Let me add Penn State to the same list as UC Davis for the same reasons.
-
I'm feeling a little tense right now for UC Davis, and Vanderbilt. As per my understanding, UC Davis released a few acceptances yesterday, and I feel like if I don't hear today or tomorrow I'm probably not being accepted there. As for Vanderbilt, I believe they're contacting potential students for interviews and they already reached out to a couple people. Makes me wonder and feel anxious because if I don't hear from them soon, then it will again most likely indicate a rejection. As for UIUC, I'm almost assuming for sure that it is a reject because they sent out acceptances and waitlists a little while ago, and I haven't heard from them yet.

Congratulations to all Princeton admits and waitlists Also to the NYU admits! Glad that good news is flowing in for some people at least!
-
Congrats! If I’m not wrong, PSU hasn’t reached out to students regarding direct acceptances yet right?
-
Congratulations! What subfield? Also, does Penn State usually waitlist before accepting?
-
Congratulations. Hope I get to hear from them soon! Do you mind sharing your sub field? I know the other acceptance was PT.
-
How are Davis admits coming at this time though?
-
Omg I just saw that! I did apply there. I really wonder if it’s legit.
-
Not official of course, but UIUC and UT Austin have sent out acceptances and waitlists already, so it does feel like anyone who hasn’t heard from them would most likely get a rejection.
-
I do agree that the current economic situation was also another factor! As for the GRE requirement at Michigan, their website said the GRE is NOT required at all this year. That’s all it really said. What’s weird is that most other schools either said that the GRE is not required, but it is optional and people can still submit it, OR they said that the GRE is not required and will not even be considered if you submit scores. In the case of Michigan, they didn’t really specify the details of the GRE and just mentioned it’s not required.
-
Probably because they’re not only Top 10 but they also weren’t considering the GRE this year. I was initially happy that the GRE was waived because it’s not the most ideal measure of student capabilities, but at this point, the effect of no GRE requirement has increased applications to many of the schools I applied to and I can’t help but wonder if my chances would be better if that wasn’t the case...

I think that’s interesting. I haven’t gotten any acceptances so far, but I’ve gotten rejections from two schools (OSU, UCSD) that I considered great research fits as compared to 2 others (UT and Rice) that were not as great but I still got waitlisted there.
-
Also rejected by OSU. Expected!
-
I haven’t heard anything from UIUC yet. I’m assuming it’s probably going to be a reject at this point. Same with OSU.
-
Yeah I hope so. I would personally LOVE to work with Ian Hurd. I feel like Northwestern is one of my best fit in terms of research because of Professor Hurd.
-
Is this even legit?
-
Does Vanderbilt interview everyone they're considering for admission?
-
Yes! I would usually type Northwestern but I saw a couple people abbreviating it to NW so I thought I'll use it!
-
I’m really starting to wonder about Emory and NW at this point. They usually have decisions at the end of January!

I was planning on applying for IR. I know LORs aren’t everything, but my profile isn’t too bad, and having a PhD alum who’s been in the same program recommend a student must have at least slight benefits I guess. Now I really regret not applying. I let the “rankings” affect my decisions even though the program really appealed to me. I thought that money would be better spent on a higher ranked school. In my defense, I had spoken to a few current students at Top 20 programs that said rankings mattered a lot (especially in terms of placements) and I got swayed by that. Moreover, I didn’t even have access to this forum then. Well, it is what it is. Hopefully I do get into one of the schools I applied to. Really really hoping Emory or NW revert soon. If I don’t get in any place, I’ll definitely try USC next cycle (hopefully it doesn’t come to it though).
-
I almost regret not applying to USC. I feel like I had a good chance, and one of my LOR writers is also an alum of the Political Science PhD program there. The only thing that held me back is the ranking. On US News it was like 51, so I got very skeptical.

Almost noon yet and no word yet! JUST TELL US ALREADY ?
-
So my OSU portal still shows pending, and I know people got their decisions a long time ago. At this point, it is very safe for me to assume it is probably a reject, but I don't get why they can't just change the pending sign to a rejection so I can stop checking it!

Hi! I see in your signature that you listed Harvard and Columbia as back up masters programs. Which courses exactly?
-
I just want to appreciate all of you guys! It feels great knowing there’s so many people out there feeling the same anxiety, fears and hopes that I feel. I have learned a lot about so many of you’ll on here, and definitely gained so many valuable insights! I hope we all get into someplace of our choice eventually. For me- I’m waiting on a lot of decisions, and I have two waitlists (no acceptances yet, unfortunately). But knowing that I’m not alone, helps so much. Best wishes to everyone on here.
