    Hey guys,
Just you know there's a book I got awhile back called: "The Insiders Guide to Graduate Degrees in Creative Writing." published in 2018 by Seth Abramson. If I had found this forum sooner I would have recommended it sooner! Its a reference like anything else, but it holds better information than from 2012! You can get it on Amazon.
    Here is the description:
"The Insider's Guide to Graduate Degrees in Creative Writing answers frequently asked questions on such topics as:

    · Application prerequisites
    · Program sizes and durations
    · Funding
    · Acceptance rates
    · Cost of living
    · Program curricula and demographics
    · Workshopping techniques
    · Student-faculty ratios
    · Residency options
    · Postgraduate fellowship placement
    · Postgraduate job placement
    · Programs' reputations and histories

The book also includes comprehensive and up-to-date hard data on the hundreds of terminal-degree graduate creative writing programs available throughout the US, UK, and internationally, making this an essential read for anyone planning to pursue a low- or full-residency graduate creative writing degree."
    ISBN: 978-1350000407

People waiting on Emerson, I emailed them to thank them for my prior inquiry and they emailed me back my app had been reviewed and I'm in. I think they may have a "rolling" system, so you may want to email them to query your status. Official decision and financing will come later this month. At least things are moving. NYU came out today (nyet, nein, no, not happening) and since the CORN(b)ELL tolled for me nor lolled the BROWN cow, and UMass declined my blandishments, I'm 2 for 4 so far and waiting now to hear back on 6. Really not sure if I want to go through this again next yr.

@Ydrl: You might enjoy this engaging podcast of Victoria Chang interviewing in-house literary publicist for Copper Canyon Press, Laura Buccieri, who continues to work as a poet and sounds like the loveliest person:
Host Victoria Chang and guest Laura Buccieri, Director of Publicity at Copper Canyon Press, discuss the life of a literary publicist: strategies for gaining reviews, managing author expectations, discovering the story of a book, the longevity of poetry, and Laura’s commitment that every book gets heard. You know, I felt that way about Florida State's rejection...COLD. Like it was nothing. But when I got rejected from Wyoming...it was the nicest and most personal rejection (a letter and an email), even encouraged me to apply again and waived the fee for next time. That might have taken someone an extra minute to type to me. But If I do this again, I'd apply to Wyoming again but never Florida State. All over a few lines and just being decent (and I HATE the cold). It's not like most of these people don't know what rejection feels like (they are all writers!). So I'm split, I I feel your frustration too, but also see Ydrl's point in that I don't want to wait forever either.

I don't write a sonnet a day but I know I'm a poet at heart.  I know that I am happiest when a poem can capture exactly, exactly, the tiny moment I had in my head.  And in a manner no other writing could for me.
This weekend a pal of mine from college read one of my poems (in my portfolio) at his sister's wedding for his reading/toast.  I didn't write that poem for her wedding...  I wrote it so it could just be.
Having that mean more to me than an acceptance, however, does not erase that these grad schools need to get their communication game together right the shit now, haha.

While we wait and REFRESH repeatedly, any advice on Zoom Meet and Greet meetings? I have one Friday afternoon. A get to know you with faculty and students already in the program, Q&A. (This is also a school I've heard no word on funding from-and don't think (?) anyone else has either).
In my current nervous state...Is this a test? Advice please...
Many thanks and big luck to everyone waiting.

Huge congratulations! You applied for like 15 schools, so I'm glad the extreme mental fortitude (And financial!) that took was rewarded in some way. You're a rockstar, great work!

Do you ever just wonder if your name is on a white board in a room somewhere and someone is holding the dry erase marker as the roundtable discusses your fate? Like the cap is off while the debate is going on and someone stands there waiting to draw that red line. Or is it yes and no stacks in massive piles on that table? HOW does it happen--this process about my future?
If they had a live stream...I'd be Netflixing that shit 24/7.
Do you guys have these kinds of thoughts too or am I just losing it staring at my email/phone and waiting?

Hey IWW applicants - A newly-posted IWW rejection in Results is accompanied by a note that states, "Not surprising, given their most recently declared direction." I'm not aware of this declaration - does anyone know where I might learn about it? I'm assuming I'll soon receive a rejection letter - just curious.

Just got accepted at the University of Idaho for poetry ahhhh!!!! I was notified back in February that I was waitlisted, but a spot opened for me yesterday! If you're on a waitlist somewhere, I'm sending you all the best thoughts! ❤️
I was rejected from WashU and UNC Greensboro, but still waiting on UVA, Northern Michigan, and Eastern Washington. I'm thinking UVA is a no and just waiting on a rejection notification, but unsure about the rest.

I see a lot of Sarah Lawrence acceptances on this thread... Congratulations to all of you! Because that's the case, I'm going to out myself and tell you I did the entirety of undergrad at SLC from 2008-2012. I love good ol' Sadie Lou (as us alums call it).
One of the reasons it's known for being a writing institution is because all students must do a ton of writing, even if the literary arts isn't a focus. There are numerous creative scholarly publications, and there's also a well-known, well-attended poetry festival every spring. I will say that undergraduate and graduate students don't interact very much. Most of the graduate classes are in Wrexham, which is a cool Tudor-style building on the edge of campus. The creative writing grads that I did meet as an undergrad were brilliant, diverse, and seemed happy; money didn't even come in conversations even though we were in school during the Great Recession. Yes, SLC is an expensive school, but they are very self-conscious about it and like to help every student the best they can. One of the reasons SLC is so costly is because it runs on the Oxford tutorial system with a low student-to-teacher ratio. This sets it apart from other liberal arts institutions.
A little about Bronxville... it's a quiet, upper-class Westchester town with not much to do. If I were you, don't live there. Live in the city! If you want to get technical about it, SLC is in Yonkers. You can take a 50min local train ride or a 35min express train from Grand Central in Manhattan (or an even shorter one from 125th St in East Harlem) to either the Fleetwood or Bronxville stations. I can't emphasize enough how easy it is to get to and from the city, and most professors commute via the Metro-North.
Overall, suppose you like your offer and are leaning towards Sarah Lawrence. In that case, you won't be disappointed with their prestigious faculty, proximity to New York City, appreciation for the literary arts, and reputation.
    Hope this helps.
