Be gone with you. Take your trolling elsewhere. We have nothing to say to you. Is it possible to block users on here?

There's usually quite a delay. I believe there's only one admin who screens the requests. I don't participate a ton, but I've enjoyed Draft quite a bit. I've learned a TON just by being in the group. When I was researching schools, several people shared their spreadsheets of info they'd gathered, which saved me a lot of time. It's a good place to find answers to questions (just make sure you search before you post). Some people in there are quite direct, so be prepared for that, but mostly everyone is really supportive.

Congrats! And good luck to you as well!

Me toooo. Last night I purposely unplugged for six hours--turned my phone and computer off completely, played a game with my kiddo, watched West Wing, ate popcorn, sipped some whiskey--and it was so relaxing. I didn't realize how much I needed it. And when the six hours were up and I hurried to turn on my phone, the only new email was a New Yorker newsletter. So think of how many times I would have compulsively checked my email during that time just to be disappointed.

FYI all - someone in Draft just got accepted from University of Illinois Champaign for poetry.

I watched those right before I applied there. Super interesting. I had no idea that visiting professors had so much say in who gets accepted. Seems like a great way to keep their program from growing stale. Iowa has been criticized in the past for only accepting a certain type of writer (Carver-esque), which I've heard is no longer true.

Thank you for sharing all of this! It's so hard to not tie my worth as a writer to these results, but you're totally right. I keep reminding myself that one of my recommenders--a very talented writer and IWW alum--was rejected across the board the first time she applied.

Thank you for this. It was much needed. I've only been able to eke out a few paragraphs each day and I can't seem to stop checking my email, app portals, and submittable. I'm homeschooling my kindergartener right now and doing part-time work from home but it's just so hard to concentrate on anything for an extended period of time.

Woo-hoo! Congrats on finishing and also for submitting! Do you tend to start at the top tier pubs and work your way down or do you mix it up?
-
Welcome! Looks like you and I have a few crossovers. Which school are you most excited about? I would be psyched to be anywhere, but Iowa is my dream school and I also have eyes for UVA and U of Florida.
-
Welcome! Where are you applying?

I guess I didn't really think about USF. I had both USF and FSU crossed off my list because they have a 2/2 teaching load. But then I added FSU last-minute since they accept Interfolio and I'm not sure if USF does.
-
Welcome! Great list of schools. What is your concentration/genre?

My husband really wants to move somewhere warm; UF was already on my list but I added Florida State just for him. I’m considering adding Florida Atlantic as well.

Loved this! Amazing visuals. And your writing has such a great sound to it.

Congrats on the publications! I just recently started submitting. One of my recommenders gave me a long speech about steeling myself for a whole lot of rejection (when it comes to publication) and encouraged me to submit as much as I can, so I started a rejection wall where I have printed copies of my rejections taped up. I only have two so far but my goal is to paper that sucker by the end of the year. ? I'm a big fan of Black Warrior Review. They publish a lot of surreal and experimental stuff, which I love to read but don't really write. I did recently submit a piece to them that has a little splash of weird, but I'm not hoping for much. And I entered the ASF flash contest too, so good luck to us both!

Anyone have any favorite lit mags that you love to read or submit to?

What unfortunate says sounds right to me. I think I some program websites said to submit it when you apply and others said that you will need to submit it if accepted.

A hot bath or a hot cup of tea right before bed helps me. Screens like my phone or tv seem to keep my brain jumpy, so I avoid them as I wind down and try to read instead.
-
I feel you. The novel I’m planning right now to be my thesis project if I get into a program is based on some rough personal stuff. I’m wondering how I’m going to handle going down that hole. Was it cathartic at all to get it down on paper?

Yes! So good! I became obsessed with Donna Tartt for a little while after reading it. I wish I could pull off her look.
