  1. hey ya'll, i've officially accepted my offer from Tulane SBPS after reaching out to Brown's BSHS program director to gain insight on waitlist movement. i'm super excited and would love to connect with anyone else who plans to attend Tulane (regardless of department) since I know absolutely no one in NOLA haha
  2. I emailed the UCB Epid department manager last week and she apologized for the delay & that they were hoping to release decisions this week....but it's now Friday so hopefully sometime soon. When I spoke to her, faculty and students last Fall they all emphasized that they don't require interviews so I really don't understand why it's taking so long.
  3. Rejected from Yale today (SBS), not surprised at all though as I didn't interview! Also, I emailed Berkeley's department contact in Epi and she said that they're planning to release decisions next week!
  4. Congratulations on your acceptance!! That is exactly what I have told myself since I decided to apply. I would imagine you'd get that information before having to accept; I would definitely reach out in a week if you hadn't heard any follow up - I think that's super fair.
  5. I did interview with my advisor in late January, but when I was applying faculty and students told me interviews were not required.
  6. Congratulations to you as well!! I'm super excited and grateful to have heard good news from them ?
  7. It was an auto generated email that lead to a portal that was more personalized!
  8. I just accepted to Tulane's SBPS PhD Program!!!
  9. hey guys! program update: i reached out to HBHE's student director and she said that all interview invites have been offered. i really do wish that programs would send out rejection emails sooner rather than leave folks in limbo.
  10. I haven't heard anything from Yale SBS, but I remember a few weeks ago someone posted that interviews would be going out later that week, and someone else (from a different department) said there was a recruitment day for all departments. So I'm expecting an R soon; could totally be wrong as this is all hearsay. ?
  11. Ofc! Sorry for not specifying, I applied for the SBPS track
  12. Hi! I agree with some other folks that this is a hard situation. Personally, I moved away from my partner for my master degree, thinking it'd only be for two years & it's definitely been harder. Because I did decide to apply for PhDs right after, our plan is for him to move out with me wherever that may be (either for a program or job if I don't get in somewhere). I'm fortunate his company has offices basically across the entire country; however, we're anticipating his move might be a few months after I do since he would need to secure a transfer beforehand. I did also try to apply to programs in cities he would also enjoy, because I knew it was a possibility to go remote after prelims. and would have felt bad if he uprooted entirely for something/somewhere he wasn't excited for.
  13. I have the same inkling! I got an email from the POI I interviewed with on 1/28 that said the department was finalizing admissions, funding, and scholarships, and that was almost 2 weeks ago...
  14. That makes a lot of sense! I know I spoke with various people in the department (department coordinator, faculty and some current doc students) & the program seems to be extremely small (like so many other great schools) ? I heard they try to get decisions out by early March at the latest, so hopefully we hear back soon!!
  15. I'm sorry to hear about your rejections ? But wishing you good luck and that you hear some positive news from one of your programs! I also applied to UMich HBHE and haven't heard a thing either. I'm hoping to hear something this week or upcoming week because I know they do require interviews for admission.
  16. Just got a waitlist offer from Brown BSHS!
  17. Looks like someone on the results page reported getting accepted to Berkeley Epid without an interview. Congrats to whoever that was, and good luck to my fellow applicants! I know I'm pretty anxious hearing that programs I've applied to are starting to notify those accepted ?
  18. keeping true with their two week time frame. thanks for the update, good luck to you as well!
  19. I reviewed my SOP for the school to see what they had access too, and then did more research on the program (i.e. research centers, course requirements, etc.) and my interviewers specifically (their interests/current research, center affiliations, classes they taught, and read a few recent papers they'd written). Might have been a little too much, but I just wanted to be ready to talk about them if needed. Other than that, I tried to prepare for some questions I thought they might ask: tell me about yourself/your interests, why this program, why are you interested in a phd right now as opposed to in a few years, where do i see myself post-phd. Also brainstormed some questions to ask them, I thought the research on the program was really helpful here because I was able to avoid asking questions that are on the websites.
  20. I applied to Berkeley Epi also and haven't heard a thing either. When I spoke to faculty and the department coordinator they all mentioned that interviews weren't required so faculty have the option to reach out but it isn't required. Hopefully this helps
  21. I personally got the impression it was a case by case. This particular POI was someone who I hadn't mentioned in my research statement but whose work does closely align, so they really just seemed interested in learning more about my interests/what I was looking for in a program.
  22. Wow that's such a quick turnaround!! Congratulations!!! I interviewed with BSHS, and was told from current students (so nothing official/confirmed) but that they all heard back within ~2ish weeks so getting nervous for next week.
  23. Forgot to share that a POI at Tulane (new SBPS track) reached out to me last week to schedule an interview for later the same week. They sent me an update this afternoon clarifying something, and mentioned that their department was in the process of finalizing admits and funding because they were only accepting students they could guarantee funding for at least 2 years.
