None of my family or friends know that April 1st is the day that emails are sent out, just because them asking me would cause me extra stress. But now I cant even tell them why I am so anxious  ?  I created a double edged sword for myself

If you've activated your Student ID at Western, you could see your admissions decision right at midnight (accepted, rejected, waitlisted) through student.uwo.ca
I've only ever been rejected or waitlisted, so I got the actual email for both UofT and Western during the day on April 1. My ORPAS also stayed blank (under choices/offers). Maybe acceptances appear on ORPAS right at midnight? I'm not sure.

I received my acceptance from UofA today too ? 2pm in Ontario, I guess Vicki is working overtime?! ?
Also third time's the charm holy... honestly for those who are applying for their second or third time, try applying to more schools across Canada and the US!!

I was wondering this too, but if you already activated the account back when they sent the original email a while ago I think you should be okay! I made the account back then and still received this email. The email says that once you've activated your account you should be able to log in to the Student Centre, so since we're able to log into that then I'd assume it means it was activated already.  They probably just sent it to all of the applicants

Anyone else absolutely jump out of their chair after receiving that email from Western? Definitely expected it to be in regards to acceptances/waitlists/rejections ?

For Western, if you have a login with the student center, the decision (acceptance, rejection, waitlist) appears right on the front page.
Source: this is my third time applying and I'm tired of seeing the yellow triangle indicating waitlisted ?

I've also wanted to put my input on this feed for a while... I guess now's the time since anxiety is running high with 1 week until decisions are out? so this is my third time applying to Canadian SLP programs, and it has not been an easy 3 years.  From volunteering in SLP and audiology clinics full time, taking a bunch of non-degree courses to increase my GPA, working full time at an SLP clinic as a client care coordinator and STILL receiving waitlisted/rejection... this process was grueling and took a huge toll on my mental health. I feel all your posts and empathize with the anxiety from the bottom of my heart.
I decided to apply this year to US universities, and man, that experience was incredible. First, it's super easy to apply as they have a centralized app portal for the majority of SLP programs in the states. I got follow-ups from program coordinators personally asking for more information on my experiences, TWO acceptances so far, and just an all around feeling like they value each and every applicant.
I wanted to share this experience with you to let you know that each and every one of you are working your ASSES off and in the hopefully unlikely event that you don't receive good news this years, DON'T YOU DARE GIVE UP.  There ARE options and you ARE worth it.
Also I would be more than happy to share my stats, info I've gathered from US unis, and just if you want to DM me to rant I'm more than available.

I'm a first-year student at Western so I can touch on our program a bit. We have a great speech science course in our first term that talks a lot about pitch, resonance, breath, etc. and has a sister clinical applications course where we practice analyzing/measuring these things. However, our voice disorders course isn't until second year so I can't really provide information on that. I am finishing my first placement this week at Western's in-house clinic and I just happened to be randomly assigned to a voice client. My clinical supervisor (who I believe is always or at least usually the supervisor for voice clients) is absolutely amazing. She is extremely knowledgeable about working with voice disorders, LSVT, singers/actors, transgender individuals, etc. and she is always happy to share information/answer questions.
I don't believe that you can request certain areas for your first placement but if you do end up at Western and happen to get a voice placement I don't think you would be disappointed.
I hope this helps! Feel free to message me if you have any questions

Hey guys, anybody else feeling super anxious for April 1st? I can't seem to focus on anythingggg going on in my life besides application results. I keep obsessively checking Western's portal page even though I know I won't find out until April 1st lol. My birthday is also coming up in a week and normally I'm really excited about my birthday (especially this year when we have nothing else to celebrate due to the pandemic), but the stress of finding out whether I got into Western or not is absolutely killing me... so much so that I impulsively cut 12 inches off of my 4-year long grown hair lmao. Anyways, I hope everyone is keeping healthy during this time! A couple of more weeks and we'll have our decisions! Good luck to everyone .
Also, congratulations to everyone who has been accepted or waitlisted to any university so far! It's an amazing achievement and I hope you all are very proud of yourselves! For the others (myself included), let's keep our heads high and hope for the best! Remember, everything happens for a reason . Cheers!

    Hey all,
As the verdicts to some of our applications role in, I am feeling the anxiety get to me. First I wanted to start off by congratulating those who have been waitlisted or accepted into McGill!! Now for those who have yet to hear anything such as me, my friend enlightened me with some consolations the other day that made me feel a lot better about things. She quoted some very wise words of Shakespeare to me "if it be not now, yet it will come". Although I know the quote is about death, when thinking about it out of context, if things do not go they way that you want them, do not forget that you can try again later. If you do not get in this year round, you may the next. I am sending good vibes to everyone here and I hope things go well for all of you!
    Pav!

Hi Everyone! Just thought I would jump in here. I am a Western student and have been applying to SLP grad schools for THREE YEARS. This year I applied to Western, McMaster, McGill, Dalhousie. I have been waitlisted at UWO twice now, and rejected from McMaster twice with no interview.
    Some Stats:
I have a 3.5 sGPA 350+ volunteer hours (children in school, children with disabilities, adults with aphasia, adults with autism) An honors bachelor degree in psychology from UWO A graduate certificate in Autism and Behavioural Sciences from Fanshawe I haven't heard anything from McGill yet, but I know other people have been waitlisted with higher GPAs than me, so I am assuming I have been rejected?
I had emailed UWO in 2019 and 2020 to ask why I was waitlisted
2019: Improve your prerequisite course marks (which I did for the next application- took 2.5 more credits) 2020: Told to improve my letter of intent. Was also told I was in the "4th quadrant" of the waitlist, but wasn't told how many people were on the waitlist. However, I have heard rumors the waitlist is generally about 100 people long.

Yeah, it's really frustrating to read that U of T has dismissed it all togehter, and now I'm worried about my western app. I completely understand and respect that it was really hard for some people. That being said, balancing volunteering with school is tough and it seems that the fair thing for those who have spent years volunteering or even acquired paid positions would be the make the evaluation either/or, not to dismiss it altogether

I think it'd be extremely unfair for them not to consider volunteering experiences at all. As tazm mentioned, some people spent years accumulating hundreds of hours. Hypothetically, Covid would have affected those that did not do any volunteering up until March 2020, which would have been a bit late to start. Also it made it harder but not impossible to get hours (I'm still doing online volunteering), so the fair thing would be to give it less weight.

Absolutely. I've been balancing volunteering with updating my grades and working full time for a couple of years, so learning that UofT may completely disregard that is a punch in the gut.
Well a few posts above you mentioned that you did get a letter from an SLP anyway, and if Western mentioned that thing with prior arrangements I'm sure they'll consider it. There's still some hope for Western!

I received an email this morning with a Zoom link for my McMaster MMI!
To those of you being rejected by McMaster, I'm sorry that this whole process seems like it's off to a bad start, but please keep your heads up! GPA isn't everything, although I'm sure it might seem like it right now. I'm sure you all have some wonderful skills and experiences outside of that, and so I truly hope other schools are able to see this, and wish you the best of luck with the rest of your applications! It's going to be an emotional next month or two, but stay grounded and keep your chins up

Also received my rejection from McMaster today. I kind of prepared myself for it as I know the GPA cut-off is competitive. Just wanted to share this as it made me feel better. My friend who applied last year didn't receive an interview from McMaster but was accepted by Western and UofT and now attends UofT. It goes to show that you can still be a qualified applicant without having an extremely high GPA. I'm hoping McMaster will change their application process in the future. GPA is a very important measure but it doesn't paint the whole picture for many applicants.

I think in the past with in-person MMI's many might not be able to make it. Additionally, in my MMI offer email, it says that time slots for the interviews are final, and they cannot be changed, so I imagine if someone has a strict work schedule, appointment, midterm, etc. that can't be rescheduled then they wouldn't be able to attend the MMI.

Yeah, I thought it was around this too! Which is partially why I'm surprised some people with 3.82's haven't received one yet. Maybe the sGPA of applicants this year was higher, or there were more applicants. As someone else mentioned, perhaps they look at your prerequisite grades too, or how many of them you have completed (if you still have the majority of them in progress, they might be more hesitant to offer an interview maybe). I don't know for sure though.
Either way, as far as I know they haven't sent out waitlist or rejection emails, so keep your chins up!

For everyone waiting to hear back from McMaster about MMI invitations: I'm also thinking I might not get an interview because my sGPA wasn't as high as I thought it would be, but it's impossible to know whether or not we've been rejected just yet since they technically have until March 2nd to send out invites.
What I've been doing is logging into the McMaster portal, Mosaic, and it lets you view your application status. As of right now mine still saying Pending, and I keep checking there just to see if I've been rejected. Just thought I'd mention that in case it helps someone else get some additional info during the waiting process haha.
Keep your chins up guys! Just over a month to go until we hear back from the other universities.
