  1. I interviewed on Friday and there were EdS applicants too.
  2. Thank you! I tried to find areas that had a school social work program for my fiance, somewhere we wanted to live, a school psych program with research/career interests matching mine, and somewhere we'd be willing to live. It was hard to find programs like that that also had good track records on funding. Hope you get into NAU's program! Combined programs I hear offer great perspectives and opportunities for broad career interests.
  3. For one of the interviews I did that. But for some of them I just had my questions on my keyboard so I could just look at one screen instead of two. My long interview was the worst one. It started at 9:00 and ended at 7 pm. (I had several breaks throughout the day none longer than 45 minutes). I’m just happy that of the 4 programs I’ve interviewed with Wisconsin and Buffalo are my #1 and 2. My fiancé already got accepted into the MSW program at Buffalo so I’m crossing my fingers I get good news from at least Buffalo. Still holding out that we both get good news for Wisconsin! I wish the best of luck to anyone dealing with external factors influencing their decisions.
  4. I had 4 interviews this week (I am jealous of February interviews because I wanted mine to be spread out). These last two days I've had 3 separate program interview days and it has been exhausting. Make sure to drink plenty of water, eat and take some time to relax between interviews. Hope you don't have so many back to back like I did. The most difficult question that I had honestly was "How would you convince a coworker to change something that you disagreed with" Most of the rest weren't hard because of my preparation beforehand but I would definitely practice some common questions beforehand so that you don't stumble. The virtual part was better for me because I could kind of have a question list on my keyboard and not look like I was reading off it during the interview. Best of luck on your interviews!
  5. Hi SchoolPsychYogi! I shared one earlier on in this thread! Check the popular posts ribbon on the side of the screen!
  6. Ah. I can't say I am familiar with that type of interview. I did receive advice from my advisor that during interviews with multiple faculty members it is important to make sure to address a question to a particular faculty member, or that the question is directed at both of them. If you do not they may be confused as to who it is directed towards amongst themselves and pause a bit before responding. Best of luck!
  7. Is your interview with multiple faculty or multiple prospective students?
  8. It is very common! It is even common to have multiple interviews with non-POI faculty. I'll add what my interviews this season have been and are scheduled to be. Indiana U: Interviews with 1 student and 3 faculty members (1 non-POI). Q&A session with multiple students and other prospective applicants Ohio State: 30 minute interview with 2 faculty at the same time, 15 minute interview with current student University of Wisconsin-Madison: Interview with 1 current student and 6 faculty members (4 non-POI), 2 info sessions and 1 current student Q&A spread across a whole day 9 am to 6 pm. University at Buffalo: 2 30 minute interviews with 2 faculty. 1 with top POI and another with chair of program (non-poi). My secondary POI is not interviewing me. Q&A session with current students. University of Cincinnati: 3 hour interview day with at least 2 faculty and 1 student, no info yet on who I am interviewing with. UMass-Boston: 4 hour interview day, interviews with at least 3 faculty and 1 student. No info on who yet. Kent State: 1 hour interview session with 2 faculty (POIs) and 1 student. I had my first interviews Mon-Wed this week (with Indiana spread across a few days since I can't attend the interview day). They were supposed to be 15 minutes but one went to an hour ! Just be yourself and ask good questions. They will spend most of the time talking if you ask good questions and follow-ups to show you are interested. That will show them more then their hard questions. Good luck with your interviews!
  9. That is awesome! Hope you get more acceptances soon especially from your top choice!
  10. Congrats on getting accepted into Michigan State! Did you interview earlier this month and they recently got back to you?
  11. I have not. They said that the interviews would likely come out by the end of the first week of February.
  12. I contacted them at this email. schlpsy@umd.edu it’s the general admissions email for the program I believe.
  13. Has anyone else had trouble communicating with Ohio State? When I got an interview invite on January 4th, I emailed back that I needed an alternative date since it was at the samee time as Wisconsin's. They told me that other students needed an alternative date and that I shouldn't worry. They said that I would be hearing back soon. I haven't heard back since and the original interview was set for next Friday... I updated them about my availability as it changed. Two days ago, and on the 8th. Hopefully they get back soon and don't go silent.
  14. You might want to try another thread! This is for school psychology applications. I’ll be honest and say I don’t know anything about admissions for other branches of psychology but for almost every field interviews are required to get into a PhD program. The reason why most require interviews is to guarantee fit.
  15. People on the school psychology subreddit have discussed previously that they often don’t fund students after their first year. I steered clear of it because I can’t afford to take out 3-4 more years of loans. sounds like I dodged a bullet if they are being this inconsiderate.
  16. Wait they invited you to an info session and you weren’t invited to interview? That’s cruel.
  17. Email. I asked the coordinator if they had sent out invites and got this response “Thank you for your application and for reaching out with your question. At this time, initial decisions about inviting prospective students for interviews have been made. This year, the program received a record number of applications and the faculty are not able to interview everyone. Unfortunately, at this point, it is unlikely that you will be accepted, however you will receive a formal letter once final decisions have been made. Please let me know if you have any questions and best of luck in your graduate studies process!”
  18. I have the equivalent of a minor in Psychology for the most part. Maryland heavily emphasizes undergrad psych experience which may have led to the rejection. My major is in Special Education (Mild/Moderate and Moderate/Intensive) I’ve gotten an interview at each school I’ve heard back from except for Maryland. I’ve heard back from 7/9 schools. I’ve only heard good things about my education experience as most psych students don’t have any experience working in schools (if you have both it’ll look good too!)
  19. First rejection! University of Maryland. I’m just lucky it was #7 in my ranking and not higher. Rejection before interviews is pretty scary for my other apps but makes sense since my research match wasn’t perfect there.
  20. UNC’s deadline is February 9th. I don’t know of any schools that invite people for interviews and disqualify others before the deadline. It sounds like an info session. As most of us have applied to programs in December we probably had the chance to go to those in November.
  21. I got a phone call yesterday asking if I was indeed applying to their School Psychology PhD program. I said yes and the program director said that they would be inviting me to an interview in February. They said they would be sending out invites soon.
  22. No problem! Good luck at your interview
  23. Do you mean behind you in your room or behind you using the virtual background feature on zoom? The virtual background thing might be seen as bragging though since it might seem like you are trying to brag about your undergrad schools ranking (ivy leagues are often seen as bragging territory in interviews) I have been told to avoid anything that might seem arrogant or overly braggart about experience in interviews so it's kind of a gray area. I have a flag of my university and a rainbow pride flag right behind my desk. That would probably be fine and help you connect with professors you are interviewing with.
  24. I accepted the offer to interview on the 22nd with UW-Madison as well! They are my top choice and since then 4 other schools have gotten back to me with interviews on the 22nd (Lol) I have been able to reschedule all of them to other days/times with no issue. Many of the professors I emailed said not to worry, that it happens every year and will not affect the decision making process I wouldn’t go back on your promise though! That shows you aren’t too interested. I’d email Washington and say you already accepted an interview at that time. They’d be understanding I’m sure.
  25. Check one of my earlier posts for some questions to think about prior to the interview (questions for you to answer and for other people to answer)
