall 2021 and meet the Dec 1 deadline! I am applying for on site. My cumulative was a 3.2 and my major 3.7. I have pretty good work/volunteer experience, so I'm really hoping I hear good news.
