If there are any admits to the Harvard Chan Population Health Sciences PhD who want to chat with a current student, DM me. Full disclosure, I really love my program (I'm in epi). But, I know I had questions about the PhD programs I applied to that I wasn't comfortable asking faculty about, so I am happy to give you candid nitty-gritty answers.

    Congrats.

To those who didn't recieve an acceptance: I hope you all get accepted to wonderful, funded programs this year, but don't give up if things don't pan out. I applied to PhD programs twice. I have faith we each end up on the path we need to be on.

Wonderfully said! Do you think all of the decisions have been made? My co-worker said that in her interview the Ad com member told her that she would her by 2/15..... do you think that is when rejects will be sent?

I applied to a mixture of Global and Services/Policy (LK, RM, JB)- my research interests overlap in both and from the informational I attended they said the department likes collaborative work between the faculty

That is very exciting! I applied to the program as well, and applied to RJ and RM. I haven't heard from the department just yet. I have googled some of the current students (both MHS and PHD) to see if they had linkedin/ researchgate pages (lol.......I thought it may be informative to know their stats....some of them had several publications before being admitted.... which makes me nervous)

GOOD LUCK..... HOPEFULLY WE ALL GET IN SOON!

Hello! First time posting here- had an initial interview scheduled with JHU's Mental Health PhD

I know a few people were asking so wanted to put this info out there- the faculty I interviewed with said they should be meeting in the next week or two to discuss who they are extending secondary interviews to.  (Also with JHU rejecting my Mental Health masters application back in 2017 this has been a good confidence booster- don't lose hope!)

Full circle moment! Which faculty did you apply to? training grant?

I think it may differ by department? I also see that no interview is required in PHS's FAQ, but in the Epi department's FAQ it says that "Not for the masters programs, but there are phone and Skype interviews for top ranked PhD applicants."

Guys, I know this has been briefly discussed before, but does Harvard Population Health Sciences require interviews or not? The wait, lack of transparency, and lack of response from the school about their protocol is frustrating. In their FAQs, it states no interview is required, but in this thread, I've seen multiple individuals receive interviews. Any insight would be much appreciated.

    As per their FAQ:

Is the admission based on some entry test and/or interview or is done on the basis of the academic history?

Applications are reviewed on the basis of academic credentials, GPA, GRE, TOEFL, prior research and work experience, statement of purpose, recommendations and a writing sample. No other entry test or interview is required.

Hi @DarkPassenger  , I think they intentionally use vague language. If they make it seem like the interview is "optional", then there isn't the same pressure to conduct a formal interview weekend or event (which totally sucks). I think to @lattemuwood's point, each department varies in method. From my internet stalking (lol), it seems like the decisions are heavily committee based, making the interview process a little more fluid vs. other programs where students apply directly to an advisor, and are funding based on that advisor's grant funding. I do wish there was more communication in the process. I watched a PHS open house video and they provided the breakdown of # of students admitted by department. I think of the ~42 admitted : 14 are EPI, 8 are SBS, 5 nutrition, 8 Global, 7 EH........ I think @bstat95 mentioned results going out by the middle Feb...... *fingers crossed*

I have a feeling that at least for SBS, students would need interviews for admission. The second POI I emailed knew that I had a zoom with the first POI so she said she didn't have much to add. She said if my application moves to the interview stage of the review processes, she would probably be one of my interviewers. I think this indicated that all students would need to get into the interview round. Well I have not heard from them so I am assuming I didn't get into the next stage.

Thank you for the heads up! I'm starting to feel the same way :(

    Hi,

Thanks for the update and congratulations for the interviews at UCSF. Best wishes for you. I applied for UW and Harvard SBS and Duke too. Would you mind sharing initials if you contacted any professors at Harvard SBS prior to applications? either by email or had a meetings?

A co worker of mine applied to SBS as well, and she applied to HT and KK. I don't think she has heard from anyone just yet. I don't think she met with them for any pre-interviews...... I applied to EPI and am still waiting as well. Who did you apply to?

  7. Hi everyone!

I'm happy I stumbled across this forum! I'm currently a grad student at a top 5 institution and have a background in clinical research. I've applied to about 7 PhD programs (scattered throughout the country), and am getting a bit anxious waiting for the results.

If someone is interviewed how likely are they to get admitted? Can a phone interview a formal interview?
