  1. I can’t thank you enough for this insider perspective. The point you raise about the environment is extremely important to me. My last 4 years in university have involved a very high quality of life (I’ve already been a grad student as well), so it is important for me to keep that.
  2. Thank you immensely!! I really appreciate you taking your time to share this with me I’m definitely not going to disregard this advice in my future decision.
  3. Thank you I really appreciate everyone’s insights and I’ll certainly take them into account if USC v Chicago end up as my final decision! To be completely transparent - I don’t have any fixed plans to stay in the US long-term (partner is European) or necessarily pursue the tenure track. I have decided to pursue a US PhD in the first place given its overall strength and career flexibility on an international scale, so that’s why I was prioritizing fit over prestige. But like I said, I WILL take into account your insights.
  4. Thank you, I appreciate you insight One of the main reasons is really fit, and for me that matters most right now. Would you say prestige is more valuable than fit generally? I’m genuinely curious since you’re already in the process of doing your PhD.
  5. This is a wonderful perspective. Thank you for sharing it. I’ll be sure to take it with me throughout life in whatever I do.
  6. Actually, I prefer USC over Chicago (controversial, I’m sure haha, but it’s for a few reasons). Depending on the remaining ones, I think I’ll actually be confirming USC in the end. I do hope one of you on the forum here can get my place at Chicago
  7. Thank you!! Hahaha I’d love their response Thank you so much! Very happy, always good to have that validation during these challenging times.
  8. It is for the PhD. I read the email early this morning but it came in sometime last night
  9. Honestly, I’m just waiting for a couple more decisions so that this can be officially over (I know I won’t choose any EU option over the US). Depending on how the rest of US decisions go, I already know where I’d like to confirm my spot. So it’s really frustrating just waiting and waiting, and I’m sure a lot of you feel this way. I just want to see the end in sight.
  10. Thanks a lot!! I’m actually really happy about it. It’s one of my personal preferences despite what some people might think. I’ll definitely keep you in mind
  11. I don’t know what’s going on in your life to make you like this, but I’m quite happy with mine. I’ll certainly stay on this forum to remind people not to listen to the likes of you
  12. It’s really easy to miss things, especially in brackets. There’s really no need to be so snarky to people. Everyone is stressed and anxious. Give people a break. e.g. I had to edit this because I missed out a preposition.
  13. Good luck with your thesis. Try, but don’t count on it or take it for granted. I got rejected by my alma mater despite being the second highest performer of my year etc. ?
  14. Fully relating to you right now. Do whatever you need to do for yourself
  15. Congratulations to everyone who got happy news today!! To those who haven’t and are still waiting, just remember it’s not over until the very last decision comes in. So please don’t lose all of your hope and positivity. Just keep carrying on with your lives as normally as you can until the cycle is over! It’ll definitely help with your well-being.
  16. Wholeheartedly agree. If anything, this cycle should show admissions committees that the GRE is of little, if any, value.
  17. It really is pointless to speculate the figures for this year. It’s completely unprecedented so we really can’t draw any solid inferences even using data from previous years. For instance, Georgetown’s rate has allegedly dropped to 1% (according to the information received by a poster on here).
  18. Ugh. I’m so sorry you’re still waiting. I personally feel better getting rejections than being stuck with no answer. This isn’t uncommon either for BU. They don’t have the best reputation for being timely. Not hearing could mean you might be waitlisted (this happened last year to someone I know and she got her offer in April, of course I’m not saying this is 100% the case). Wishing you luck!!
  19. Not on this forum, but they did respond in the results section. It could very likely be real, it was informal after all.
  20. Thank you! I thought I had a really good fit with one particular professor but not too disappointed. Ever grateful to have USC as an option because it is one of my preferences!
