Thank you, I was a bit hesitant about reaching out to them but I'll definitely do that now! I'm trying to plan, so knowing sooner rather than later either way is ideal. I agree, it feels quite rude to me to not have communicated anything at all essentially two weeks before the deadline. I understand programs are very busy and get many applications, but to me it really reflects on the school itself in some ways if they don't say anything at all! Especially since these decisions involve committing ourselves to a school for 2-7 years and applications are very expensive and time consuming to complete. I can't imagine a general 'we are working on decisions still, please be patient' email to everyone on a 'waitlist' would be that difficult to send? Or just any kind of acknowledgement that they are working on the apps? Idk. It's been extremely frustrating, so I completely agree!

Hi! I was just generally wondering if anyone has heard from Tulane Classical Studies MA? I've had radio silence and have yet to see anything on the results board. I wouldn't be worried but it seems typically they send responses by the end of February...it just seems a bit odd!

I also found, at least from what I was told by faculty at several MA programs (including Brandeis and Columbia Classical Studies) that even though many of the requirements could be done in a year, they prefer that students take two years - and either remit tuition the second year, or make it a very low number, or have students do the program 'part time' so they can ultimately take more classes over the entire degree (As in, full time would be 4 courses a semester over a year and part time is 3 classes a semester over two years...something like that. Then you get 12 courses instead of 8). So it is worth contacting professors at programs you are interested in to ask how the typical structure works with timing and with tuition! Every program is different so take my experience with a grain of salt.

Oh gosh that would definitely stress me out as well!!! That sucks. COVID has really slowed down museums/grad schools/just opportunities all around. Don't give up hope yet, you never know - the wait is the hardest part. ? Plus it helps me so much to know everyone else is stuck in the waiting limbo as well, that way we can all commiserate together!

I totally feel you! I think I've applied to most of the spring/summer/fall internships for the last 2/3 years (sometimes skipping a season or two) and I've only once made it to a finalist round and no further, so I'm anticipating a very solid rejection come mid April per usual. I'm still anxiously hoping though...I really hope you hear good news, it sucks that they might be considering international students less this year! What a brutal time for museums all around

No update to report, but my name has also been replaced with my email address. Everything else looks the same though!

Just bumping this to see if anyone has heard anything! I feel like I've heard (in past years) they usually do interviews sometime in March? Does it seem like that is still the case this year?

Every time I think I've accepted it and start think about having to move on or create a concrete back up plan I end up feeling so ick about everything! I think all-rejections is hard to stomach during a normal application season, and feels almost impossible this year because there isn't that much to distract me or to look forward to. Trying to hold on to the possibility of doing another MA (funded this time around) or maybe finding a relevant job...or maybe just applying again next year. No matter what, this has been such a stressful time for everyone!

Ahhh gotcha makes sense. Thanks for letting me know, that really helps. I wish schools were faster in following up then, it’s frustrating to be held in rejection limbo for weeks on end ??. Welp as soon as they and CU send my formal rejects I’m out for this round! I’m with @ClassicsCandidate, feeling very discouraged all around this year.

Amazing! Have you heard anything from U of T either? It's been complete radio silence for me since I talked to my POIs in the fall. I'm not a Canadian student so I think that could pose a problem with admissions/funding!
-
Oh awesome! My specialization is Roman art so I had two POIs for ancient. Wbu?
-
Agreed, it is very strange! That could be it? If your interview was good I doubt there would be any other reason. What I've learned this year is that AdComs work in incomprehensible ways...particularly with COVID. I've also been generally wondering what specializations Columbia admitted this year because if they only took 5 they are excluding so many different areas and time periods! LOVE the concept of declining Columbia. I did two years ago for one of their MA programs and it felt great. PhD this time! I applied to two other MAs (in Classics) and am only waiting on Columbia and Toronto Art History for PhDs. This seems to confirm that they've both sent acceptances/rejections are on the way so I'm going to start crossing my finger for the MAs and MA funding! Best of luck, I'm hoping you hear good news!
-
Oh wow, I'm so sorry! That's so bizarre...I bet they are waiting to send the mass rejections to the rest of us until later. I'm surprised they rejected people who interviewed, I would have thought they picked the waitlist from there! That's really rough. I'm disappointed, but I think deep down I know that I'd be a better fit in another Columbia program not taking students this year. Still, a hard pill to swallow regardless! EDIT: Saw your edit just now! Good to know I can lay it to rest. I still want the official rejection so I can move on with my day to day life but that helps quite a bit.
-
Beyond acceptances for Columbia (congrats!) has anyone received a rejection or waitlist at this point? The board shows they usually send the rejections quite late in March...closure would be nice!
-
True! I’m trying to not keep my hopes up because this cycle has been so unequivocally filled with bad news ?? but it’s always possible.
