No acceptances yet for McGill? I find this process extremely odd. I don't see why they would send out waitlist offers ahead of acceptances/rejections.

I'm wondering the same thing... Maybe they did send out acceptances, but none of us in this forum are a part of that accepted group? ?

    Hey all!

I hope you all are doing well!

Good luck to all those who have their MMI's! Just be yourself and do not stress too much!

I was wondering if there was anyone else on this thread that for whatever reason was only able to apply to one University like me? I find not having any back ups to be very nerve-racking. So whether I get in or not determines my fate for the following year. My sGPA is 3.40 which is not the greatest (I had a really bad third year due to some personal circumstances) but I do not want to lose hope! I volunteer with a clinic currently and I have worked with 3 separate SLPS and all of them have said that they think I would be a great SLP! Which I guess is very encouraging!! So I hope Western can look past my sGPA and I hopefully get accepted!

Now I know I just said that I am feeling the anxiety, but I will say that from what I have read about the others in this thread you all seem like very smart, kind and just over all great people! So try not to stress too much guys, and I wish you the best of luck in your applications and for the future!

Hi Pav! Just want to let you know that you aren't alone in applying to one school. I only applied to McGill... and seeing as it's so competitive I'm already planning on applying again next year if I don't get in. Of course, I'm hoping for the best... but also accepting that if I don't get in, I'll try again next year and apply to more schools. Best of luck to you though and it sounds like you've got some great experiences under your belt!

I'd love to hear everyones stats :) I'm a little antsy with this wait!

Just thought I'd chime in with my stats as well! I got my Bachelor of Arts from McGill with a double major in international development studies and Hispanic studies (Spanish language focus). Definitely not the "usual background" for someone going into S-LP, but here we are. I graduated with a 3.67 CGPA. Not sure what my SGPA is, because I only applied to McGill. I was going to apply to other schools as well but couldn't get all the pre-reqs done in time. If I don't get accepted to McGill, I'll probably apply to a few other schools next year.

I have been working for an aphasia organization for the past few months leading a (virtual) workshop every week and assisting with others as well. I currently work as an ESL teacher with adults, but have also worked at an elementary school teaching English in Spain (I lived there for a little over a year). I have lots and lots of tutoring experience with kids and experience teaching English as a second language (which I'm mainly leaning on) in Canada and abroad.

You guys all seem extremely qualified with very high GPAs. Best of luck to everyone. :)

Is any one open to potentially exchanging Statements of Intent for mutual editing? I want someone familiar with the field and programs to look at my statement before I submit. I would certainly return the favour if anyone is willing :)

    Hi, shoot me a message!

Hey there! I'm a second time applicant.

I'm assuming that your statement of intent has a word/page limit therefore it's important to be really selective about the experiences you're elaborating on. Your statement is your chance to tell them why they should pick you. Why you stand out and what you can bring to the cohort that you're peers might not be able to. You really have to sell yourself. And so take pride in your accomplishments, the lessons you learned, and exude that confidence. Passion gets you far because it'll answer the so-what. Your grades and resume are just facts about you - they don't tell the admissions committee why your applying. I really had to do some soul searching and went through countless drafts. Its hard to think about yourself so ask the people around you what makes you special. I probably asked a dozen people why they thought I should apply.

Research the universities you're applying to. Identify an area of interest that aligns with a professor. It's a good idea that you contact them and try and get a meeting. Or you can just mention that you like their work and would like the opportunity to join their lab and work under their mentorship.

You really want to identify two things: What value do you bring to them and how they can help your professional goals. The bottom line is that you have to tell them why you're a good match.

Your statement might be different depending on the guidelines of the university. I know the schools I considered were pretty open ended. Also if you have any gaps in your application - maybe you had a bad semester it's a good idea to address it. You can mention why it happened and how you've recuperated or what you learned from it. It's better to address it (you don't need to go into too much detail) then have the committee come to their own conclusions.

Hopefully that helps. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Thank you so much, that really helps!

Hey all! I'm currently a first year SLP student at McGill and understand any feelings of worry/stress during the application process! I also applied to McMaster, Western, and Dalhousie last year, so if you have any questions, feel free to message me :)

Hey! Can I ask what experience you had in the field prior to applying and any information you're willing to share about your academic background? My ideal situation would be getting accepted to McGill, but unfortunately I don't think I have the specific rigorous academic/professional qualifications they look for nor the extremely high gpa I've seen in other accepted applicants :(
