  1. Thank you for your support! I am sure you are going to kill it. you deserve a spot in that program (AND a good financial aid package) greatly and I hope you get it. i hope after the interview is done we can chit chat about our experiences.
  2. I honestly have NO idea. It is a similar thing with film festivals (more people submitting films this years - how did they get funds to shoot them?!). I wish someone hear could give an answer as I am at sea
  3. I am so sorry. I can’t imagine how frustrated and upset you are probably feeling. Please do not forget that this year there is a surge in applications and schools are accepting less people, so that is a factor too.
  4. Hey, guys, I have a question i have an interview tomorrow at USC and allegedly it should be only 15 minutes. Should it be me or them who keeps the track of time? (Like can I go for more detailed, longer answers etc?) also. Since I sent them my application I got a gallery exhibition and a festival showcase. I wonder if there is a way for me to mention those things without sounding like I am bragging? i appreciate any of your advice in advance.
  5. You are right, I really do not have enough stats to assume such a big thing right off the bat. I apologise. It is really not my place to speculate like this. I was/am really bitter about the financial aspects of this whole thing especially in SVA, and I went overboard while writing this message. i am sorry to anyone who got hurt by this message. I will definitely be more careful next time (and I will not speak anymore on the topic)
  6. Yeah I would love to see your work. Please DM
  7. Can I ask what were the questions during the UCLA interview?
  8. can I see your work somewhere? Jo Ann Callis is also a huge influence on my photography
  9. I apologise, I might have not articulated myself well in the previous post. I do not think that all Asian students come from upper-class backgrounds, what I was trying to say that I think there might be a correlation between one university making it easy to attend for international students but not for other international students. I am speaking here as an international student myself. (that said, I am white, so this might be a situation where I should just keep my mouth shut and listen). And again, I aplogise, I did not want to generalise.
  10. maybe different departments also have different funding then?.. but i would recommend emailing your department
  11. i am also very interested to hear about parsons
  12. I totally second your sentiment about black and Hispanic students. Did you receive the brochure from the chair about the departmental assistanships? So this is the only way to get aid from school in my understanding -- applying to an assistanship where you work in a certain department (they are highly competitive positions) and if you get a part time assistanship you get a quarter of a tuition off, and if you get a full time (I think it is 20 hours a week) you get half tuition off. If you did not get a brochure for some reason email them NOW to apply. (it also would be incredibly weird if they did not send it to you). but as far as i know - there is no other funding at all
  13. Please do not get me wrong - I feel like I am sounding like a raging racist here - I think inclusion should be at the forefront of the MFA programs both at the cohort side and at the faculty (it is horrible to see that for example none of the program I applied to have no black faculty at_all, I have noticed only one Asian professor and USC has been the only school with Latinx faculty) - but my conjecture is (and I will be glad to be proven wrong) is that SVA might be accepting a lot of Asian students from high-economic backgrounds, so yes, we are getting cultural diversity but at the same time are getting very upper-class cohort coming from very wealthy families, which is_not_what_inclusion_is_about, at least for me.
  14. Abso-fucking-lutely. This was one of the things that the SVA alumni had told me about on the phone when I contacted them (and something I have noticed while looking through the alumni catalogue) and I came to the same conclusion as you do. It does say a lot about the way admin deals with funding-related issues for need-based students....
  15. no matter what my decision is this year I will let you know what their final funding offer will be
  16. thank you! i will keep that in mind (my questions were more about the funding etc)
  17. So I got in touch with the alums only from SVA (as it is the only place I got accepted to yet) but what I did is asked the graduate adviser to link me to the alums and they immediately gave me their emails. I think if you ask the same fron UW, Tulane and Goldsmiths faculty they will be happy to oblige. (Alternatively you can find the alums whose work you like from the alum catalogues on the universities websites, but who knows if they will reply in time etc.)
  18. Yeah, when I spoke with UW faculty they told me that in the “previous years” the cohort received full funding and stipend but the website is super wishy washy about this (and pandemic might change how much $$ university receives or whatever). i am very much hoping UW gives me a green light as I crave that funding at this point more than anything else (and yeah I would love if we end up in the same school). But good things about Tulane and UW is that they give you teaching opportunities which I think is a good experience to gain for potential jobs etc. are you going to talk to alumni of these universities? I find that it is incredibly enlightening as sometimes they can tell you things or people in the program to avoid.
  19. Look, I think @scrambledmegs is upset (I would be too if I did bot get into my top choice school after a rigorous interview process) and I think it is best to put this discussion to rest.
  20. Maybe I assumed wrong but I always thought that UW gives out full funding + stipend?.. (maybe I am wrong...) can I ask if/why you did not apply to UCLA? (we just seemed to apply to similar schools)
  21. Do you know how big Tulane’s cohort this year is? I applied for Photo but they never got back to me so I assume it is no interview and a rejection obviously. i also thought that UW also gives full ride and some sort of a stipend, no?
  22. It is great that you have so many choices. What department are you in? I personally heard really wonderful things about Goldsmiths.
  23. Congrats! Can i see your work anywhere?
