  1. Hi, I'm going there! (If we haven't met already haha) Thank you so much to you guys for being supportive. I committed to Miami today!
  2. Just catching up with messages and noticed this. CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  3. Yep, Miami haha. Same same. I am so glad it won't be a rejection. Rooting for us and hoping we'd be in the same cohort!
  4. @nicolette7766 (forgot to quote, so I'm just tagging) Yess! I had the same feeling. I felt like my interview was quite short too, but maybe that was enough? They do seem very nice and I hope we both get in. (If it's the same place) they did mention they'll either accept or waitlist, so that's nice!
  5. Omg, me too. I feel like we interviewed for the same place. I don't have a great feeling about my interview? Felt like I was too anxious and my anxiety was clear in the way I responded. I'm interested in hearing others' thoughts too.
  6. I think Cornell fiction is starting—just saw an acceptance on Draft.
  7. Yep got the email for the University of Miami interview too! I went through the Draft groups from last two years. Can't see any mentions of an interview. So I guess this might be a new thing? I could be wrong. Either way, congrats to everyone and good luck! Rooting for us.
  8. (oops, it looks like a bunch of messages didn't load for me until I sent this message. this is regarding genre fiction / trashy novels) A few of my classmates used to write erotica and romance like that. They get paid very little (USD 10 for 2k words? and they have to finish 2k words or more per day I think). They receive the storylines in advance and have to use 'western' character descriptions, names, and settings (this is in an Asian country btw). My friends don't like the writing they do, but they need the money and have very short deadlines so they just do the bare minimum. I guess that's also the kind of stories I was referring to. Completely agree that romance novels and other genre texts have their own standards and should not be looked down on. I think some people look down on them because the books sometimes employ certain kinds of characters, plots, and tropes (and this is not all genre fiction of course). But, from my understanding, the way every book employs elements like these in a plausible but fresh way is what makes the books enjoyable to their audience.
  9. I'm totally going to write some 'trashy' novels. I kind of like romance novels and sitcoms where things end nicely every time and I don't need to think too much. Has anyone else not yet heard from FSU? Looks like they sent a lot of rejections yesterday. I still haven't heard from them and am wondering if I should contact them.
  10. Looks like a Cornell poetry acceptance has gone out. Also, someone got a call from NYU with a fully funded offer (Poetry). These are results I saw on Draft. Not my results : )
  11. It does feel that way! Hope everyone waiting for results hears good news soon ~
  12. Eek, I hadn't posted here in a while, but I managed to get into University of Nevada, Reno and Oklahoma State I'm so, so excited. This is far beyond what I'd expected haha. I guess these two were just the places where I felt like my writing would fit. I still am waiting to hear from other programs. But so happy to have gotten this far. I'd lost hope after last year.
  13. It is! But they did send the acceptances in early Feb last time (saw on Draft and in the results page).
  14. I'm applying to fiction! I love this two-step process. I wish more places followed this. Definitely saved me some app fees last time when I wasn't quite ready haha. I was able to submit a critical sample only because I was already prepping for my MA app.
  15. Hi everyone! I don't know if you remember me, but I'm applying for the second time this year. Wrote new samples, workshopped them a million times, and am hoping they are stronger this year (I did get sent to stage 2 for UTK and OleMiss unlike last year, so yay?). But I am trying not to lose the joy I find in writing by placing all my self-worth and attention on this. So I am also applying to an MA program in communication with a professor whose work I admire (Hopefully this program is less competitive?) So either way is an adventure! I can move on with my life if things don't work out and try again after a few years if I still feel like I need this experience. I hope you are doing well and irrespective of whether we all make it into programs or not, I hope that we end up in better places at the end of this season.
  16. Hi everyone! I am currently applying to a masters program in communication. I have a BA in English language, literature, and creative writing (from the UK) where I took classes in sociolinguistics, particularly discourse analysis, language, gender, and sexuality. I developed an interest in understanding how queer, heterosexual, and nationalist identities are produced in online media through my papers and projects in class and didn't want to focus on just the linguistic aspect. I have found a program with faculty who work in areas I'm interested in. I wanted to ask if any of you have shifted from a different field to communication and if you have any pointers on how to prepare and present myself in my application. Thank you so much!
  17. Ahhh thank you so much! Yep, that was me. I'm so glad for some good news after how difficult this year has been!
  18. Thank you so much!! Really hope so! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you too ?
  19. Just woke up to an update on my Notre Dame portal. I was wait listed! So, so happy. I doubt I'll get off the wait list, but I'm a bit relieved since almost every other place has rejected me. In case I don't get in, I'll likely be applying again in a year or two!
  20. I've been lurking here for a while and I thought I'd say hi! I've applied to fiction and so far had two rejections (Ohio State and Ole Miss--but neither of these were my first choices). I'm not particularly optimistic at this point to be honest. But I've tried to tell myself that what will happen will happen, and we should be fine no matter what. I'm also an international applicant from India!
