  1. I was wondering if you’d mind sharing which school you got your Masters from? I’m trying to explore some Masters programs as back ups if I don’t get into a PhD program!
  2. What school are you graduating from?
  3. So I am an undergraduate student applying for a PhD which I aim to begin as soon as I’m done with my Bachelors degree. Most university websites generally say, “we accept both undergraduate students, and graduate students who have completed their Masters”, and they don’t openly admit to preferring one over the other. I was just wondering if there are any disadvantages to being an applicant who’s applying straight outta school? I also was wondering how many of the people here are students applying after Masters/Bachelors/or after a break?
  4. Ah, I see. I hope I am a slam dunk but I doubt that because I don’t think I have a profile that is just outstanding! I mean, it’s definitely good, but not the kind that you look at and just automatically go “Yup”!
  5. Yeah that’s what mine says too! I’m IR/Comparative. I know quite a few people on here have gotten emails for interviews. I haven’t heard back yet. Optimistically, they’re probably slowly rolling them out. Pessimistically, if we don’t get one soon then I don’t know if it’s going to be a positive result with Madison at least...
  6. Congratulations! Let us know how it goes. Btw, what sub field?
  7. Congrats! I’ve been obsessively checking my email and the Madison application portal since I saw that people are getting interviews! Did you get an email about it today? Also, if you can, please let us know how it goes, and what kinds of question they ask you! I’m sure a lot other people (including me) would find such information super helpful! Good luck!!
  8. I am starting this thread out of fear and anxiety and impatience! But I’m sure many of you might be in the same boat as me- revisiting grad school application portals, and constantly checking results on grad cafe to see if schools have started rolling out decisions. I know that gradcafe has a space wherein you can submit your results and write a little bit about it, but I feel like there is never enough information about it. I often wonder about the profile of the person who got rejected/accepted and I always want to know more. So maybe we could use this thread to discuss all things related to decisions, and engage in open dialogue!
  9. Thank you! I don’t know if you’re an applicant too, but if you are, I wish you the same. If not, I still wish you luck on any future endeavours!
  10. Thank you! I appreciate it. I hope that they won’t give too much preference to the GRE this year anyway. As I mentioned in the other reply, at this point I don’t even care if I don’t get into most of them, as long as I just get into one or two!
  11. No don’t worry! That’s completely alright. I was almost planning on skipping the GRE since it was optional for most schools but I gave it kind of last minute. I know it’s not the greatest score, but I’m hoping that the fact that I’m an international student might help with justifying the verbal score. Thank you for telling me that I have a shot to get into at least some of them. I know that doesn’t guarantee me getting in, but it just sounds reassuring. At this point, I’m so worried that I just want to get into one school at least so I don’t have to worry about what I’ll do if I don’t get in. Also, schools like Yale/Northwestern etc. made the GRE optional this year so I’m hoping they won’t give too much importance to those scores. I think my biggest worry is that I know I am not graduating from a very prestigious school, and I know that a lot of people competing from the same spots come from great undergraduate/Masters programs.
  12. Hi everyone! I’m new here and I’m incredibly anxious about my applications that I submitted. I was hoping to get some of your two cents on if you think I could possibly get in to any school that I’ve applied to! Here’s a quick overview of my profile: Bachelors: SUNY Oswego, New York GPA: 3.89 GRE: Verbal 161, Quants 160, AWA 5 Born in Mumbai, India (so I’ll be an international student). Experience: Political Science Honors TA in International Law for a Semester I built good professional relationships with some of my professors so I’m not too worried about my letters. I’m applying for a PhD with a concentration in IR. My undergrad majors were Poli Sci, Global Studies and a minor in Philosophy. List of schools I applied to: 1. UC San Diego 2. U Chicago 3. University of Illinois UC 4. Ohio State 5. U Michigan Ann Arbor 6. UC Davis 7. Northwestern 8. Emory 9. UW Madison 10. Yale 11. UT Austin I might send in my applications to Vanderbilt and Penn State as well. I’m not sure how good the program at Rice is (any opinions on that are welcome as well) Let me know what you think!
  13. I hope everybody else’s applications went okay! I applied to 11 universities and I’m still so so so so anxious. I’m afraid I won’t get in like literally anywhere, literally one of my greatest fears.
  14. I feel that! I’m going to slowly submit Vanderbilt and Penn State because they’re all the way over in Jan
