I have heard of this and I encourage anyone who receives CGS-M to contact the program if you were previously rejected from the admission committee. I've personally heard of a few cases where they did end up taking the applicant.
    Good luck!

That's correct. Last year I was rejected from the schools I applied to and was still offered CGS-M SSHRC (even after I was rejected)

I believe you can still technically win a CGS-M even if you were rejected from that school. Program admissions and CGS-M awards are decided independently. I've heard of cases where people got a CGS-M for a school they were not admitted in to!

I think it cannot hurt, they may not have anything for you but also may know of some projects looking for RA work - and volunteer RA is even better if its something you can do to get your foot in the door and start to form relationships within other labs while also gaining more experience! I think for a lot of the summer studentships, the applications have been long since processed and approved, so finding funding may be difficult - but volunteers are a whole other category, I think its a great idea!

So I am thinking about cold-emailing profs for research opportunities for this upcoming year and I am wanting to check in with one, however they mentioned to me earlier when I was inquiring about graduate student supervision that they will be on sabbatical in 2021. Is it worth maybe just briefly following up anyways to see if they might have something, or know of someone who does? Again, this is just for RA work/volunteering, not for graduate student supervision in 2021.

Hi! I went to Mac too, however I studied arts & science, not PNB. This is really surprising to me, especially because several of the courses that we're recommended to take for clinical are only offered in the PNB department (such as history of psych). I know several people In artsci who combined (majored) in PNB and have gotten into clinical programs such as McGill and Queens, but I'm not sure about Ottawa. I agree with the above poster, this was probably just a fluke. Best of luck!

Hi! I actually was in the PNB program as well and this is my second year of rejections. I’m wondering if that had anything to do with it. I also applied to Ottawa and didn’t get in. Maybe this is a bigger discussion to bring up somehow, but maybe it’s just a fluke.

Hey I also did my undergrad in PNB at McMaster, and I haven't encountered this problem. Although I suspect it might have to do with how UOttawa looks at your courses etc. I have applied to other schools this cycle and I hope it won't be a problem for them. Fingers crossed. Good luck to you with everything !

    Hi there, good question!
I think an ineligible status at this point means either that you turned town an admission offer from that school or that you were not offered admission to that school. This is just because admission at the school is a requirement to hold an award there, and some schools seem to update that before the official results from CGS-M come out! I saw the same ineligible status with McMaster after I turned down an offer.
    Hope this helps!

    Hey everyone!

I hopped on to share some great news: I GOT AN OFFER FROM MY DREAM PROGRAM!
    School: University of Toronto, OISE
Type: MA in School and Clinical Child Psychology
    Acceptance/Waitlist/Rejection: Acceptance
Type of Notification: Email from assigned Faculty Advisor, who gave unofficial offer; Email from Department to check SGS portal for decision, where two documents were uploaded (official offer letter and funding information)
    Date Notified: March 24, 2021; March 25, 2021
    DM for POI: Sure thing!

Thank you all for being so supportive to one another. I hope everyone gets accepted into the school of their dreams when the time is right for them.

Some quick facts about my application
My GPA wasn't so great but I hope that offers some hope for people applying! I also didn't major in psychology but had enough courses to be treated as equal. I did better in my last year but honestly it wasn't that competitive. I did, however, have many publications and conference presentations/posters. I work at two different hospitals and a lab at UofT. My three references were all professors with two of them being child and adolescent clinicians: a psychiatrist and psychologist. I think it was my referees, letter of intent, and CV that made up for my marks

congratulations on both acceptances - that's really amazing! i completely understand how you're feeling as i was in your shoes this cycle too. i wasn't even sure i'd receive any acceptances let alone have to turn one down. what you have is totally okay in my opinion, it shows your interest and that you'd like to stay in contact. it's also good that you're keeping it relatively brief :))
i wrote a little bit more in my email bc i was genuinely so torn and really felt like i got to know that supervisor during the interview process. i did inform them what program i would be attending and a quick why, and i also mentioned that i hoped to stay in touch and potentially work together in the future. again, what you've written is concise and genuine, and faculty are used to this happening (it's such a competitive field and the norm is to apply to several places), so if they were willing to extend an offer to work with you, i'm sure they would be happy to keep in touch. keep in mind that faculty want what is best for you, and sometimes that means attending a different program!

hiiii all, v random but please message me if you'd like to chat about starting a program in the fall, moving (?!?!), the frustration of applying multiple times, anything you want, but /especially/ imposter syndrome ? i wanted to put it out there since this is such a competitive program where it may seem that the odds are stacked against us, and it's so so easy to let setbacks make us forget how capable and deserving we are. i'm definitely feeling this way even as i start a new and super exciting chapter of my life, and i'm sending love to anyone else that is too ❤️

Hey it is great you are starting early
I would say it depends on your professor and references how they will respond to being asked so early on. I am sure they will ask to be reminded closer to the deadline but will likely give you a response immediately about they feel about their suitability to write you a letter.

I believe because the schools you listed a all CPA accredited they have to publish a table with statistics about their acceptance rates and such on their website. I haven’t applied to any of those schools so I wouldn’t be able to direct you the tables as readily as someone else who maybe applied. Maybe they can comment on your post and give you a more direct and immediate answer.

Hi everyone! I just came across this site and have been browsing this forum in preparation for my clinical psyc applications - I'm currently in 4th year at Queen's and taking a year off before applying. I have a few questions if anyone is able to help me!
    1. How do you go about asking potential referees for academic references that will be needed not for fall 2021, but for fall 2022? What if they forget or do not want to promise a reference for so long from now?
    2. What is the acceptance rate like for the clinical psyc programs at UofT, Ryerson, and York?

I haven't heard anything yet, and based on the results page it seems that other people haven't heard yet (like those who were on the waitlist). I do not know about asking for your position on the waitlist, it seems like if they wanted to let people know where they were on the waitlist they would have done so already. But we can maybe ask if the second round of offers have been extended already? That would give us an idea of what has been done.

I also wanted to mention when I contacted them about GRE requirements for the next application cycle, they told me (on March 10th) that only the first round of offers had gone out, and that offers may be extended until April 15th. So it seems that they are taking sometime and may not send out offers until the end of March or early April as mentioned in the last mass email to the waitlisted candidates.

Oh so I woke up super early at 6am MT just to check results (2 yrs ago now?). The portal crashed in the morning LOL given too many users were trying to logon so I went back to sleep and was able to check/log on in the afternoon haha. So not sure waking up early to check results is helpful haha

Hi, has anyone heard back from lakehead? I remember someone posting saying that first round offers are delayed a bit, so I'm curious if they have gone out yet

also, for anyone on a waitlist, do you think it is okay to email and ask what your position on the waitlist is?

Hi everyone! I just accepted my offer to start the Clinical Psychology graduate program at UBC-Vancouver in the Fall. I turned down an offer from UNB today and really hope this opens a spot for someone in here on the waitlist! It was a super difficult decision but I'm so so excited.
Anyone else in here going to UBC next year for Clinical in Van? Would love to start a groupchat or something ❤️  I'm from NS so will be very excited to make new friends!
