Sharing my application status in case this is helpful for those waiting for results:

    Acceptances:
    - UCLA (PhD in Urban Schooling) - Feb 17th
    - Northwestern (PhD in HDSP) - last week
    - University of Washington (PhD in Learning Science and Human Development) - last week. Has anyone who got an offer received funding information?
    - Wisconsin-Madison (PhD in Education Policy Studies) - about a month ago

    Waiting list:
    - USC (PhD in Education)
    - TC (PhD in Education and Sociology)

    Rejections:
    - Stanford (RILE/SHIPS)
    - Michigan Ann Arbor (CPEP)
    - NYU (Sociology of Education)

    Still waiting:
    - Berkeley (PhD in Education). Has anyone heard from them?

I don't know if UW's COE has released acceptance for other tracks. I haven't seen anything posted for Ed Policy, only Learning Science.

  2. This is my second cycle applying for PhDs and I ended up at a fully funded Masters with a TAship and an additional award. I came into this cycle from a very dark place last cycle. I've been a public school ELA teacher for the past 5 years (without a Master's), and desperate to realize my dream of a PhD program but feeling stuck and unappreciated as an educator. My research interests are in Rhetoric and still K-12 focused.

I'm very happy with the program I ended up with. It was absolutely about "fit" more than anything else. I really didn't think that a fully funded Master's program with a TAship was even in the realm of possibility because they seem so difficult to find, especially after COVID. But I'm excited to be a part of a program that is excited to have me!

I guess I'm writing this because it is what I would have appreciated reading as I scoured these forums this cycle or last cycle. I hope everyone else ended up somewhere they are happy with as well.

Just heard from the DGS from my waitlist school, and they basically confirmed that almost no one has committed or declined yet. You may be right that we are all waiting to hear about other schools!

This is what I've heard from a POI as well. It is so frustrating because it feels like everything is at a standstill. I know that movement is expected closer to April 15th.

Hello all- early modernist here! Was waitlisted at USC and Notre Dame last cycle and didn't make it off those lists. This year I've got

Acceptances from UC San Diego, University of Connecticut, and University of Washington

Waitlists from: USC, UC- Davis, CUNY, UT Austin, WUSTL, and one of those long waitlists from UNC Chapel Hill

Some rejections and some schools still pending.

Thanks for making this thread! Which track are you in at UW?

I am still waiting to hear back from 3 programs, but so far I am waitlisted at University of Washington and in for the Masters program at UW-Milwaukee but waitlisted for funding. I am hopeful about this cycle after a shutout (only 4 applications) last cycle!

Has anyone else heard anything from the University of Washington? I saw one acceptance on the results page today

My phone won't let me click the "Submit Results" tab so I haven't been able to submit my own result yet, but I got an email stating I had been put on the Waitlist. I applied for the Language & Rhetoric track. The email said 4% of applicants were admitted. This is my dream program so I am really hoping that I get in eventually!

  6. I'm excited to see all these UNC acceptances on the board!

I did not apply to this school, but it seems that they have released results earlier than in previous years. Has anyone noticed this with other schools?

I haven't heard back from schools either way this year, but in my handful of rejections last year, each one mentioned the drastic increase in applicants. Has anyone heard from programs about a similar trend happening this year?

Good luck getting through this week!

  7. Did anyone else receive an email from UW late last night about filling out a required sexual misconduct declaration? The email says that it does not predict future admissions decisions, but I did not receive one last year and I remember others on this forum had discussed receiving this email. They could also very well just be requiring all applicants to fill out the form this year!

I'm not exactly in this group, but adjacent--I taught middle and high school before pursuing an MA, now a PhD. I personally felt so out of the loop with the discipline of English that crafting a "relevant" SOP and writing sample that engages in current discourse for PhD apps felt very out of reach (when I was still teaching), and my MA has been so informative, enjoyable, and edifying. Though I also wasn't an English major in undergrad, which is probably relevant.

This is so helpful to hear! I feel this disconnect as well. Did you recently complete your MA? And were you able to complete it while also teaching? I thought going straight for the PhD would be the best route for me, but now I'm considering other options.

Argh sorry about all this admissions crypticness-- I'll just paste the bulk of the UW email here for the sake of transparency, I'm not sure about state resident status:

"I am pleased to let you know that your application has been advanced for consideration into the second round of our review process. The applications included in the second round of review represent just under 15% of our total applications for admission to the Literature and Culture track, so this is a significant achievement, although it is important to note that we have not yet selected our finalists and this letter does not constitute an offer of admission. We expect to communicate final decisions on or around February 18th.  In the meantime, as we continue with our ongoing review of applications, we need to ask that you please submit to the UW Human Resources department as soon as possible and no later than February 4, 2021, the form explained below.

The University of Washington is committed to ensuring a safe environment for all members of the UW community. As a part of that commitment, and in recognition of Washington state law, candidates for employment are required to complete a sexual misconduct declaration (see attachment). This includes prospective graduate students who might be offered employment-based funding with admission.

To ensure continued consideration for student employment, please complete the sexual misconduct declaration as soon as possible. Make sure you complete all sections and attach your electronic signature."

Thank you so much for sharing this. Did anyone who applied for the Language & Rhetoric track get a similar email?
